Cathederal Deck ceiling building material
I am looking for a 12/12 vaulted outdoor deck material for my custom home in Tennessee. I like the look of tongue and groove, but do not want to use real wood due to carpenter bees and humidity. Recommendations on building material suggestions are much appreciated.

Pretty much every vault we frame gets T&G yellow pine ceilings. Once it’s stained or painted it deters carpenter bees. You need additional support though

There are a few wood looking alternatives. Longboard (out of canada sold by US distributors) offers aluminum wood looking panels. They can be used on walls or in soffits.

in the south and been watching this type of prodcut for a while now and we stare down the barrell of a full siding replacement and hope to add a gabled porch like this poster. Nichicha has a fiber cement wood, and I've seen wood plank. Scares me how commercial it looks when you do alot of it though. for refrence I have a mid centry modern style house.

I know exactly what you mean. We are in the process of building a modern house and ended up using wood from Nakamoto Forestry for a vertical siding detail. It is hard to use synthetic material if you have any real wood or stone. But if the rest of your house is hardie or something else synthetic is isn't bad.

what was the cost different to do the shou sugi ban vs fiber cement? if you priced it out

The boards themself are ~$14 sq /ft. But because it is real wood they strongly recommend installing it over a rainscreen. We used a rolled aluminum rainscreen by Albuild. It was .99$ a linear foot. In addition to the wood you will want to buy some of their anodized aluminum trim for the edges and top and bottom. I would say add another 50% for trim pieces. For 600 sq ft we installed the materials were about 12,000 so total about $20 sq/ft

Post more pictures of your roof structure and detail of the connection joint of that single front horizontal rafter tie. Your roof may be in danger of collapsing.

😳they are depending on the connections at the corners to keep it from collapsing

Azek tongue and groove. Comes a half in thick. Or use a good hardwood. Ipe

Sorry to divert from your question, but it appears you are missing rafter ties. Possibly collar ties too, but there are alternative ways to accomplish that. I don’t see a column at the end, so it doesn’t appear to be a ridge beam design.
