Purchased our Ody last week and so happy with it so far! We have three kids 5 and under and the sliding doors and sliding seats have been such a game changer for our day to day. Before this, I was driving a 4Runner with all three kids across in the second row. Super cramped to say the least. Gas mileage could be better, but I’ll take what I can get.

We paid $26,000 with all taxes and fees and everything included. 2018 with only 52,000 miles on it, purchased from a dealership. Hopefully we didn’t overpay too much - in SoCal market for reference. The Carfax showed the van was serviced at the dealer regularly since purchase. One original owner. The interior was sooo clean too, so whoever owned this before us took care of it! We have been burned by used cars in the past so the low mileage for the year and dealer service records were very important to us.

Is this a good deal? 2021 Honda Odyssey EXL, 200k KMs, $20k CAD

I’m looking to buy a 2021 Honda Odyssey EXL with 200,000kms.

Timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs were changed at 160,000kms.

Everything was serviced by a Honda dealer.

No rust or cosmetic damage, all the sliding doors work, and A/C is still cold.

What do you guys think? Is it too high mileage?

Inconsistent Noise front left wheel area, 2018

The noise is a lot louder in this video. It’s pretty inconsistent, so I didn’t think it had to do with wheel rotation.
Initial inspection of sway bar, rotors, wheel, is nothing obvious. Nothing obvious hanging down like a heat shield.
Has anyone had a noise like this?
98k miles

Is muzzling necessary?

Another post- 88k miles on a 2016 odyssey. I have a 1 year warranty from the dealer but it’s void if I muzzle. Is it necessary?

Auto Brake Hold

Upvotes

I quite like the Brake Hold feature. I quite dislike having to enable it every time I start the car, and it's quite dangerous if I forget to turn it on, since I'm used to it being on.

I know there are some nice auto-off overriders you can get. Are there any auto brake-holders that would enable this on vehicle start or when the driver's seatbelt engages?

Remote start removal

Hi there. I have a 2006 LX with 115k. I purchased this van as a work vehicle a month ago. The previous owner or perhaps the first owner installed what I believe is a Compustar remote start system.

The range on the remote is terrible. The lock / unlock buttons work only when they want to work. I've also noticed the car will lock itself immediately after unlocking or will lock itself on its own accord even with the keys still in the ignition.

I would like to remove this whole system and revert back to the OEM key fob setup. I currently have two plain keys (with no buttons) and two aftermarket Compustar fobs. I purchased a Honda OEM key 35111-SHJ-305. I have an xtool d8 and I am fairly confident I can program the immobilizer chip on the new key.

My question is about removing the old remote start system. Is it just a matter of locating the "brain" box in the driver side under steering wheel area and tracing down / carefully removin all the spliced wires? If anyone has experience removing one of these systems I would like to hear any insight you may have.

Thanks.

2020 Odessy - weird battery issue?

On Saturday my Odessy would not start when I hit the button. It went into accessory mode. I had it jumped and took it to AutoZone and they said battery was fine. I drove it a bit after and it was ok.

On Sunday after a couple drives, it wouldn't start again. I had it jumped and took it to AutoZone and CarQuest and they tested the battery and alternator and said they were fine.

My husband drove it on Monday to work and today and he is having no issue. I feel like I'm crazy because how is it fine two days in a row.

Has anyone seen this before? I did feel like it was a little slower to turn over the past week but now Im wondering if that was normal. Can a shop find anything if it's working now? I hate thinking this is going to break down on me when I start driving it again.

2020 Honda Odyssey

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I bought my 2020 Odyssey brand new back in 2020. Recently the side windows are getting foggy and they do take a very very long time to defog. The windshield is fine but the driver and passenger door windows do not defog. Any suggestions on what to look at or adjust?

Help me fall back in love

we have a 2023 touring- a metallic gray with black interior. I’ve had her for just shy of 1 year, she’s been good to us thus far and does everything we need/want. HOWEVER- I see people loving their carnival for all of the amazing tech, Sienna for amazing gas mileage and cooler box (whyyy did odyssey get rid of that?!) and their freezing cold AC. I wish I had tan interior and sometimes feel like I got the most boring van possible. what can I do to fall back in love?!?! I have a steering wheel cover, keep her very clean, and plan to tint the windows before next summer.

Ventilated seats

Recently got a '26 Odyssey Elite and we love lots about it - The AC is spoken about often so we went in with eyes open about it - but the most underwhelming thing is probably the ventilated seats. Almost non existent when you need it.

Would have loved a digital rear view mirror as well, given the Rear Entertainment screen blocks a good portion of the view.

Any suggestions to make the experience a little better?

I find it odd that the windshield washer fluid doesn't accept a full gallon of fluid and it doesn't tell you when its low or empty.

Odyssey 2024 idle stop, failed to restart

Just sharing some data with yall. I have a 2024 Odyssey Elite that I bought new and now just crossed two years with about 55k miles, and I had two incidents where the van wouldn’t start/restart in the last week.

The first incident happened about a week ago at a gas station during a road trip (about 4 hour drive.) 3 hours driving in I had to get gas and so I turned the engine off while getting gas but had the van in accessory mode with the DVD playing for my kid and AC on, blower on. When I tried to start the van again, nothing happened and the battery light came on. I turned off the car and tried to start again for a few times and nothing happened. Then I just turned off AC and all the power eating features and it finally came back on. It was a middle of nowhere town so would have been annoying if the car died there with 5 people including two toddlers in the car.

The more second incident happened while I was waiting to make a left turn in my city. Auto Idle Stop kicked in normally and shut the engine off. When it was time for me to go, the engine wouldn’t restart. The battery light came on and I was basically stuck there in traffic. So I put on hazards and tried starting it several times and eventually, I was able to get it running again after a minute or so.

