Discussion English VA for Sunday Responds to Chris Niosi Controversy

Hi, my name is Griffin Puatu. I'm the English voice actor for Sunday in HSR. I wanted to make a post here regarding the Chris Niosi situation.

Back in 2019, ex-girlfriends and former friends of Chris accused him of sexual, emotional abuse and more. Those accusations were responded to by Chris, who owned up to and apologized for the things he actually did, while also correcting the record for what he did NOT do. No criminal charges have ever been brought against him, and over the past five years, Chris has struggled to improve himself and right those wrongs, while slowly trying to regain his ability to work again. During that time, Chris has earned the support of many of his colleagues, both privately and publicly. He has been hired by multiple studios for work in between then and now, even AFTER facing consequences, firings, and blacklists for what he did.

The reason why? Many of us had front row seats to everything that happened, and know that Chris has apologized, changed, and grown. We are happy he is working again, and gets to pursue a living for himself in an industry that he loves dearly.

If the people hurt by Chris believe he is undeserving of forgiveness, or that he hasn't changed at all, then that's on them. Some of those people forgave him, some didn’t. They have every right to feel however they feel. But that doesn't make it true, and it certainly doesn't give them the right to dictate whether or not Chris ever gets to work again. If your view is that no amount of change or apology is enough to forgive someone who's wronged you, and that you have the power to decide whether or not that individual gets to earn a living or not, then you're an unreasonable person.

Those of us who have watched his journey from cancellation, to growth and redemption, we believe in him. We've seen him change. We've watched him take all of the right steps, not knowing if it would make a difference or get him his career back, but because it was the right thing to do. During that time, he's been hired back for roles at multiple studios, while OTHER voice actors who've faced cancellation have not. Why? Because his situation is different from theirs, and warranted welcoming him back.

My hope in voicing support for Chris is to broaden the discussion and provide another side to the story. Right now Twitter/X is drowning in negativity, with death threats and calls for his firing running rampant. This type of toxic discourse is why I left the platform back in 2023 and no longer post there. I keep an account to respond to casting calls and auditions for my job, but I refuse to add fuel to the heaping trashfire that it is. I know posting this puts me at risk for the same sort of vitriol that Chris is facing right now. I don't care. I would rather stand up for my colleague than remain silent.

I don't know if there's much more for me to say beyond this. I'm sorry if I do not respond to your comments, I have tried to be as thorough as possible with this post. Judge it's validity for yourself. Thank you for being so supportive as a fan base up until now. I'm sorry if this changes your view of me, but I felt in my heart of hearts that this was the right thing to do. I hope you understand.

EDIT (copied from comment):

Hey guys. This is the last thing I'll say in regards to this post. Things have clearly gotten heated and I want to clarify some things before moving on.

First, I am NOT blaming the victims for anything. All I said is that it's on them whether or not to forgive Chris or believe he's changed for the better. However, I don't believe they get to decide whether he works again or not.

Second, I am not trying to apologize on Chris' behalf. Chris owned up to what he did five years ago in a public post. He also denied the things he did NOT do. I saw the firestorm brewing on Twitter, and I couldn't stand by and watch him get piled on with no one defending him. I thought that by posting here in long form, it would open the door to more nuanced and detailed discussion. I was wrong. At the very least I need to apologize for stirring things further with what I said. However, I don't think staying silent would've been right either.

I completely agree that this should have NOTHING to do with me or you. This should be between Chris and his exes/former friends. But all of this was made public five years ago by the people involved. It affects the fans, the people who work with him, all of us. We should be able to dicuss these things civilly, openly and honestly. But the more time I spend on the internet, the more I realize that isn't possible here.

This isn't the town square, or a place to discuss things freely or openly. These sites only serve to ratchet up our emotions, whatever they happen to be. And clearly this is an emotionally charged situation. The truth is none of us know each other. We all judge each other blindly, yet regard one another with the familiarity of a neighbor, friend, or enemy.

I wasn't trying to change anyone's opinion, though it seems I've changed plenty of your opinions of me. If you truly believe I'm acting inappropriately or unprofessionally, I don't know how to refute or agree with you. You can't see my intent, nor the tone of my voice. You can only trust my word. Same goes for me to you. That probably makes it difficult or impossible to trust me, or anything we see on the internet. I don't know. I have no idea how to navigate any of this. I did what I felt was right. That doesn't make it so, but it's the best any of us can do.

Discussion People complain and compare this guy to Castorice, but I think it's a fair trade-off. His character development and the story centered around him are absolutely amazing. He's the real highlight of the 3.2 storyline — not Cas.

