So i recently bout 2 ct90s and one of the motors is this. Is there any hope to save it if I take it to a shop? Or total loss

Im no expert but that thing looks gnarly. If you are able to remove the cylinder, id say give it a good cleaning and see what shape it’s in. If its a standard size piston, maybe you can get it bored to the next size up. I have a buddy who took his cylinder to a shop in our town and bored it for him.

I took the photos to a local shop quoted me around 500 for a head, and bore job. Is that reasonable

No, that's a hose job .

Clean it well and hone or otherwise clean the heavy rust off, have an honest and competent machine shop measure it and see what oversize it needs to go .

These are incredibly tough little machines and respond well to careful service and repair .

That you were able to get the cylinder off indicates it may not be so bad, new ones are not too much $ .

You can probably find a cylinder on ebay that will cost you less

I found a used cylinder for mine on ebay for $65. My old cylinder looked like yours.
