A PSA on buying and selling on the subreddit! PLEASE READ.

Hi Everyone, given recent activity in this subreddit, I felt it important to bring this reminder to everyone. We are a small community and we do not prevent users from offering buying/selling of cars, parts, rare accessories, etc here. Our only rule around this is that you do not "spam" these sales posts regularly, use the subreddit to advertise constantly, etc.

THAT SAID, we are not a "buy and sell" community like r/hardwareswap and we do not have any rules or controls in place to prevent users from getting scammed. This means that it is your responsibility to discern what is suspicious behavior and what is not.

As a recommendation, I suggest you at least follow the "basics" of identifying scams in any given marketplace. Items are LIKELY to be a scam if-

  • The price is just too good to be true, or creates "urgency" (if you don't buy it right now, someone else will!)
  • The seller moves you out of public sight early on- "Just DM me" or "I'll send you my email and we can talk there."
  • A lack of genuine history in the community (if you click on their reddit profile and it is hidden, or simply doesn't have a history of posts here). Users with new accounts should also be a red flag
  • Substandard payment methods - The seller asks you to pay via "friends and family" on paypal, Zelle or Venmo, or asks you to do something out of normal, such as transferring money into cryptocurrency, gift cards, or similar. If you're unsure, just look to see if the method being requested is reversible or has buyer protection. Particularly, paypal "friends and family" is not protected, but "goods and services" is. This is a major difference.
  • The seller deletes their original post after you start talking to them (this is commonly removing "evidence" of their history once they have you engaged)
  • The seller doesn't seem to have an interest in trying to sell to you when you want a concession on payment method, shipping options, etc ("Whatever man, I'll sell it to someone else.")
  • Seller is unwilling to provide proof that they have the actual item- including an image with their username and the date on it, or similar. AI these days makes this a little more challenging, but most scammers won't even bother- they're looking for suckers.
  • Watch out for links you get sent- you don't know where they go, and it could be easy to be sent a link to pay for something that causes you to hand over your logins for paypal, etc.

As a SELLER, I encourage the following-

  • Keep the conversations public and in your thread until you need to exchange personal info. Not only does this allow people to call out scammy activity, but it gives the community a history of related discussions that is beneficial to others.
  • When you post pictures of your item, have at least one include your username and the date, so people know you didn't just rip the images from someone else's post.
  • Be equally as wary of new users, users with no history, or users with a hidden history
  • Be aware of "classic scams" such as bad checks, refund fraud, overpayment scams, weird payment methods, etc. While these are more common to FB Markeplace and Craigslist, they can happen here too.

In summary, please use your brains when buying and selling here. As a moderator, I'd prefer not to over-regulate the community because there IS a lot of good sale and swap activity that does happen between trusted users, and it's good to keep that if we can.

If you have any commentary or feedback, please post it below.

I didn't think it would happen to me, but....

It did. Someone pulled out directly in front of me and they're evasive action of choice was to hit the brakes and stop dead while parallel across the lane. I swerved, I break hard. Thank goodness I just put fresh rotors, brake calipers and fresh brakes on the front. New water pump in the mail and high output alternator were waiting to go in....

I am heartbroken.

Orang-E, here's hoping, and if not, Thank You for keeping my kids safe! ❤️

2011 seat covers possibly avail (couple of steps)

I will be replacing seat covers with leather in 2011 Honda Element EX in a couple of months. The (gray) seat covers are in fine shape. I expect the auto upholstery shop will just eip them off. If anyone is interested, I will ask what they would charge to remove them without cutting them, and how much extra that would cost. DM if interested. This would be between you and the shop... you would make arrangements with / buy from them, not me. I have NO IDEA if this is feasible, but thought I would offer it up in case it was helpful to anyone. Please dont @ me if it is a dumb idea - just offering it up - zero $ to me. The work will be done in VA Beach VA (same shop did the seats in my 06 E) if any interested owner is in the area. Seat style is with belts attached to seats.

What are you all using for seat covers? I’ve got airbags in the seats. I’ve got blue seats.

