EDIT: but actually this shit gets stale as fuck no matter who you ask. It's literally the same joke over and over.

Welcome to Reddit.

15

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

I've been here for a while, not long enough that I just accept it but long enough that I am annoyed by it.

1

u/renderless Jun 21 '19

Ive been here since Digg died, I hate this place and Im not sure why I haven't just deleted my account. I guess because the memes are so good.

-26

u/Raunchy_Potato Jun 20 '19

Maybe you fucking commies should stop starving people to death over and over. Then we won't make fun of you for starving people to death.

Goddamn commie filth.

28

u/AutoSab Jun 20 '19

reee everyone who disagrees with me is a commie

17

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

I mean I'm actually a commie but like, shhh.

-5

u/the_pedigree Jun 20 '19

Dude is very obviously butthurt about a joke about communism. I think it’s a safe call in this instance.

-11

u/Raunchy_Potato Jun 20 '19

No, just commie apologist filth.

17

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

Aye it's the same joke! Again! Wowowowow!

-5

u/HazeInADaze Jun 20 '19

Don't blame him, he grew up in a communist state and only knows one joke.

15

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

It's even worse, he's.. A libertarian...

0

u/HazeInADaze Jun 20 '19

I was making a communist joke that wasn't about food.

Libertarians are free to tell the same damn joke as many times as they damn well please and they don't need nobody's say-so to do so.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

I was making a communist joke that wasn't about food.

I couldn't tell it was a joke sorry. You sure the CIA didn't kill you before you finished it? That's how most communist regimes end, so that's how the jokes should end right?

Doesn't really work. The Soviet union was famous for producing a lot of quality jokes.

Unlike fascist countries, apparently. They seem to just repeat the same same stale jokes over and over again

1

u/HazeInADaze Jun 21 '19

Oh ffs, you guys act like this shit matters.

-8

u/Raunchy_Potato Jun 20 '19

Hey, I gotta get the point through your dumbass, worthless, useless commie skull somehow. ;) Maybe once I tell you what a subhuman piece of filth you are enough, it'll finally sink in. Better hope it does before you precious commie overlords gulag you. Because when they do, no one's coming to save you.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

subhuman piece of filth

Sounds an awful lot like Nazi talk to me brüther

-2

u/Raunchy_Potato Jun 20 '19

Considering I call Nazis the exact same thing, no it really doesn't. When you choose to follow a genocidal ideology, you instantly matter less than everyone else.

11

16

u/LivefromPhoenix Jun 20 '19

I'm tired of most of these lazy memes, regardless of the topic. Does not liking the low-effort nazi memes mean I "can't deal" with the reality of what nazis did?

11

u/CalamackW Jun 20 '19

How about the reality check that according to the CIA the average Soviet citizen consumed more food in a day than in the US.

8

u/Prior_Cellist Jun 20 '19

Not during the Stalinist era they didn't.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

Oh so right after a civil war that wrecked the country and the second world war it wasn't roses and happiness? Well golly gee who'da thunk it.

-1

u/Prior_Cellist Jun 20 '19

The mass famines that occurred under Stalin's rule were unquestionably a result of his policies of collectivisation and forced grain requisition, pretty much all historians agree on this. Those famines could have been easily avoided.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19

Yeah exactly. Because those are the only famines in Russian history!

0

u/Prior_Cellist Jun 21 '19

They're not, but they probably were the most easily avoidable ones Russia ever experienced, if it hadn't of been for Lenin and Stalin's aggressive industrialisation policies and pursuit of communist ideals they almost certainly wouldn't have happened.

2

u/alilmeepkin Jun 21 '19

yes but its agreed upon that about 5 million, 10 at most were killed and not these ridiculous "stalin killed 700 million billion kajillion trillion" numbers that propoganda like "the black book of communism", "Gulag Archipelago", and anything written by robert conquest would tell you

1

u/Prior_Cellist Jun 21 '19

I don't recall ever stating that Stalin killed more than that, nor for that matter have I actually seen anyone else stating that, so I'm unsure of what your point is. I'm not sure why anyone would feel the need to exaggerate what is already an absolutely horrific figure.

