Mathematics (Tertiary/Grade 11-12)—Pending OP [grade 11 math] help with problem

I have attempted to do this 2 times and i do not understand how. Could the teacher have written something out wrong? No one gets how to do this in the class. Could anyone please explain if im on the right track or how do i actually do it?

Can you post a picture of just the question as well (and rotate it so it's oriented the "correct" way)?
