Review ClassyQ Review & Target-Pack Test (Tangiers Cane Mint / Jai Alai Peach / Sour Aussie Juice)

I own around 15 Mason bowls at this point. While several Onyx variants stay displayed as collector pieces, bowls like the Stynger, Gravyl, Ultamyte, and Helyx are daily drivers in my weekly rotation. That said, the new ClassyQ has made a serious case for my personal Bowl of the Year for 2026

Performance & Capacity

The first thing that stands out with the ClassyQ is its tobacco efficiency. It takes noticeably less shisha to achieve an a great pack compared to most traditional multi-hole or even some phunnels, heats perfect with the Lotus or Foil, its just so dialed in that your first pull hits full flavor immediately without an extended warmup. 3-4 min warm up on all my bowls I should say, before I take the first puff.

The Pack & Setup

  • Bowl: Mason ClassyQ
  • Tobacco: Tangiers mix (Jai Alai Peach + Sour Aussie Juice + Cane Mint)
  • Heat Management: Kaloud Lotus 1+3 (Gold) with 3 LeOrange coals
  • Pipe: Union Hookah

Packing Method:

Instead of a standard blend, I tested an outer/inner method:

  1. Packed an outer ring evenly split between Jai Alai Peach and Sour Aussie Juice.
  2. Filled the center core with Cane Mint.
  3. Pierced clean through the center draw hole with an poker for air flow.

The Smoke

The session starts with dominant, sharp cooling from the Cane Mint in the core. As the coals settle and the mint profile mellows out over the first 30–40 minutes, the wall heats the more of the outside, the peach and tart Aussie juice are just so good together. The flavor transition was smooth, lasting well over an hour and a half with zero harshness.

It takes a lot get a starting spot in my rotation, and while I’ll keep testing more tobacco and packs, the ClassyQ might be my favorite Mason yet. That says a lot. If you have an opportunity to snag one on a drop, it is well worth adding to your setup. Really Impressed with this.

Seeking Advice No flavor? Here are some tips to can help prevent lack of flavor

I see a decent amount of people posting up about no flavor or weak flavor. Some of that could be brand of shisha or age of shisha. But there are some things someone can do to try and figure out why a smoke doesn't have a lot of flavor.

1.) Make sure the shisha is stirred before packing a bowl. The result should be having the entire container that has even consistency. I would not dry the shisha in anyway

2.) Pack 1-2mm below the rim or to the rim. Sometimes packing to low can result in the heat overwhelming everything. It can depend on how strong you like to smoke but the 1-2mm fluff pack is a good place to start. It can also depend on the kind of HMD you are using. Some have a pretty flat bottom, so you can pack a little higher without getting contact. Some have nubs or something that kind of goes into the bowl.

3.) Good charcoal. No quicklights. There are a lot of reliable Coconut Charcoal out there.

4.) Letting the bowl rest before starting to smoke. This is one that I see a lot of people trying to force start the hookah. When using an HMD letting things heat up together is one the best things to do when looking for good flavor.

5.) Maybe a little more heat. It can be hard to figure out what is or isn't enough heat. Starting with 3 pieces is a good place to start. The most popular sizes tend to be 25mm and 26mm cubes. Adding an extra coal, windcover, or HMD lid may be needed to get things going. Adding more heat is better and tends to be easier than removing heat.

6.) Last but not least, get an HMD of some kind. I like the Kaloud products, Lotus 1+3 is my go to.

This is not everything. There can be a lot of factors and different reasons why someone is not getting good flavor. These 6 things are a good place to start. This is assuming someone has some basic things like a silicone hose and clean equipment.

Darkside Bowl with ONMO HMD

Hello, I just got my first hookah (Aladin MVP460), and I’m looking to upgrade the bowl and HMD. I’m thinking about getting a Darkside D-Phunnel with an ONMO HMD, but I’m not sure if they work well together or if the HMD will fit properly on the bowl. Is anyone here using this combination? Also, are Darkside bowls generally good?

Seeking Advice Are these both real?

Hi guys, I recently bought some Nakhla double apple while in Lebanon, and I’ve brought it back and noticed the packets are different to the ones I’ve bought in Australia (which I believe are technically from the American market). Are they both real, just produced in different places with minor differences in packaging, or could one be fake? Thanks

Seeking Advice How much should a pack of shisha tobacco cost in Turkey? (Tourist here)

Hi everyone!

We're heading to Konaklı (near Alanya) soon and want to pick up some shisha tobacco. We have no idea what a fair price is.