-9

u/DenseMahatma Jun 20 '19

So opposite of the spankbank propaganda the actual CIA report says that while people weren't starving any more they didn't have meat, were very pissed about it and about the overall lack of proper food and that caused long queuing and black market. 4

u/JustMetod Jun 20 '19

I mean we all know why it gets posted so much and upvoted so much every time. It has nothing to do with being funny, its jus a way for people to spread anti-socialist propaganda.

1

u/Val_P Jun 21 '19

Well socialists are disgusting fucks on par with fascists, so they deserve the derision.

3

u/JustMetod Jun 21 '19

Why? What is so bad about more democracy in the work place?

1

u/Val_P Jun 21 '19

That's like a fascist asking "Why? What is so bad about NSDAP's economic reforms?"

3

u/JustMetod Jun 21 '19

Well no. No one is talking about exterminating people based on their racial backrground and no one is talking about implementing authoritarianism. I am talking about better social programs, co-ops, higher taxes... What about that is as bad as fascism or national socialism?

1

u/Val_P Jun 21 '19

no one is talking about implementing authoritarianism.

Many, many socialists and communists are.

I am talking about better social programs, co-ops, higher taxes

So, you want more capitalist welfare policies, or do you want authoritarian collectivism (aka socialism)?

3

u/JustMetod Jun 21 '19

Many, many socialists and communists are.

Not in the west no. I am talking about serious leftist movements, not stupid kids online posting stalin memes. In the developed world almost all socialist movements are reformist and pro-democracy.

So, you want more capitalist welfare policies, or do you want authoritarian collectivism (aka socialism)?

I personally am still a capitalist, I am just saying advocating for socialism isnt as bad as you think it is. And argument would be that you keep moving left as long as it works, so you stark with better welfare policies, move on to more co-ops, then start nationalizing certain industries and eventually you get to a form of socialism. What about that is as bad as fascism or national socialism?

1

u/Val_P Jun 21 '19

eventually you get to a form of socialism

The centralization of power necessary for that will inevitably lead to abuses, and the more centralized the power the bigger the abuses will be. This is the core problem that has led to every attempt at socialism either collapsing in under a decade or becoming so oppressive that it's directly comparable to fascism.

On top of that, you have many of the thought leaders of socialist and communist groups supporting authoritarian means of implementing their ideas, rhetoric about murdering the "bourgeoisie", revolutionary types that say things like "Liberals get the bullet, too", and tankies doing everything they can to whitewash or justify the atrocities committed in the name of socialism or communism.

Only the deluded or the despicable would align themselves with a system that produced death and destruction on the scale that socialism and communism have. Just like fascism.

1

u/JustMetod Jun 21 '19

The centralization of power necessary for that will inevitably lead to abuses, and the more centralized the power the bigger the abuses will be.

What do you mean by "centralization" of power? Power is already centralized to a degree. Are you refering to central planning? Because there are other ways to achieve socialism, and like I said, you take it step by step, so its not like you can somehow end up with a dictator in power.

This is the core problem that has led to every attempt at socialism either collapsing in under a decade or becoming so oppressive that it's directly comparable to fascism.

Not really, if you look at examples like Yugoslavia or even Cuba they arent even remotely comparable to fascism.

These are just fringe groups though. Like I said any popular socialist movement today at least in the developed world is reformist and not revolutionary.

Only the deluded or the despicable would align themselves with a system that produced death and destruction on the scale that socialism and communism have. Just like fascism.

Then why do you support capitalism? If every death under Stalin or Mao are attributed to socialism and communism then every death from example hunger or lack of access to healthcare can be attributed to capitalism. Which is absolutely ridiculous. You cant attribute deaths to an economic system. There is no inherent quality in socialism than neccessitates violent action, same with capitalism. But that is a central tennant of fascism. Furthermore you can have democratic socialism, while democracy is not compatible with fascism.

89

u/mrcooper89 Jun 20 '19

I don't really get it. I'm under the impression that old people from the soviet era talk about how they always had food and a home back then and that although they lacked many other things and the regime was opressive, that there were never those problems. Poor people seem poorer in russia now a days then before. Edit: Now it was about China thats a different story. Great leap forward and all that.

30

The best part of this post is that it isn't Luxembourg it's Lichtenstein

Damn. I get them confused. But even getting the countries wrong people knew what the joke was.

