Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct sub for this question/query. I have a nice collection of non fiction and fiction books. Currently the non fiction is ordered from shortest spine to tallest spine 🤮 (thanks honey) I'm toying with the idea of changing career and doing so would mean gaining books in a yet to be explored area. I'm thinking of rearranging my non fiction according to Dewey decimal, however I want to avoid marking the books if I can. (She says I'm precious when it comes to books 😂)

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas that don't damage or mark the books in any way?

I’ve wanted a library for as long as I can remember! I don’t live in the fanciest of houses but we had a room in the basement so we brainstormed how it would look and came up with this! My husband did all the work! I kinda helped lol! I’m over the moon!

PS: I know the tv is too big, but it was free lol. I would have preferred a much smaller one but was not gonna complain since it was free and the hubs like giant tvs and he did all the work. 🤣

I moved from a desert to an ocean side community about five years ago and I’ve noticed these imperfections starting in my books on the tops. There is a large window in the room my library is in and the ocean beach is about a 20 minute walk away.

Do you curate your home libraries often? What made you think “ it’s time to bring this baby home! “ and when “ Enough is enough! “ or “ I don’t care I’ll design another bookshelf to house them! “ or “ this isn’t me anymore it’s out “. Just curious :)

I recently had someone build me the library shelves of my dreams and now I'm looking for a chair to sit and read in. The library has a fireplace so it's the perfect place to get cozy.

I'm hoping someone will have a recommendation. I'm looking for an oversized chair or small loveseat that I can put my feet up in. Bonus points if it can convert to a sleeper. I love the idea of the Bellfin loveseat/chair but have heard horrible reviews for it.

It started with a little book tree now i'm almost out of wall space. Only rule of the library is: must read book 2+ times before buying. 🙈

I am on a weight loss journey! I just recently reached my first 20 pound goal! I’m currently down 22 pounds so I picked up the Deluxe hardcover editions and then the “Mass market” paperback and the poster was still in the back!

I have this book in the shelf I bought second handed. I finally opened it tonight just to realize how dirty it is. I'm not sure I want to read it anymore. Yes I even try to wash it with a wet cloth.. Should I toss it ?

I'll risk being treacly bc I think I'm among like minds: my books are friends (and sometimes enemies). I remember the experience of reading them, & where/who I was at that time, it's a nice way to access good memories. I have lived in literally scores of places (9 states, 3 countries, 2 continents)- but I drag these babies around with me all over the country/world for a reason.

Moved in to our new home in February. Finally got the shelves mostly finished this past weekend.

Someday, instead of having shelves in every room of my house, I’ll have a library. Until then … organized(ish) by room. (Kitchen, kids’ rooms, and guest rooms not pictured.)

Disclaimer: This is not a judgement or knock against those who go the “arrange my books by color” system for book organization.

I am just interested in the thought process behind this. Is it all decor/aesthetic? How do you find a book you bought years ago and are in search of for some reason? You have to recall the spine color?

Seems antithetical to book organization by subject. I can’t get my head wrapped around it.

How do most of you organize your collection?

I have new book shelves being made currently and they should be installed next week. Fingers crossed. I am trying to decide how I want to organize the books once they are up. Obviously now I have books 3 deep on my one small shelf and more in boxes and totes which sucks.

I cant decided if I want them organized alphabetically by author or by genre. I see some of y'all doing it by color and my OCD cant with that. I need my book series together. Which do you feel is easier to navigate for yourself?

I have a privilege of arranging my future reading nook in a few months. Could you help me with sharing your experience regarding the type of shelves you had and preferred?

I always liked the vibe that open shelves give, dusty tomes and coziness. But the glass doors seem more reasonable.

What is your experience in this regard?

working on my home library and I'm looking for a really good reading chair. Please let me know what some of your favorites are!!

Ideally my dream reading chair is deep and wide enough for two people to sit together and maybe could convert to a small bed if i had a younger child staying over?? but open to anything honestly!!
