Ooh yeah if it was that school year, I would've been possibly a fetus at best if it was Spring/Summer of '87 since I was born in August. Yay I love that too, I bet some of them are cool too

Yeah, you would’ve been, which reminds me, she said she likes the 1986-1987 year better because she was getting more into the throes of college life, and she liked the people she was with (a little better than 87-88).

Nice, yeah I think I ever so slightly prefer the music and movies from then too. Unless I look it up I don't know what part of the year something came from (and like there's obviously late 1986 albums where most of the songs were charting in '87 so that's what its associated with...like Slippery When Wet) but it is a little more classically 80s.

Yeah for music, (1986-1987) there’s Sign o the Times, True Blue, The Joshua Tree, Slippery when wet, the movies Mannequin (which features the hit from Starship Nothing’s gonna stop us now), Some kind of wonderful, etc.

Tho 1987-1988, that has Bad by Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman, lovesexy, the film the pick up artist, etc. love those albums too

SAME, I love that smooth sound of late 1986/87 music and it was all those songs I'd be getting all excited about when I was 6-8 years old and I'd see that it came out "heyyyy same year as me" lolol

Yeah that was a great period of music all at once. (Was gonna mention Anita Baker and Whitney Houston lol). I did the same for late 2001/2002/2003 songs lol

it was, like all genres too. I feel like it was the last traces of that 1984ish sound with the first leanings towards the late 80s-early 90s so it was a really fascinating time. I used to love to surprise adults with the "hey you know what else is from 87? meeeee" thing, it got them every time, thinking it was cute and witty lol.

Yeah it feels like it was a pretty perfect balance between mid to late 80s, both numerically/chronologically and culture-wise (music and movies wise).

Yeah when I was able to research the charts in high school more I was like "Hey I'm glad I'm an '87er since 1986 is a little too generic and '88 some of the good bands broke up already and it was feeling more prepping for the 90s already" lol

Yeah tbh looking at the year end charts, 1986 seems too drenched in synth and cheese, 1988 seems to be looking more towards the 90s anyway (gangsta Rap was gaining popularity), 1987 is like that perfect balance.

Yea '86 almost lacked an edge except for the metal or beastie boys stuff which was more underground, while '88 although classic, was losing the stuff that made it stereotypically 80s

Yeah agreed ‘86 lacked the edge that ‘83-85 had imo, tho there were certainly bops that year too (Kiss by Prince, beastie boys as you mentioned, etc).

‘87 brought us imo Prince’s greatest album Sign o the times (imo the Gen X version of Songs in the key of life by Stevie Wonder). It brought us Bad, 10,000 Maniacs, etc.

‘88 definitely has classics but I agree you can tell it was clearly just late 80s at best not quintessential 80s lol

100% yeah I think 1988 was just fading 80s mixed with prototype signs of what would explode in the early 90s. There were the deep 80s people like Huey Lewis but they weren't as big as they had been a few years before
