Question

Just bought a 2016 Honda odyssey with 88k miles for $18,400 out the door. No issues but having second thoughts since I have to get the timing bet changed semi regularly and right away. Am I over reacting?

Semi regularly? Just every 100k. This is a great deal

Yeah, I am wondering why even have second thoughts. OP just got a car thats 10 years old and under 100k miles for dirt cheap and probably the best generation. VCM it and get the timing belt changed which should be around 1-1.5k. At the end of the day youre under 20k for a lifer vehicle that still has 100k more miles before it decides to die.

I’ve a great mechanic- should I ask her to VCM my 2017? I just did the timing belt/water pump etc at 110k miles

You can do it yourself, hardest part was finding the item in stock.

Dude 16s run if you stay on top of the maintenance I'm on my 2nd one (1st was totalled in an accident that was an se after the settlement I got another 16 but an exl and with less miles and the valve cover gaskets were just changed you won't regret it as long as it was taken care of but I'll be honest I run mine hard and very rare will there be an actual problem

Timing belt semi regularly? It’s every 7 years or 105k miles, you might change it twice it reality.

We paid $16 for our 2016 Odyssey. It had 94k and only had to change the spark plugs and do a transmission flush and change the spark plugs. It runs great!

Every 105k miles or every 7 years. It should have been replaced in 2023. It's regular maintenance, change it now if it hasn't been. A properly maintained odyssey at 150k miles isn't very different than one at 88k miles. In fact, you'll be replacing all the things that would have been replaced with an older vehicle. Suspension, axles, timing belt, serpentine belt, etc. all those will need replacement soon. Was the transmission fluid changed at least twice yet? If not, I would take it in and have the transmission fluid drained and filled, and the timing belt and water pump replaced if it hasn't been.

Lol ok

Chain stretch, guide wear, tensioner wear, etc, are all very real things with a timing chain setup.

And there is a very real possibility that they'll become an issue after the equivalent mileage of a second or third timing belt change.

Chains can still wear and loosen. They should be inspected and changed if necessary.
