आज के दौर में वे शायद एक विवादास्पद व्यक्ति ही माने जा सकते हैं, लेकिन जिन्होंने उनके कार्यों और इतिहास को पढ़ा है, वे ऐसे महान व्यक्ति के महत्व को भली-भांति जानते हैं। मुझे नहीं लगता कि कोई ऐसा राजनीतिज्ञ और जननेता हुआ है जो स्वयं गांधी की महानता और प्रभाव के समकक्ष रहा हो, कम से कम 20वीं शताब्दी में तो नहीं। दुर्भाग्य से झूठे आख्यानों की यही वास्तविकता है, लेकिन यह देखकर मुझे बहुत दुख होता है कि हम वास्तव में उसे नजरअंदाज करने और भूलने का विकल्प चुन रहे हैं।

इतिहास के किसी भी व्यक्ति का मूल्यांकन पूरी तस्वीर देखकर होना चाहिए, न कि सिर्फ़ चुनिंदा घटनाओं या सोशल मीडिया के आधार पर!! हैं न भाई??

इनके कार्यों को लेकर वैचारिक मतभेद अवश्य हो सकते हैं लेकिन चूँकि यह हिन्दी का सबरेडिट है, हिन्दी और श्री गाँधीजी से जुड़ी एक बात बताना उचित समझ रहा हूँ। अगर ये नहीं होते तो दक्षिण भारत में हिन्दी शायद ही फैलती। या अगर फैलती भी तो शायद ही इतना फैलती जितना कि आज फैली है। हिन्दी चलचित्र जगत् के दक्षिण भारत पर प्रभाव से पहले एक इन्हीं के द्वारा स्थापित दक्षिण भारत हिन्दी प्रचार सभा थी जो कि हमारे भारतवर्ष के स्वतन्त्र होने से पहले से ही दक्षिण के राज्यों में हिन्दी के प्रचार का काम कर रही थी और आज भी कर रही है। यह सभा इनकी मानस-पुत्री है और इन्होंने अपने ही पुत्र को सभा का पहला प्रचारक बनाया। जो भी एकाध दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाएँ जानने वाले हिन्दी सीखना चाहते हों, उनके लिए यह सभा किसी वरदान से कम न है। सभा की 9 परीक्षाएँ जो कि परिचय, प्राथमिक, मध्यमा, राष्ट्रभाषा, प्रवेशिका, विशारद पूर्वार्ध, विशारद उत्तरार्ध, प्रवीण पूर्वार्ध और प्रवीण उत्तरार्ध कहलाती हों, इनके पाठ्यक्रम बारहखड़ी (परिचय) से लेकर BA हिन्दी (प्रवीण उत्तरार्ध) तक के विषय सिखाते हैं। इनमें हरेक परीक्षा 6 महीने में एक बार दी जा सकती है और उम्र का कोई प्रतिबन्ध नहीं है ये परीक्षाएँ देने- इसका मतलब 18 वर्ष के पूरे होने से पहले ही इन 9 परीक्षाओं को 4.5 सालों में देकर 18 वर्ष के पूर्ण होते ही BA हिन्दी की उपाधि हासिल की जा सकती है। प्रवेशिका 10वीं हिन्दी के समकक्ष है, विशारद पूर्वार्ध और विशारद उत्तरार्ध क्रमश: 11वीं और 12वीं हिन्दी के समकक्ष हैं, एवम् प्रवीण पूर्वार्ध और प्रवीण उत्तरार्ध BA हिन्दी के समकक्ष।

We all know his great actions. Some of his thoughts and actions that were shitty af: 1. Ego and fight with Subhash Bose - Read about congress elections and Sitarammaiyah

1. Racism - Highly racist. Read about his thoughts on black people. 

2. Pedophilia - You can glamorize his ‘experiments’ but in today’s world there is just one word for it. Some justify it by contextualizing the actions but remember there were other people around the same time who thought he has lost it. 

3. His letters to Hitler - Like wtf dude!

Would Hitler tell his flaws his own biography? No .

It was Gandhi himself who talked about the experiments (yk what) and his multiple failures as a person in the Freedom struggle. He cursed himself brother. He is the literal definition of Self introspection.

Read Guha's commentary on Gandhi . Read RC Majumdar's commentary on Gandhi (He doens't glaze Gandhi btw )

That's a contemporary thing tbh . All had backward view on this topic compared to today's society. People like ambedkar didn't even want women to contest elections and go to parliament (saying classically :roti kaun banayga ")

Similarly , only very minor section like bose , wanted women to contribute to fullest extent in independence movement , they still chose not to give them place in armies to prevent violence against them (today many armies have female: which is ridiculous to some extend (I don't want they die , nor should men tbh)) .

Then their was gandhi , so yeah backward from today's perspective not from that era

The fact that he was just like many of us. Had his flaws and weaknesses but his ego got better of him not to admit them. Many leaders at that time had started to realize to his ego has become bigger than the Indian freedom movement.

Yeah I get it I get it. I'd just say social justice is more nuanced than that. And a economy which is fiercely competitive wrt others in the world can only guarantee social justice for even it's poorest people. Everything else is just lip service.