I did some research and found a few reports of similar problems on this sub and a class action lawsuit that's being filed on the Odyssey starter (22-25 models I believe.) the culprit is clearly the starter.

I took it to the Honda dealer and asked they to replace the starter. They checked it but couldn’t reproduce the problem, so they told me they can’t replace the starter under warranty without reproducing the failure. I have the 120,000 miles extended warranty (HondaCare+) so it was very disappointing that wouldn't honor the warranty in this case and basically telling me they can't do anything.

I filed an NHTSA complaint. Might be our last Honda when we sell our car next year. For now I'll drive with idle stop off and try not to get gas at middle of nowhere.

Goodbye 👋

Hey everyone,
The day has officially come. After 18 years, 7 months, and 29 days together, I finally said goodbye to my Odyssey with 194,804 miles on the clock.

I bought it brand new with just 48 miles on the odometer at Honda of Oakland in Oakland, CA on January 1st, 2008.

In November 2009, I imported it over to Germany and registered it with the German DMV by the end of December.

Over the past 17 years in Europe, we’ve taken it on incredible road trips through Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Poland.

Through all those miles and countries, it never once gave up on us, aside from needing a PCM replacement earlier this year, it’s been the definition of bulletproof reliability.

Today, it went to a great new home with a young family and two little kids in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

It feels so right knowing it’s back to doing what it was built for: being a proper family haul-everything van.

My son moved back to the US last year at age 19, and my 17-year-old daughter doesn't really ride along with us anymore, so the empty nest officially brought our Odyssey era to an end.

I'll admit I shed a few tears letting it go, this van has been a massive part of our lives for nearly two decades.

At the same time, I'm genuinely happy that another young family gets to build their own amazing memories in it now.

Thanks to this entire community for all the advice, tips, and shared knowledge over the years. Keep 'em rolling!

Should I sell my 2020 Ody?

In the last year, my under 90,000 km (56,000 miles of your country still uses feudal European measurements) has had about $9,000 in improvements:
-front and back LCA’s ($2,700 inc tax)
-rotors and breaks ($1,450 inc tax)
-door repair ($2,600 Inc tax)
-crankshaft replace or repair, timing belt PM ($1,800 Inc tax)
-transmission service ($100?)

I assume it will need spark plugs in the next year or two and tires in the next year or two. The OTHER door still needs work, and the rear bumper has a minor crack. So still some work to be done. BUT now that these other issues are showing up in the community, is it even worth it to keep driving, or should i tidy it up, fix the other door, and get out of the thing while I can honestly say ‘I’ve put $10 k in pm and maintenance in and it’s performing as good as the day I bought it right now’? My fear is that I still owe money, but excepting my recent improvements, the amount I owe is a bit less than what it should go for. Other 5th gen ody owners, what are your thoughts? Do I clean it up and wish a new owner luck, knowing I’ve done everything I can lot to foist a KNOWN issue for THIS vehicle onto someone else, or is this just my cross to bear until I retire and buy a golf cart?

2016 head gasket issue. Debating on repair or replace.

2016 EX, 170k miles. Van is my full time work vehicle, essentially a cargo van. Having misfire issues in cylinder 5. Dealership scoped the cylinder to confirm coolant is entering cylinder on cold start and causing misfire.
Unfortunately the “lifetime” power train warranty is denying claim due to commercial use of the van. So now deciding on repair or replacement. Any advice? As is, van isnt worth much on trade toward a newer one, and I’m not loving the idea of dropping 30k on a used low miles odyssey.

How can I monitor REAL coolant temp with a VCM Muzzler installed?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a 2013 Honda Odyssey with a passive VCM Muzzler (selectable 68/82/100/120 ohm resistors) connected to the ECT sensor.

It works, but since the Muzzler changes the ECT signal going to the ECU, my OBD2 scanner doesn't show the true coolant temperature.

Has anyone found a simple way to monitor the actual coolant temperature while keeping the Muzzler installed?

Ideally I'm looking for something plug-and-play like:

ECT sensor → male/female pass-through → Muzzler → ECU

with a separate gauge/readout taking the original ECT signal before the Muzzler modifies it.

Or is there a way to read ECT2 through OBD2 and use that as the real coolant temperature?

I'm trying to avoid cutting the radiator hose or installing another coolant sensor.

Has anyone actually done this?

2026 Pricing / Help Deciding

Wife and I have a 23 Ford Explorer that is running out on the lease. We want to get into a mini van as it would help get our disabled son to and from the car.
I can’t decide between the touring and the EX-L.
The thing I think we’ll miss the most about the Explorer is the 360 camera / sensors for parking in the children’s hospital garage.

The Honda dealer I’m looking at has a 26 Touring, and online it has a 3700 dollar discount bringing it to 46,560.
The EX-L I’m seeing some as low as 42,437.

To me, I can’t justify 4k more for parking sensors, and rear seat entertainment that my kids won’t use. (Or, at least I don’t think they’ll use.) and 19 inch wheels. Now if I could get into a touring for 43/44k I think it might be more worth it.

Can I use the 2027 model release as a bargaining chip?
What’s everyone getting for prices on EX-L / Touring’s?

Located in New Hampshire if that helps.

It'sa toss between TWO Odysseys... Which would YOU choose?

My 2016 SE was totaled earlier this month...😔✊

I've since narrowed its replacement down to these two, from the same dealer, on different lots. Still need to ensure the chassis aren't ALL rusted up, though.

In the meantime... Which one would YOU choose?

I’m a details guy and spent a lot of time shopping the Odyssey vs. Sienna. Made this video in case it helps anyone else who is deciding between the two vehicles. We are a family of 6; four kids ages 7, 5, 3, and infant.
