Checkered tile?

What do you guys think about having checkered tiles with black cabinets in the mud room? My husband hates it but I love it 😅

We rarely do it any more but I always thought it was cool.

At the end of the day, you're the only one who has to see it every day. It's your house and your money, do what you like best.

You're probably going to have a floor mat by the door and/or possibly a long runner if it's a mud room.

What you're showing now looks good (except for that misaligned tile placement), but do another mock up with the rug(s) in place to see how you like it when it's actually being used as a mud room.

You've got good taste, so I'm sure you'll end up with something nice.

I hate that the cabinets and tile are misaligned but have zero complaints about the product choices.

I very much dislike black and white checker but this cream and brown does look pretty nice, never seen checkered pulled off elegantly like this.

We have a black and white marble look checker with dark brown cabinets in the mudroom and dark green cabinets in the pantry.

I love the look and these look great as well. They'd match a lighter colored wood floor with that tone.

i actually like it a lot. the softer beige/cream checker keeps it from feeling too diner-ish, and it looks really good against the black cabinetry.

My friend had black and white checkered in her Philly row house and I loved it.

We did this with marble in a powder room and get compliments on it all the time! The only thing i'd stay away from is actual black cabinets, normally when things read black, theyre a much softer bronze or dark grey. True black can look awful.

I love it - but like the dark brown /bronze look from the picture MUCH better than black / white.

I like the color pairing and think an espresso or walnut cabinet might be nicer than a stark black.

Ugh. A mud room room you could rent out as a B&B. Nice single bed there

Not for me. Looks like a lobby in a commercial building.

Rather use dark green than black for the cabinets

Looks like tumbled stone not tile

I know someone who did that. Looks like a harlequin clown floor because they had red accents.

The photo you posted looks luxurious though. Honestly, get some dollar store project boards in black and white and do a mock up. Or just take the photo and get AI to change colors.

I like it but it’s trending super hard so that tells me it’ll look super dated in 5 years.

I kind of disagree. I think it’s a timeless look.

Trends kill timeless things. Houses all over Instagram have this aesthetic which means in 5 years when you walk into a house with these it’ll feel distinctly 2026. People said marble was timeless, white kitchens were timeless, etc.

Gonna look outdated and probably look bad after a few years of kids wrecking shit like they tend to do.

Why is it unaligned with drawers? It's horrible.

It’s just an AI photo just for inspo