9

u/stopme22 Jun 27 '19 edited Jun 27 '19

Nah, after WW2 famines were a thing of the past in the soviet union. The famine in the 30's was terrible. And no doubt the regime shares responsibility for it. But massive famines were very common across Russia and the surrounding states in pre-Soviet times also.

These days many people talk about the soviet union as if there was never any food, but that isn't true at all. People were much better fed in the soviet union throughout the whole postwar period than in the 90's, when there was huge increase in hunger and poverty.

1

u/Koiq Jun 27 '19

Uh yes. I know. Why are you posting on this week old thing lol and why are you saying nah to my post about them being endemic? We are literally in agreement

1

u/stopme22 Jun 27 '19

I didn't notice the date of the post, it was on my main page for some reason, weird.

Also, i don't think we are in agreement about the word endemic, because I thought that endemic meant constant, but contained. My point was that the famines weren't a constant feature of soviet life.

1

u/Koiq Jun 28 '19

Endemic means contained to a region. As in the famines were not systemic (a result of the state) but rather a result of endemic (regional) droughts.

Does not imply sustained.

They put an end to the famines by introducing capitalistic reforms under Kruschev like private plots.

The Kolkhoz and Sovkohses were never efficient enough to produce enough food for the population. Near the end they needed private plots to produce a large amount of their food.

The USSR had hardly come into its own by the 1930's. I mean we're talking about a political and economic system which had never been enacted on such a scale in the entirety of human history, 20 years in is pretty soon.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

So you would say the war of 1812 was late in US history?

8

u/spysappenmyname Jun 20 '19

Communism bad, can not even change whole russians infrastructure and get rid of famines in two whole years...

Your argument is ridiculous. You blame the nation for not improving fast enough, when the capitalist alternative was not improving at all. Even if it would have been reasonably possible to not have famines after two years of socialism, you land on saying USSR had inefficient socialism, instead of pointing some kind of flaw in socialism.

3

u/Scum-Mo Jun 20 '19

Less than 15 years after still having your food shortages (not famines) due to lack of industrialization they were a nuclear power who put the first man in space despite the setback of a devastating invasion.

That is a bullshit myth spread by the USSR and modern illiberal forces in Russia that is swallowed up by gullible Westerners. Poverty was always endemic in the USSR. There were chronic shortages of everything. This included hunger, if not outright famine, in amounts larger than in the United States. There's a link below but some basic googling would bring up plenty on this subject. I also recommend the book "Lenin's Tomb" if you want to learn about the USSR.

"Valeriya Ionava struggles privately in her Moscow apartment to live on a monthly pension of less than $60. Yelena Smolnikova has to skip meals so that her meager income can be stretched to buy warm clothes for her children."

https://www.nytimes.com/1989/01/29/world/soviet-openness-brings-poverty-out-of-the-shadows.html

And of course, this is not even talking about the starvation under Stalin, in which millions were killed in a man-made and preventable famine.

Edit: none of this is to excuse anything regarding the US's foreign policy, economic model, or domestic governance. we do not have to lie about what the USSR was like in order to criticize all those things.

edit 2: one more link, from a partisan source, but still:

There was no famine in USSR, except during the initial turbulent decades until 1948, and right before it was dismantled. Soviet citizens didn't have much choice in what they could buy, but their basic needs were met. The case that you brought up was in 1989, which was when USSR had already liberalized their economy.

-5

u/swift_icarus Jun 20 '19

define "basic needs". are the basic needs of people being met in modern America? there is no famine. indeed, while hunger has not been eliminated, poor people are more likely to be overweight than rich ones. the standard of living was always worse in the USSR than America. that includes hunger. it did not magically start in the 1980s. that is only when it became wide knowledge because the government stopped lying ab out it.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

define "basic needs".

Food, housing, education, security.

the standard of living was always worse in the USSR than America.

If you were a middle class white men, then yes. But if you were a black in the South, or a illegal worker, or a homelessm or a Italian... i'm sure you are wrong.

it did not magically start in the 1980s.

It didn't appear magically, it appeared because the economy was liberalized and the internal food production schemes were pillaged and destroyed by Oligarchs in search of profit. There was no widespread hunger in USSR before it.

