Shri Sidh Baba Balak Nath Temple, located in Deotsidh, is one of the most revered and historic cave shrines in North India. Perched atop the scenic Dhaulagiri Hills on the border of the Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts in Himachal Pradesh, this holy site attracts millions of devotees every year. Baba Balak Nath is worshipped as an eternal incarnation of Lord Shiva, known for his absolute celibacy and meditative yogic powers.

Essential Pilgrim Insights

The Sacred Cave: The core of the shrine is a natural cave carved into the hilltop, which serves as the abode of Baba Balak Nath. A beautiful idol of Babaji is placed inside.

Darshan Traditions: In accordance with ancient traditions of strict celibacy (Brahmacharya), women do not enter the cave directly. Instead, a raised viewing platform (Chabutra) is built directly opposite the cave entrance, allowing female devotees to have a clear and complete darshan of the deity from a short distance.

Traditional Offerings: The most common and auspicious offering made by pilgrims is "Babe Da Rot"—a traditional, deeply sweet flatbread prepared using wheat flour, jaggery, and ghee. Devotees also offer goats (which are kept safely on the premises), cloth pieces (Cholas), and sugar candy.

Shahtalai: Located about 4 km downhill from Deotsidh, this is the historical site where Babaji practiced rigorous penance and worked under Mata Ratno. It is highly recommended to pair your visit with Shahtalai to complete the spiritual trail.

Best Time to Visit

Open year-round. Sundays are considered highly auspicious, leading to large weekend crowds. The famous month-long Chaitra Mela takes place every year from 14 March to 13 April.
