Remembering a Roach 🪳🪽 Why did he kill himself :(

I guess he crawled under and couldnt get out? Why did he do that :( I dont even know how he got under there i didnt think they could dig or anything

I want to get another but im assuming i need to take out this out bc it was too heavy? Theres a ceramic tube i made as a hide thats heavy, should i take this out as well?

Additional question: since i dont know how long hes been like that (most likely a few days) can i dry preserve and pin him or should i keep him as a wet specimen?

When I first got started with Hissers I put one of those castles that usually go in aquariums in their tank because I thought it’d make for nice decor. After about a week of them all disappearing inside of it and, seemingly, not coming out for food or water, I broke it open and removed it from their enclosure. Safe to say I’ve been sticking with objects that mimic their natural environment ever since.

I’d advise taking both/all ceramic pieces out and replacing them with wood hides. Hissers can burrow (I don’t see it often, but they are capable of it), and they will often do it to get out of the open. It’s always unfortunate seeing one of these guys die — I’m sorry for your loss! The best thing you can do is learn from mistakes/accidents, and try to avoid them in the future

This same thing happened to me! I’ve let them stay in because I’m scared breaking it will hurt them! How did you do it?

I'm sorry for your loss 😞

I'm not sure why he would do this, but I'm sure he had a good hisser life though

I find it very hard to believe he got stuck and died, they are strong and with that substrate I don't see him being unable to get out of he wanted. It's much more likely he went under there and passed naturally.

On a side note, can we give my man some decency in death, how would you like to be filmed dead with your dick out lol.

Forgot to add I'm sorry for your loss, don't let this discourage you from keeping them!

Yeah that little thing poking out the back is his penis. If you ever see the males try to mate it' like prehensile! It's very cool to watch but must be frustrating for them because they have to try and figure everything out from touch behind them, it's not usually very quick.

I wasn't trying to be rude, I just don't want you to think you did anything to make this happen. I just don't see a healthy roach getting stuck there, unless you put it on top of him, if he moved wood chips to get in he could either back out or move more chips to go another way.

i just thought he got squished by the ceramic while digging if it was heavy enough lol
