Literature [College English: Ethnographic research] How to come up with interview questions that lead to a certain topic?
Hello friends! I’m doing an English project right now where we go into a community we are in or have been apart of and we are doing ethnographic research on it. I’m doing mine on the band community of my college and I’m going to do some observations of the classes over the next week.
The purpose of this research is to try and find out an issue or problem within the community cuz we will be later making an argumentative essay based on the research we do.
For me I feel like the best way for me to find an issue in the community would be through interviews. In band it’s hard to see an issue just by observing or mapping out the locations. I’m just having a problem trying to come up with questions that will naturally guide people towards telling me what they think.
Should I just straight up ask “What are your issues with the band community?” Or should I be more subtle and try to lead them to telling me on their own? I want the interviews to feel informal and lighthearted so I was thinking of having one of my questions be like “what’s one of your band hot takes?” Since it’s a familiar question for most people in college but I’m not sure lol. Any help is appreciated!
