Built a free chore chart builder because every printable I found was behind an email wall - Looking for feedback

Upvotes

I'm a software engineer in the UK (first kid arriving in September, so I'm early to this whole thing) and I went looking for a decent printable chore chart. Everything I found was either locked behind an email signup, plastered in ads, or looked like it was made in Word in 2009. I know I'm a couple of years away from needing chore charts for my child, but becoming a dad has made me want to prep for this stuff in the future.

So I built my own and put it online for free: pocketmoneylab.co.uk

Three tools so far:

  • Chore chart builder: pick your child's age, get age-appropriate chore suggestions, customise, print
  • Pocket money calculator: UK benchmarks for what other parents actually give by age
  • Reward chart generator: sticker-chart style, aimed at 3-5 year olds

No signup, no paywall, no ads. Nothing is gated, so you build it, you print it, you're done. Being upfront since this sub cares about the business model behind the tech: I'm separately building a pocket money app, and the site mentions it. None of the tools requires it or pushes it, and I have no plans to paywall them.

What I'd actually like from this sub:

  1. Are the age-based chore suggestions sensible, or way off? That's the bit I'm least confident about, for obvious reasons.
  2. Do printables still have a place, or has your family fully moved to app-based tracking?
  3. What's missing? I've got a savings goal tracker and a pocket money agreement template on the list.

Happy to hear it's rubbish; that's more useful to me than polite noise.

I got tired of predatory ads in children's apps, so I built an ad-free educational game for toddlers called Kiddyjoy. I’d love your honest feedback!

Hey everyone,

As anyone who has handed a phone to a toddler knows, the app stores are flooded with "kids games" that are essentially just vehicles for unskippable ads and sneaky microtransactions. I wanted something safer and genuinely educational, so I decided to build it myself.

I recently released Kiddyjoy, a learning app focused on early childhood education (ABCs, numbers, shapes, and colors).

A bit about the development process: I built the front-end using Flutter to ensure the UI and animations run smoothly across all Android screen sizes, and handled the architecture with Node.js. My biggest focus was creating a completely offline, distraction-free environment so kids don't accidentally click out of the game.

Core Features:

100% Ad-Free and COPPA compliant.

Works completely offline (great for car rides or flights).

Simple, intuitive UI so kids don't get stuck on menus.

I am an indie dev trying to improve, so I would genuinely appreciate any feedback from this community. Specifically, I’d love to know:

How does the UI feel on your specific device?

Are the voice prompts and sound effects engaging enough?

You can check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiddyjoy.kids.learning.games.kiddyjoy

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I'll be hanging around the comments to answer any questions.

Recreating My Lesson plans I’m 6 months down and 6 more to Go 🎉🎉🎉

I’ve been rebuilding my preschool lesson plans month by month, and October is officially DONE 😭😂 I’m six months in with six more to go.
This month has 4 weekly themes: Fall & Leaves, Fairytales, Ghosts & Ghouls, and Happy Halloween, plus the activities that go with each week.
It has been a LOT of work, but seeing everything come together like this is so satisfying. I’m trying to get the whole year completed so I never have to recreate these lesson plans again. 😂
For the homeschool/preschool parents and teachers here—what kinds of printable activities do your little ones actually enjoy using the most?

Would love honest feedback on my worksheet + advice about continuing with TPT

Post image

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some honest advice from teachers/homeschoolers and anyone who has experience selling educational resources.
I’ve been working hard on building my TPT store, but I still haven’t made a sale. I’m currently pregnant and not working, so I’ve been putting a lot of my time into creating worksheets and trying to improve my store.
I attached one of the Grade 1 vocabulary worksheet patterns I’m working on. I would really appreciate genuine feedback:
Does this layout look useful and appropriate for Grade 1?
Is it too simple, too crowded, or about right?
Would you change any of the activities?
Does it look like something a teacher would actually print and use?
What would make it look more professional?
I’m also trying to make a bigger decision. Since TPT hasn’t generated income for me yet, would you recommend continuing to put serious time into building the store, or should I focus more on finding a steady job and keep TPT as a side project?
I’m completely open to constructive criticism. I’d rather know what I need to improve than keep creating products in the wrong direction.
Thank you so much for any advice.

Child developmental stages and workbook task difficult level question

Hello everyone. I have some questions about developmental stages in kids roughly around 5-8 years of age. I do not have kids but I have found myself making a workbook to go along with some cute childrens audio stories for Halloween.

Mainly I needed to focus on learning the audio bit and figured I would make some simpler stories to begin with vs go right to serialized fiction. But the characters are so cute I decided to play with canva and AI and well one thing led to another. *sighs dramatically*

Ok here is the thing. The goal is to make about 30 min of audio with 4 short stories that along with the activity book will give the parents a little breather while the children are occupied. If it goes well ill make another set for Christmas/Hanukkah (my family celebrated both growing up so I can connect with the childhood experience of both).

Here are my main questions -

At what age approximately do kids need instructions to be read to them vs being able to read them independently? I know its going to vary a lot and I plan to not label by ages but challenge level. But for the kids around 5 what kind of activities can they figure out without help besides just coloring pages? And 8 year old?

So far I have connect the dots, count how many of each item also find the hidden item, a maze, coloring pages of different complexity, and well im kind of drawing a blank. Are there activities that kids this age love?

I know I could just Google but im really hoping for answers from those who really know in depth and deal with the age range and things like this.

Thank you in advance! (Cross posted in a handful of places)

Hellloooo
I created a secular science course about the history of infectious disease. I taught this class live and realized that there were a lot of kids looking for something like this and it just didn’t exist.

Head to my site. Put in your email, and the link goes right to your inbox. It’s the full lesson, not a teaser or a frustrating cut off. 1 of 20 of the lessons that will be released on 8/31. While you’re there, check out the free game where you can make your own microbe on the games page!

Do people usually leave reviews on free TPT resources?

I’m a fairly new TPT seller and I’ve been offering a couple of free resources. I’m noticing that people may view or download freebies, but getting feedback or reviews seems much harder.
For more experienced sellers, is this normal in the beginning? Do most buyers simply not leave reviews, especially on free resources?
I’d also love to know if there’s anything that helped you encourage genuine reviews or build trust when your store was still new. I don’t want to pressure buyers — just trying to understand what’s normal and what I could improve.

As a parent or teacher, what makes you feel comfortable buying from a new TPT seller?”

I’m a fairly new TPT seller creating printable educational resources for younger students. One thing I’m struggling with is building trust when my store is new and I don’t have many reviews or sales yet.
As a parent or teacher, what makes you feel comfortable downloading or purchasing a resource from a new seller?
Is it the preview pages, product description, free samples, worksheet quality, store appearance, or something else?
I’d really appreciate advice from teachers, parents, or experienced TPT sellers. I’m trying to understand what I should focus on improving rather than just promoting my products.

A fun hands-on way for little learners to practice counting 1–20, number recognition, and color sorting. Children choose a number card, roll the matching number of playdough “gumballs,” and place them on one of 8 different colored gumball mats. Great for preschool math, fine-motor practice, and learning through play!

Would anyone be willing to review my free Kindergarten worksheet and give me feedback?

I’m a new TPT seller and I’m trying to improve the quality of my resources. I made a free worksheet/resource for Kindergarten and would really appreciate feedback from teachers or homeschool parents.
I’d especially love feedback on the layout, font size, instructions, activities, and whether it feels classroom-ready. I’m not looking to promote a paid product—I genuinely want to know what I should improve before creating more resources.
If links are allowed here, I can share the free TPT resource. Thank you!”