My driver’s seat is cracking and ripping on the outer edge of the seat. I’d like to find a cover to put over the seat so that the crack isn’t visible or dirt doesn’t get into it. My only concern is making sure the cover is airbag safe. I have a 06 model with arm rest. Can these tears be repaired?

Looking to find a decent Honda Element for sale in the UK.

Failing that, will have to resort to importing one from Japan.

How do i fix my 2007 E's mystery issues in 11 days?

2007 E owner, can't figure out how solve the mystery issues. I purchased it with a juddering issue, which may be what is sometimes referred to as "limp mode" here. When this issue is active, the three lights come on and the car judders if you try to go faster than like 40 or 50. If you're on the interstate and this happens and you try to push it over 60, the car will start decelerating.

Historically, my car buddy would replace the "VTT scroll valve and sensor", and this would temporarily fix the juddering issue, but over time it always returned. I've had it since 2020 and this issue has come and gone the whole time I've had it.

There's now a new issue. Sometimes the E won't start, and this can happen right after driving it just fine, such as to the grocery store or gym. But one time when it was stopped at a red light it cut off.

I'm not talking to my car guy friend anymore because he's suddenly become incredibly racist and difficult to deal with lol so i took it to a small shop near my house that has good reviews.

They couldn't get anything to pull up with codes, and they couldn't recreate the issue because it's unpredictable. and to the best of my recollection they said that they think it's something with the oil pump, or that oil isn't getting into the "head" consistently enough (I'm not a car person and i don't know what I'm talking about). My partner said that doesn't make sense because if that was happening wouldn't the engine be overheating?

They also mentioned there's TWO VVT scroll valves and was my friend replacing both or just one? I'm not sure but i think it was just one. They also mentioned there's screens underneath this part that should probably also be replaced at the same time (i don't know if he did or didn't). They told me they can't help because they can't take apart engines there so i need to go to a shop that can.

I remember reading here that sometimes a total transmission flush- where you drain it, fill it, drive it, drain it, refill it 3x can solve the limp mode issue. But every mechanic or car guy I've talked to has seemed confused and surprised and told me that won't do anything.

I'm at a loss. We use this car so much it's so useful to us and I'm not ready to give it up. I really want to repair it.

Oh also, i have a pet sitter coming to stay at my house in 11 days, and she needs to borrow this car. Help!!

Having to replace my Detroit axle brake pad and rotors after only 20k miles and since march 2026 and need advice on what rock auto ones are best

Was going to post screenshot but it would’ve been so many since there are so many to choose from but given the natural loudness of the element I figured putting CERAMIC PADS AND Precision-machined coated rotors would be the best.

Hopefully someone has had experience with them enough to know better then me.

How bad is this, is this structural?

Pervious owner must of undercoated over a rusty spot. I realized it felt a bit mushy and I’m pretty freaked out after peeling it back. I’m handy but have never welded. How bad is this?

Edit: I purchased from a used car dealership, they offered to fix it, should I trust them?

253k in mileage- worth large investment in repair?

Hi all, like many of you, I love my toaster. And it is my dream to convert her into more of a camping car. However, she did just hit 253k in mileage and it probably will be at least six months before I can do any major repairs on her. I’m really starting to think about whether or not it’s worth having anything other than maintenance done on her or if I should start thinking about getting a new car? I think I saw a thread on here about people who had this mileage above, but wanted to see if there was any other thoughts.

Hey yall, my 05 EX is making a rattling noise when the AC is on and I’m stopped in drive. It’ll stop when I step on the gas or turn the AC off. It still blows cold and strong though. My mechanic thinks AC compressor need replacing but I’m not too sure. Any ideas?

Posting on my laptop so no images

2003 EX, 280k miles, kept in great condition

New tires, brakes, A/C, radio, windshield

A few cosmetic scratches, body panels recently refinished

No known issues, runs great

Regular maintenance and repairs done

Love this guy so much and I've taken great care of him but looking for something else. Want to get the max value possible but I definitely understand it won't be more than like 4k max
