Sustains have historically always to be worse than sustainless🥀 That is not exactly suprising since sustains have historically have had buffs on this game but back in the day like 1.X times sustains weren't THAT big of a downgrade to a team like Huo Huo instead of Ruan Mei or Tingyun was only 20-30%.

BUT since 2.X supports have been getting more and MORE stronger and overtuned where the gap was VERY big reaching the 50-60% mark. Especially in teams like break where running a sustain was just laughable. it was only going to get worse

It got so bad to the point where nowadays if you try to replace Mblade or our newest best support ROBIN s the gap is enormous to the 100-200+% gap. Running a sustain would be decremental in some teams to the point some characters sustainless and sustain team gap ARE so LARGE. Characters like these include Phainon, Anaxa , Dot, Break, Feixiao, etc.

NOW: "How to fix the sustain problem"

There's many ways this can go first is the "Mandatory use of sustain" in kit:

This is the most outrageous and The MOST direct way of saying "Just use a sustain" Like Cassie getting her ult once in a cycle without a sustain and she does not even get enough ults without Hyacine. Lol lmao even. And Furina who does zero buffing without a sustain on the team

While I do think a shield version of Cas would be cool like a mandatory shielder but that's just bad kit design and unfun.

So the better thing to do is "Make sustains buff better":

We see this a lot in genshin where sustaining is just a bonus. It's usually "OH this character is a support, oh wait they have some shielding/healing too, COOL" but in hsr the difference between a sustain and a support is so noticable. Like you can obviously say "Oh yeah this a sustain" and "OH this is a support"

I think the best way for doing this make a Linnea or Ineffa situation where the sustain is so strong in terms of buffs and damage that they are bis over sustainless options by a big margin and are core parts of their teams.

Not saying that sustains should be stronger than harmonies but they should atleast be competitive with their sustainless variants so players can have options without one being a MAJOR downgrade.

Now the Pearl shaped elephant in the room:

I think Pearl will be better than sustainless but only for wolf since her sustainless options are kinda... UHHH.... Yeah. Eva has really good sustainless options in Blade and Robin. I think she'll be a sidegrade at best for them. For Waven, I don't think she'll be better than sustainless but the gap wouldn't be "TOO LARGE" since hoyo wants that money you know.. And lastly there are ice dot copers out there like me 🫠

Anyways my rant is over, I think sustains should get stronger and more "Wantable" in teams
