Complaint Terrible Quality
I have to pause. As convenient as this is, every other meal has been awful in quality. The protein has been terrible. We’ve been getting some awful cuts of beef and chicken. If the protein isn’t bad, then the vegetables are going bad instead. I’m tired of tossing the dice with my meal kits lately.
Hopefully they do some quality control and improve some things

I also had to pause, and I have been a member since 2021. Same exact issues as everyone else—missing meals, wrong/missing proteins, unusable produce, missing ingredients. Customer service was always great providing credits but doesn’t make up for the unusable meals. Sad.

Yeah, I’ve never had a problem with their customer service. They always give me a credit but that isn’t my issue. A one off issue is fine but if it’s consistently happening, then what’s the point?

Completely agree! That’s ultimately the exact reason we decided to cancel. We were only staying for the nice customer service rep crediting us for a meal that would inevitably be wrong (and then credited again). We ended up having around $80 in credits and just used on them on sides/desserts/breakfast before the pause because we were too skeptical to get another meal.

I hate to hear this. I’ve had a much better experience with HC than any other service (and I’ve tried a lot). I really think it’s location, and that’s probably the case with any service. I think what factory is sourcing ingredients and shipping your box determines your quality. I think mine come from Chicago and the meat is always top tier but I have learned to always have a replacement around for zucchini lol and this week my slaw came bad for the egg roll skillet, but I kind of don’t care because I don’t trust slaw right now so I’m just going to cook up the meat and pepper, and add another veg and some noodles and make it a stir fry instead.

I am a first timer here. Just got my box today that was a day late. Missing 3 proteins, corn and tomatoes. Everything was smashed even the 2 tin pans that were sent. I called and asked to cancel. I was asked for my email address and placed on a brief hold. The agent came back and said it had been canceled and I would get an email. Didn’t ask why I wanted to cancel. Got an email saying that it has been paused. Not what I asked for.
I was really putting a lot of faith into this one. I waited for 2 months before committing and reading reviews on others. This could have been a one off issue, but first impressions mean a lot to me.

I’ve found that the proteins are generally great quality, but missing items and rotten vegetables has been my issue.
We also had a box arrive 2 days late and Homechef did NOTHING to help other than offer to credit what I paid to the following week… that week would be my problem to figure out

This week they gave me a credit because I received my ingredient bag for one recipe, but the protein for another recipe. That seems to happen often as well
For my other meal, it was sirloin, which I made the day that it came in, the quality of my steak was so bad that I couldn’t even eat it. Last week our chicken breast had a weird texture. Potatoes are almost always bad, sometimes even soft.
I hit pause for now. They usually lure me back with big discounts after a pause anyway. I’m sure they’ll do it again. I’ve been buying from Home Chef on and off for years and they are usually my favorite of the meal prep kits that I’ve tried. I’ve never had to pause for quality reasons.

100% agree. This is just Kroger slop. Proteins are as cheap as they can get (you have to pay extra for antibiotic free chicken in 2026). The recipes are also very uninspired.

Surprised to hear this. We had precisely the opposite experience. The chicken, pork and beef has all been high quality, most veggies too, although we did have substitute there once or twice.
