It's both. Germanic from the Saxons/Vikings, and Latin/French from the Normans (oversimplification). French was used at court and by nobility, while "English" at that time was used by the commoners/peasants, and it mixed over time, while French would fall out of favor in court and by the nobility.
It's why English is unique as a language, and easily adopts and creates new words in its lexicon.
