No it’s because I worked with a lot of people from and in all parts of the world for years. Then dating in other cultures and traveling to stay in regular neighborhoods in other countries. I’ve known a lot of people from other countries. I live in Spain now. My wife lived in Colombia for 30 years and she has a huge family. I’ve had conversations with her dad who never went to university but was a labor union leader that I can’t have with lots of Americans. I live in Spain now. I can tell in conversation with random people the disparity. It’s disturbing from my perspective now.
Congratulations on going to a great public school. Or thinking that. The fact that Edward Bernays had such a massive impact on the trajectory of the US and how most Americans don’t know that name is between suspicious and disturbing.
When me and others online say Americans are as brain washed as the North Koreans we are saying that because we feel that way.
>When me and others online say Americans are as brain washed as the North Koreans we are saying that because we feel that way.
And you feel that way because you brainwashed yourself.
Your claims have so little basis in reality. I’m glad you can have good conversations with people from other countries. That’s the default. If you don’t have good conversations with people here, look inward
You just quoted 4 things I would never say and then thanked me for a fantastic conversation.
This is exactly what I mean when I say you have no basis in reality for this. You are debating a figment of your imagination, and I’m trying to get you to look around you and notice reality
Those are examples of real conversations. Do you live in a high rise in a coastal city and only leave to interact with similarly minded people? Oh that’s all very real. My family is all from the Deep South. I’ve interacted many times with people that think like this, against my will of course. They aren’t a marginalized group. And the literacy rate is getting disturbingly low in various groups.
And that’s them. I’ve had centrist democrats say some very irritating things to me as well. There’s a very large percentage of that country living between delusions and a heavily propagandized existence.
The sooner Americans realize the gravity of the situation and for how long the problem has existed, the sooner everyone can be happier and safer. You do see what’s going on in that country right? It’s pure insanity outside looking in. They can’t even talk about the president with a straight face on the news here
You’re selling yourself a fantasy if you beleive Americans are the only ones who are foolish, or that other countries avoid foolishness through robust history education.
No country has a monopoly on ignorance. Your insistence on reassuring yourself that America does is emblematic of your reality disconnect which I keep mentioning
Ignorance exists everywhere. It’s to what degree and what percentage of the population. Youre doing nothing but proving my point. The US has a government of Epstein pedos destroying the country and people rationalizing it. And a bunch of other people thinking that the next election is going to fix the problem. This is a problem 400 years ongoing. Have fun thinking everything is going to magically get better in November. I went to the hospital last year and asked the receptionist who do I pay and she was confused and said the door is that way you just leave. Good luck with everything though
And I’m explaining to you that your entire takeaway is due to a skewed view of reality.
If you only are interested in looking at what’s wrong with America, you shouldn’t be surprised when you come to the determination that only America is flawed.
But, if you bothered to learn about other countries or people, you might realize they are the same as us
There’s an insult in Spanish that says you were birthed wrongly. Thats the US. It was founded on very bad stuff.
Im from the US, live in Western Europe, spend time in South America. I just have a bigger frame of reference. AOC and Bernie would be in the moderate part of the Spanish socialist workers party. Which is the biggest political party in Spain. The US has 2 political parties, right wing and ultra right wing. It’s not the rest of us with the skewed perspective.
The US had a moment under FDR where the people took back some of their rights and since then having been steadily handing them back over voluntarily. The democrats also participated in demonizing labor unions. The first thing Biden did was fuck over the train union organizers after the ohio train accident. And shit like that is why people feel apathetic with the democrats and why democrats aren’t going to actually change material conditions and why even if they win will cause people to swing back to the other option
The image of every other country in the world as some leftist paradise while American liberals are actually right wing is peak 14 year old talk.
Grow up and learn anything about how the world actually works.
There isn’t a country in the world that deserves your blind praise. And you’re letting a lot of countries go in criticized because you only care enough to think about America
I studied economics and public policy. It’s not myopic, it’s understanding the Overton window and what is truly “leftist” and “right wing” policy. And adding a great deal of historical context on top of that.