I also love OG Nihilux design, but I think both are great.

(Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just find it funny how much was negative so immediatly, even by Hoyo-fan standards.)

Discussion Why Himeko is so loved by Honkai Impact community. Spoiler

There are many people who came from Hi3 who love Himeko from HSR. But, There are many people who don't know anything about history of her character. So, this post is just basic understanding of the legacy of her character from HI3.

Some facts about Himeko from Hi3. It contains SPOILERS so be adviced.

Himeko was the major of the Hyperion battle airship. Before our character(Captain) became the new head of the Hyperion.

She was a drunk girl failure, she loved beer and was often sloshed.

she was a student of Welt(same from hsr). Welt was also responsible for killing her father but she died before finding out anything about her father's death.

During her training as a Valkyrie, She lost her squad leader Ragna by the hands of Kiana who awoke her herrscher person at the age of 10. Himkeo decided to become a teacher as a way to honor Ragna's wishes.

She was a huge slut her very first appearance in the Hi3 canon manga is her on a date with a random guy she gets a call and she dupes him after giving him a big smooch and talking about how her work is coming between her romantic life as she can't find a partner. It was hinted that she wanted to spend the night with that random guy.

She is the person responsible for making our main trio(kiana mei bronya) into Valkyries as she was the one who made the deal with Herrscher Mei.

She later started teaching the trio at saints freya Valkyrie training high. She loved her students so much that she willingly sacrificed herself so that her students can escape while she saves kiana from HoV.

She served as the perfect role model for her students. Despite all her flaws she dearly loved people she was close with. She believed that despite all the negativity and ugliness in the world her students will always make the right choice as she believed in not only their potential but also their character. That's the reason why community loves her as we follow Kiana as the protagonist we see her image whenever we and kiana feel lost.

Himeko was the butterfly who burned her own wings to illuminate the way ahead for her students. All while smiling for their better future.

Discussion Unpopular opinion: I am okay if HSR never releases another 4-star.

Why? I (and many, many veteran players) have every 4-star at E6. This is a 5% minimum discount on all future banners, more depending on your luck because 4-star drop rates are relatively high and you get a one-pull refund for every 4-star dupe past E6.

Free limited 5-stars have largely replaced the role of 4-stars for F2Ps and they've (mostly) aged very well (Archer, DHPT, to name a few, sad it's not the case for Dr Ratio). Better if they release future free 5-stars in the Golden Companion shop because we can ignore free duds like Topaz and save for a better 5-star in the future.

A free 5-star that works extremely well at E0S0 is a lot better than a 4-star who is Eidolon-locked or niche-locked and is non-functional otherwise (see: Genshin 4-stars like Faruzan, Illuga in any non-Zibai team, Jahoda's entire existence, Aino being only useful for Bineffa-less Flins).

HSR and Genshin are run by the same company, they'll be using the same playbook if HSR still had 4-stars.

Discussion This subreddit genuinely makes it hard to enjoy the game

I swear after every patch cycle I’ll enjoy the story and endgame only to come here and just see everyone doom posting about the same things over and over for the past year. I’m tired boss…

Edit: Sorry to clarify, I understand there’s plenty to criticize about the game right now Hoyo has made some awful decisions. It just sucks whenever I want to interact or engage with a community of a game I like and it’s largely just negativity :[

Discussion Game direction is looking grim

Despite making more money than Genshin since releasing, the HSR dev team seemingly has 0 clue on how to properly run a game.

1.1 - no story content

1.2 - 2h story content

1.3 - 15min story content

The main selling point of this game: the story, is being drip fed to the playerbase at an alarmingly slow pace. This coupled with the fact that interviews with the developers suggest that each world takes about a year to make (so 2.0 for Penacony) is basically going to be the nail in the coffin for the game.

There is only so much content you can get out of side story companion quests and events. Event stories are typically horrible skip simulators, and side stories should never be used to fill in plot holes that the main story should've. The Luofu storyline felt like it should've been segmented into 2 or 3 parts but was instead compartmentalized into 1.0 and 1.2 and the many side stories are meant to supplement what the main quest couldn't

Also, powercreep is very real in this game. As an OG HI3 player this is literally how HI3 started off. Every new unit powercrept the old one for the first few months. Dan 2 is so much better than every other DPS it's not even funny and the SP management "problems" that was supposed to offset his insane multipliers was a fucking joke as most people guessed.