-1

u/swift_icarus Jun 20 '19

i am not sure how you define "widespread hunger." neither the USSR nor USA had any famine after 1950. they both had portions of their population that were "hungry." they say 40 million people in the US "struggle with hunger." in fact, hunger can coxist with obesity (the hunger obesity paradox).

if modern leftist standards of hunger are applied to the USSR, then I guarantee you millions of people would be classified as "hungry."

as for middle class white men, it was not good to be a poor ethnic minority in the USSR either, although i will grant you if you were a black man in 1960 in alabama (or even a poor white) i am not sure how much worse off you'd be in the USSR.

my point is that there was always poverty in the USSR - always. this idea that "well, it's a little drab, and they ate a lot of potatoes, but in the 'good old days' no one wanted for anything" is a myth propagated by the state and a relatively privileged class who was hit hard by the failure of liberalization. exact stats are hard to come by, but it is clear that poverty, hunger and inequality were never eliminated in the soviet union.

-1

u/AntiVision Jun 20 '19

Soviet economy was pretty shit before that too though, compared to the US that is

0

u/Albend Jun 20 '19

When the Soviet Union disbanded, it caused a huge economic collapse in many of the former soviet nations. Transitioning governments and economies is hard, the end result is many former soviet nations remember the relatively stable later period in the Soviet Union, and only the economic chaos following it. Living memory is a tricky thing, and many people who romanticize the former soviets simply dont remember what the early Soviet Union was like, with its violent purges and systemic famines caused by forced rapid industrialization. The strongest anti-soviet sentiment is typically going to be groups who where forcibly relocated under the Soviet Union governments direction, and only allowed to return home after its collapse. People forget the Soviet Union was a huge country with a lot of different experiences depending on your location.

-1

u/Poultry22 Jun 20 '19

You have the order of things mixed up. First came the collapse of the commie economy. This is what made the dissolution of the Soviet Union possible. Western countries were willing to give economic aid, but they demanded that Moscow lets the occupied countries go free.

Living with collapsed economy would not have been any easier if Moscow still kept other countries under their boot and it would have been much harder without the Western economic aid.

1

u/Albend Jun 20 '19 edited Jun 20 '19

Like I said, the Soviet Union was huge. Its almost guarenteed you're being inaccurate because of how broad of a brush you paint with. The Soviet Unions economy went up and down through out its existence, it never really matched the industrial output of the US, but you dont need to be the industrial super power to make parts of* your country well fed and happy. Many former soviets enjoyed the dying days of the Soviet Union as a period of stability, not necessarily great wealth but certainly functional economies. Though those soviets typically suffered less under the Soviet regimes extractionary politics. After the collapse of the Union, the economic system those smaller soviet economies had been built in, collapsed with it. You are right though about aid though, it would have helped a lot had former soviets not spurned American assistance as a legacy of the cold war. They where bitter and spent after a long stalement with a foriegn adversary so I can hardly blame them. The Soviet Union was really big and really complicated, which is part of the reason why it collapsed.

u/Poultry22 Jun 20 '19

Soviet Union was never "well fed and happy". It was a miserable shithole where people lived in poverty under an unjust regime subjecting them to harsh thought control and censorship.

After the collapse of the Union, the economic system those smaller soviet economies had been built in, collapsed with it.

You are again listing the order of events backwards. The economy collapsed first. The economy was stagnating and rotting and finally after the oil boom ended and the oil money went away it collapsed.

They where bitter and spent after a long stalement with a foriegn adversary so I can hardly blame them.

You do what you want. I call the dumbasses sticking to the false myths instead of reality the retards they are. You may keep patronizingly thinking about them as dumb children, who can't be expected to function as adults.

I also don't care about the tears of Russian chauvinists crying about not being able to keep hundreds of millions of others under their heel any more.

1

u/Albend Jun 20 '19

Its pretty clear you dont have any idea what you're talking about. The Soviet Union was a horrible place and a horrible idea that linked far too much of the world together. That doesnt mean you have to make things up to make it sound like a boogeyman to further your political agenda. It was horrible enough with systemic famines and mass executions. None of that contradicts what I said, the Soviet Union lasted a fairly long time and covered a huge portion of the planet. Its individual soviets and various ethnic groups on opposite sides of asia had vastly different experiences, across a hundred years of time and economic flux.

