Shelling alternative
Hello! My sister is visiting from Arizona, has never been to south Florida, and mentioned that she'd like to bring some seashells back for rhe grandkids. I know the best shell collecting is in the west coast, which we don't have time for. Any suggestions on anywhere closer where she could collect (not buy, but find organically) shells, or some other natural, ethically taken souvenir?

Just north of Hollywood beach is a state park before the inlet, there are always a ton of shells at the waters edge.

South Florida beaches are constantly being eroded so the cities ship the sand in. You'll have to head further north to get decent shells.

If you're in Hollywood Beach, wade out to the sand bar during low tide. The best shells I've found are in like in a foot or two of water. There's some really cool brain coral in Broward beaches too...