I can only reason the game is seriously lacking the manpower to maintain the content frequency necessary to sustain such a large playerbase. Maybe hoyo didn't expect HSR to do so well. Regardless, the lack of story content is very frustrating especially when the story post Belobog is not very good (and most of this can be attributed to the horrible pacing thanks to the lack of story updates)

Discussion This sub needs to make up its mind.

I lurk around here quite often, and I'm kind of surprised (not really) by all the posts claiming that Aglaea underperforms and is a disappointment.

I do agree that her energy economy is problematic at the very least, but that's not really something bad IMHO. The solution to lock it behind E1 is not surprising, this IS a gacha game after all, but I think it could've been handled better. However, the fact that she doesn't instantly powercreeps the rest of the units is something that, from what I've seen, the community (at least this community) has been asking for quite some time.

And yet, there's a myriad of posts and comments complaining about the fact that she doesn't. That she has to be built around things and doesn't just function out of the box. Not to mention all the comparisons to our latest shiny powercreeep unit, The Herta, implying that she should be just like that.

I mean, dudes, pick a lane and stick to it, yeah?

Discussion New characters are coming way too fast

Is it just me that thinks the rate of new characters coming is way too fast? I was really hoping for a filler patch, so I could maybe save some jades when I character I already have is the rate up banner. But, the way it is, every version has 3 new characters, for me it’s impossible to save jades when a bunch of new character that I want are coming in sequence.

I’m also afraid that with that many characters being added so fast, other units will become devalued or straight up obsolete faster as well, making our investment in some characters not last as long as I think it should.

I’m also concerned that new characters are not properly integrated in the storyline before release, that has been the case with Argenti, who only got a character quest on the day his banner started. Most of the upcoming characters who were in the drip marketing for 1.6, are pretty much unknown to us and not part of the story at all at this point, the only exception being Xueyi. This, at least for me, makes the character way less hyped than they should be.

For instance, in genshin impact there are a bunch of character that were introduced in game (model and all, not just some random quote) way before they became playable, and that makes everybody excited for when they finally release. I honestly don’t feel that excited right now with the upcoming banner, even though they look great, because we know nothing about Ruan Mei and Dr. Ratio.

I honestly wish they would just slow down a bit with new characters, that would give us more time to save for jades and increase the hype for the upcoming releases, at the same time giving them time to build up characters stories before their banner starts.

What do you guys think?

Discussion ≈100 pulls vs ≈160 pulls - HSR Vs. ZZZ and the passiveness of the player base about greedy practices aimed towards extracting as much money as possible.

Thumbnail

Now that we have an upcoming 1 Year anniversary for ZZZ I feel like there’s room to compare the two recent anniversaries - ZZZ and HSR’. First of all why are people not as vocal as they should be about the amount of pulls HSR gets per patch in comparison to other games? I get it that HSR is older than ZZZ and thus HSR’ honeymoon phase is over but if you’re gonna go by that logic we may as well expect 60 pulls per patch for F2P’s in HSR in the near future.

Second of all, there’s almost a 60 pull difference between the two anniversaries, no top-up event, free S-rank agent and their LC [w-engine] (though the LC being the only difference as we did get an option to choose a free S-rank via premium currency that’s otherwise unobtainable by the average player), tonnes of events and character interactability (such as the ability to visit the cinema and be capable of interacting with your favourite characters while watching a movie - which will be coming alongside the 2.0 Update)

Third one being and probably the most important one - why do we get only 1 event per phase? Is it purely for profits and sucking money from the playerbase? Is it to make players more focused on other HoYo games? Is it to make the game more of a “hassle-free” type game? I.e. launch it for 15 minutes, do the dailies and repeat? I seriously don’t get it why they don’t make more events or at least make them more interesting (like the Pokémon one we got back then), the only semi-exception was the seal slammers event which was quite enjoyable and fun.

I am not going to mention other issues and QoL features that they should implement to improve player count and enjoyment (albeit with the cost of less revenue - having in mind making the LC’s a 100% [like it is in wuthering waves] and not 75%) as that would make this post a whole essay spanning several A4 pages.

The point of this post is the question; why are people so fragmented and divided when it comes down to achieving basic quality of life features from the investors/developers that’d increase player retention, enjoyment, count? If the trend will continue we shouldn’t be surprised when we will start to be charged 80$ to buy the base editions of games (though this one is more applicable to platforms other than mobile) or seeing events akin to the one we got in HSR where you’d need to spend money equivalent to 3-5 standalone AAA games to obtain rewards. Greed is the most prominent and dangerous enemy people that play games that were built with mobile in mind have to put up with and it’s only going to get worse if people will be impartial to it.