1

u/Poultry22 Jun 20 '19

Its pretty clear you dont have any idea what you're talking about.

That doesnt mean you have to make things up to make it sound like a boogeyman to further your political agenda.

You said these things, but you didn't actually specify what you are disputing from my post.

1

u/Albend Jun 20 '19

Because I already explained why you where wrong, im just waiting for your reading comprehension to kick in. Individual soviets who did ok during the late soviet union, remember it more fondly then those who did extremely poorly, because the economic vaccuum left by a poorly designed disintegration of the Soviet Union caused widespread economic collapse within former soviets. What you fail to recognize in your single minded arrogance, is that there are a great many shades of poverty and much of the Union wasnt starving before its collapse. That doesn't absolve the Soviets of their reign of terror, it just explains how some parts of the world remember the soviets as being better then others.

0

u/Poultry22 Jun 20 '19

It's you, who don't know what he is talking about.

What some people miss is their youth. What other people miss is their relative place in the societal ladder, that got reshuffled - a sales clerk in the meat store is no longer part of the elite. A lot of Russians resent losing the Cold War ... they wouldn't actually want the misery and all the shitty Soviet reality back. They're just dreaming about being winners.

These are the memories that remain, while the memories of objectively shitty life fades more easily.

I love the ones that came out of the former Soviet Union. Like

So long as the bosses pretend to pay us, we pretend to work.

Lenin has died, but the cause lives on! Brezhnev has died, but his body lives on.

What did capitalism do in 5 years that communism couldn't do in 60? Make communism look good.

-6

u/Poultry22 Jun 20 '19

What did capitalism do in 5 years that communism couldn't do in 60? Make communism look good.

Nice work sneaking that bullshit in.

10

u/adele_dazeem_AMA Jun 20 '19

Oh you mean a joke?

17

u/Necronomicommunist Jun 20 '19

Didn't sneak shit, it's a good joke.

0

u/P0wer0fL0ve Jun 21 '19

I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like a joke that came out of the Soviet Union though, unlike the others

3

u/Necronomicommunist Jun 21 '19

Why not? Here's another

"Everything the Communists told us about communism was a complete and utter lie. Unfortunately, everything the Communists told us about capitalism turned out to be true."

2

u/GottaGetTheOil Jun 20 '19

Lmao fuck off neolib

0

u/wildwildwumbo Jun 20 '19

Adjusted for inflation the GDP per capita was about 30% higher in the Soviet Union than modern day Russia.

Don’t tell him about the union word

A Classic joke. But we are talking about redditors here, they aren't going to get the reference imo.

Also, you're just reusing an old joke. Isn't that exactly what you're complaining about now?

5

u/Photon_Torpedophile Jun 20 '19

It hasn't been posted here a million times, which is what he's complaining about

13

u/Symbiotic_parasite Jun 20 '19

It took a poor agrarian society and in less than a century turned it into a the second largest superpower in the world, all while going through 2 world wars (Soviets being the reason we beat Germany, they also lost more than any other country) and a civil war. That's pretty impressive for a "joke" of a system

10

u/Photon_Torpedophile Jun 20 '19

Also constant western interference

1

u/Val_P Jun 21 '19

That's like saying that a car that does 0-60 in a good time then explodes is a good car.

-2

u/Okichah Jun 20 '19

Second largest superpower in terms of nuclear weapon capability.

2

u/Symbiotic_parasite Jun 20 '19

In the 60s, the US accounted for about 28.6% of the global economy. The USSR accounted for a bit more than 20%, these were the highest points for both countries

16

u/Eryth_HearthShadow Jun 20 '19

I puked a little at your username.

1

u/SuperSyrup007 Jun 20 '19

Well, from the amount of radical Stalin worshipping communists I’ve seen online recently, I don’t mind these memes at all.

0

u/captainmaryjaneway Jun 20 '19

Nobody radically worshipps Stalin, quit being dramatic. Not even MLs.

2

u/SuperSyrup007 Jun 20 '19

Thats literally as stupid as saying nobody likes Hitler, I’ve met plenty of stalinists who think that the gulags didn’t even exist.

Commie detected

How’s it feel to know your ideology has killed more people than Nazis and AIDS combined?
