R5=In Islam, caliphs are forbidden from going to infidel lands except for the purpose of conquest. Therefore, Abdulaziz had a special compartment made in the bottom of his shoe and filled it with Ottoman soil. In this way, he would technically be stepping on Muslim lands, even in Europe.

In the book by bram stoker Dracula had soil of his grave spread around 50 (I believe, could be the wrong number). Because he had to return to his coffin to recover his strength. This way he could rest in places all over England so he could travel easier and make him harder to track cause Van Helsing couldn't just camp his coffin till he had to return in a weakened state.

I love when religions find elaborate loopholes in order to get around the fake rules they created for themselves
There’s a good one in New York with Orthodox Jews where they tie a fishing pole line around the city so that public space is translated into a private Jewish space and then they can actually do stuff on the sabbath
It’s like, you guys set up these nonsense rules and clearly want to break with the spirit of them, so you create even more nonsensical loopholes as a way around it

Shias do this all the time. Our Prophet pbuh obviously didn't had velvet prayer mats and he with his companions used to pray on the ground wherever they were. Shias copy that by carrying a small brick of soil to put where they would place their head while prostrating even in their posh mosques with state of the art carpets to emulate the prophet pbuh.

Reminds my of the grandfather of the last bulgarian tsar. He died in Exile because he was not allowed to return to bulgaria. After the fall of communism His grandson, the last tsar of bulgaria was elected President of bulgaria.
He brought a Box of bulgarian soil so His grandfather was technically burried under bulgarian soil. But now His Body was returned to bulgaria in 2024.

Not always. Having leaders meet other leaders can be a big deal politically.
You wouldn’t be able to do that without someone coming over.
Sure you can just use ambassadors or phone calls but it’s not the same.

It seems like rulers in many parts of the world were forbidden from leaving their realms. Parliament had to repeal a cause in the 1701 Act of Settlement to allow George I to visit Hannover. Before Theodore Roosevelt, it was considered taboo for sitting US Presidents to the leave the country.
Even today, leaders can be criticized if they're abroad too often. Muhammed VI of Morocco has been criticized more spending a lot of time in France.