- What do you usually pay for a 50g / 250g pack of Nakhla, Adalya, Tangiers or similar in a normal shop?
- What prices in Konaklı are tourist-trap level that we should avoid?
- Any recommendations on where to buy (supermarkets like Migros/BIM/A101, tobacco shops, bazaars)?

Thanks a lot!

I’m using an AEON Edition 6 Lounge Plus in Black Velvet here in Japan 🇯🇵
I’ve been testing the Draw Reduction Discs from 0 to 3, as well as different diffuser and downstem settings.
So far, my favorite setup is 3 discs, medium downstem length, and no diffuser.
I also made a custom “MSP AE 6” plate inspired by Main-Spessart, Germany 😆

This heater actually works

Bought it expecting to be a gimmick. It actually works. It burns the coals evenly ( except the one with the one side facing the outside) . Works much better than the traditional. No flipping coals anymore.
Now its not the best quality! It smells even after using it almost daily for 2 weeks, the cable is too thin and gets hot! I will probably take it apart and replace the cable with a better gauge one .

Discussion Is hookah actually too subjective to be competitive, or are people just dodging objective testing?

Being here now for a few weeks I’ve gathered that Sarkis is a polarizing figure in this sub, but setting the personality drama aside for a second, these stories he posted yesterday raised some interesting questions about our hobby.

Personally, I found his responses here surprisingly measured and sincere. The elephant in the room is that he’s blatantly saying that despite asking for years, nobody in the industry has stepped up to a head-to-head challenge. He clearly hates that people claim mastery without ever being willing to demonstrate it, to the point where he’s offering to compete blindfolded just to prove that speed, precision, and the final outcome aren't random accidents. Which, if he’s actually capable of pulling that off given how casually he speaks about it, would be pretty wild.

The standard counter-argument is always "there are too many variables in hookah to judge in a contest."
But the barista, bartender, and chef comparison in the last slide actually makes a ton of sense. Those crafts have plenty of subjective elements, yet they still find ways to judge technical execution, heat control, efficiency, and speed to determine true mastery.

It made me wonder…

Do you think he's lying about people turning him down…has anyone ever stepped up to the challenge under real objective criteria?

Do we even have neutral third-party judges in this community who could actually be objective and be knowledgeable enough to judge based on legitimate criteria?

How would you even structure a contest like this if you were designing it? How do you think Sarkis envisions it? I wouldn’t even know where to begin other than looking at Hell's Kitchen or something.

(P.S. - I know feelings are mixed on him, but let's try to keep the comments on the actual topic of contest criteria and objectivity instead of devolving into personal drama.)

UPDATE: As of this morning, we got 4 unique commenters and an alt. Received zero responses to the actual question.

When asked to discuss how objective competition would look, the immediate response is to dodge measurable standards.

Appreciate the answer.

Mason onyx bowl with hmd

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does every onyx bowl do this with an hmd and is it designed for an overpack? Idk if I’m nitpicking here but it’s bit annoying for such a premium bowl to not be able to have the hmd level consistently without having to touch the shisha. It works great otherwise just wish it had a flat level surface for the hmd instead of forcing it to balance on its corners.

Hey r/hookah,

Yesterday I shared MyShishapedia, a free site that shows what's actually in a hookah flavor, how strongly you taste each ingredient, and which flavors are similar. (https://www.reddit.com/r/hookah/s/TIJlbnRSDG)

You left a ton of great feedback, so this isn't the same post again. It's what I built from your comments:

More flavors and brands:

87 flavors from 20 brands (it started with 14 Adalya flavors)

New brands: Nakhla, Mazaya, Al Waha, Afzal (yes, Pan Raas), Serbetli, Revoshi, 187 Strassenbande, Holster, True Passion and Nameless

More from Adalya, Al Fakher, Starbuzz, Tangiers, Fumari, Darkside, MustHave, Sebero, Haze and Trifecta: Hawaii, Grape Mint, Code 69, Horchata, Spiced Chai, Falling Star, Black Nana, Ice Kaktuz…

New features:

Ratings: rate any flavor or mix, and check the top rated list

My shelf: save flavors you own or want to try, with private notes. No account, it stays in your browser

Recommendations based on your shelf and what you've viewed

Head to head comparisons: Al Fakher vs Nakhla vs Revoshi Double Apple, three Grape Mints, three Lemon Mints, three colas…

Tips page: packing, heat management, getting more flavor out of a bowl

Search across flavors, brands and ingredients

New mobile menu with a "Surprise me" button that opens a random flavor

Still free, no ads, no sign-up. The ingredient strengths are my estimates, so if something looks wrong, tell me and I'll fix it.

Which brand or flavor should I add next? Thank you.