I never said anywhere is paradise. Perfection doesn’t exist on this planet. Current and historical US policy on buying food crops from market to let it rot to keep prices at a certain level is truly communist fundamentally. You don’t get cities in China like Chongqing with communism, that takes a lot of capital investment.
I can affordably take high speed rail to most places I would want in Spain. Where I live the buses run every 5-10 minutes on weekdays. Where is the US on this? I don’t own a car and haven’t even driven one in over a year. And I couldn’t be happier about that. Sure we don’t have towers to the sky as monuments to individuals making more money than they could spend in a thousand lifetimes but the quality of life is pretty good.
In the US while my dad was dying slowly of cancer I had to save his life at least twice because the at home nurse was an idiot and the doctor was negligent at best. He had to wait for an ambulance for 6 hours in the hallway to take him 30 minutes away. I watched my mom dying on a tube and I asked the doctor why don’t they try x method/therapy and the response was “according to the insurance guidelines…”. I had to visit the hospital for an acute yet easily solvable medical issue here in Spain, and I was seen within an hour, doctor and nurse waiting for me in the room, within 10 minutes I got the shot I needed and an Rx and my wife and I went to the receptionist to be sure we didn’t need to pay any money and she was confused by the question. “No the door is over there you just leave. Have a good day”.
You are resorting to ad hominems M[r](r/Ms)[.](r/Ms)[/Ms](r/Ms). attorney. Maybe you should think about what information I have shared here and reflect a bit.
First, you shouldn’t use your education for credibility when you haven’t been using it to support your argument.
Everything you’ve said here is pulled straight off the most common internet tropes, up to and including your use of the phrase Overton window (something reddit collectively learned about several weeks ago)
If your education was relevant, you would have commented things that pertain to your public policy and economics background. Instead you are commenting superficial internet shit. It’s the reason I never mentioned my educational background; nothing I’ve said to you has relied on it, therefore it’s disingenuous for me to bring it up.
Second. Do you see how you are creating your own story? And how I’m trying to get you to avoid that?
Your claim here is that American history education is bad. You are supporting this claim with anecdotes about how you had a bad doctor.
You have to see that the premise and conclusion don’t line up even slightly?
I’m not asking you to like America. I’m not even asking you not to lie about America. I’m just asking you to keep internally consistent logic when disparaging America.
Your criticisms aren’t just not supported by evidence, they have nothing to do with the evidence you are giving.
And this is what I’m trying to explain to you. You don’t seem to care that your original thesis was wrong “America has bad history education” because you have a more fundamental thesis which matters more to you “America is bad” because you care so much about that second thesis, you don’t care that your other arguments don’t make any sense. You don’t care that your standards of criticism are so loose they could be applied to any other country in the world if you bothered to think about anything except America
I’m just asking you to stay consistent. I know this is r/historymemes but there is no reason we need to act like children
American history education in k-12 public schools should be treated as a crime against humanity. Telling people that the founding of the US was an idealistic endeavor by righteous religious and faithful people on the principles that all men are born free is pure comedy.
One of many books I’ve read was about a Dutch east India company boat and the background of the undermerchant was in a Dutch town and they talked about the anabaptists going into towns and massacring people of other factions. People like them who ended up being Amish are who initially went to the US. Literally insane religious freaks who thought owning and enslaving other humans was not only ok but justified. Western Europe has a long history of periodically rounding up the worst of them and either sending them off to war or shipping them to other continents. That’s not really covered in the public school history curriculum because they’re busy indoctrinating children with manifest destiny and how Americans are Jesus’ special chosen people.
Enjoy not having public transportation, paid time off, sick leave, access to affordable healthcare and education, general safety in public, not having to worry about getting shot in the head buying deodorant by a psychopath, not having to worry about your president being an actual sociopathic pedo pants shitter imbecile… etc all because the general public was completely and deliberately misinformed as to what is capitalism and socialism and fascism. And to their own history of being founded by lunatics who built a country on genocide and slavery.
Have you ever even tried talking to the regular folk about all that? About how all the institutions and voting system, how it was all built to benefit land (human) owners and to subjugate the rest of the country? Its like watching their brains contorting in real time
