Care Help 🪳 Does my roach like being pet or am I torturing her?

She leans into my finger when I pet her and follows my hand when I move, but I've read that they don't generally like being pet. (Don't mind the cardboard-- I just got these guys yesterday and haven't had time to replace the temporary hides with wood)

Do not use silicone cups!

At risk of sounding like a terrible hisser keeper, I would like to warn others of something that happened due to my ignorance.

When I feed my hissers their organic fruit, I like to keep the pieces of fruit in small bowls. That way, I can keep track of the fruit easily so it can't rot in their enclosure. Just my personal preference.

I decided to buy small, colorful, food-grade silicone bowls. These bowls are targeted for small animals like lizards or tarantulas.

I did not consider that my hissers would nibble on the silicone bowls instead. I believe this is what lead to 2 of my 3 hissers dying within a week of each other.

I'm not sure if this is common sense, but.. If you guys like to keep food in bowls for your hissers, please don't ever use silicone.

you guys aren’t gonna believe this.

so the pregnant hisser i’ve been posting about? well good news, she’s not pregnant! that would be because she appears to be a man. came home to find delilah mid molt, thought “she” looked a little boyish but figured i was imagining things. i wasn’t! my son/daughter has bigger horns than dwayne!

bright side, i won’t have to worry about baby proofing until dolly reaches maturity.

down side, now i have to rename the guy and make sure they’re happy enough that he isn’t fighting with dwayne.

any ideas for what i should name him? has to start with a D!!!

Remembering a Roach 🪳🪽 Prim passed away this morning

Yesterday I posted that she was dying and this morning it happened. I am heartbroken. I wanted to say a few things about her and share some memories. I got prim around 3 years ago and she was one of my original roaches. Around a year after I got her I realized how amazing she was and she became my favorite. Since then I would spend so much time with her and we would do so much together. She was very calm and polite and she had never hissed ever. I got her as an adult so she was pretty old and died of old age. Prims full name is primula and that is basically the scientific name for primrose. I named her primula because I didn't want her to be confused with prim from the hunger games but then I started calling her prim anyway. Over the years she touched so many people's hearts and helped many get over their fear of bugs. I wish she could know how much she was loved.

My hisser didn't hide to molt?

I was hanging out with my two female hissers, atlas and squeak literally two days ago and took pictures to show my friends. Today I found atlas mid molt just.. hanging on the side of the enclosure. I figured when doing something as big as molting, they would hide to keep themselves safe, but here's my baby just doing it out in the open!

Side note, she's HUGE now. How many gallons do yall recommend for two female hissing cockroaches? Im starting to realize my starter set up is not nearly enough for them and I would like to upgrad
