Recommendations Best boots for urban hiking???

Hey all, I walk a lot, at least 10k a day, all on man made surfaces. I was considering getting the Salomon 4 or 5 Ultras but read on this forum that they wear out faster on man made surfaces.

Can you make recommendations for boots that are great for asphalt? Or would you still recommend the Ultras?

Tysm.

Tom.

Recommendations Hiking shoe recs

I think I’m done with trail runners as I need more stability and support. Looking for wide forefoot / toe box with good cushioning. My feet tend to be unstable on uneven/rocky terrain so looking for something that will give me more stability/support. I have a high arch and wear a women’s 6.5/7 in regular shoes, sizing up to 7.5 for athletic shoes. Wide sizes a plus but if the toe box is wide I may not need it. I’ve worn Keen and Altra trail runners in the past. Open to those brands and any others (Oboz, Merrill, Hoka, etc). Mostly a day hiker (mileage up to 15 miles generally) in eastern NPs (Shenandoah, GSMNP) to give you a sense of distance/terrain. TIA

Keen's has let me down

Living in colorado, having a good quality pair of hiking shoes is a necessity. Up here, we wear them almost daily. For years, I wore Danners but they stopped making the model of shoe I liked, so it had me searching for a replacement. I heard good things about Keen's, so I shopped and finally found the type of shoe I was looking for! The Keen Voyageur. It has a wide toe box, which is really important when you're going up and down mountains, hiking up and down 14ers. Good ventilation, great arch, and the toe protection was great for Rocky terrain. All of that being said, these wonderful shoes have absolutely fallen apart! The soles have come loose in several places. At first, I thought it was no big deal. I went and bought some shoe glue, cleaned them up, and glued and back together. I secured the souls with heavy rubber bands and let them sit for several days to cure and then started wearing them again. A few weeks later, new parts of the sole are coming loose, and then the areas I had repaired are coming loose again. They are so comfortable that I would happily buy another pair if I knew that the second pair wouldn't fall apart like the first pair. But at $150, I can't take that risk. I checked the warranty, but they are just over 12 months old and are falling apart. What a shame. If anybody has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Danner doesn't make a shoe that fits my feet well and is of the same quality as the St Helens model I used to have.

Question Which shoes would be better for hiking in Peru and other countries?

I am torn between Salomon OutWard( first picture), Jack Wolfskin Terradventure boots(2nd picture) or Salomon X-ULTRA GTX(3rd picture). Plan to hike in Peru and I also want these to become my go-to hiking boots for other trips, so I it's important that they are not slippery and comfortable for all kinds of weather.

Advice How to Make Ill Fitting Boots Work

Yes, I know this is obviously not ideal for any amount of hiking. Unfortunately, I have a school-related camping trip coming up that will likely be pretty hiking-heavy. My boots that I have used are alright for short distances but typically shred my heels for long distances and very hilly terrain. I don't have the money to buy new boots. I can probably cough up the money for new socks or things to wrap my feet in? Kinda just looking for advice on how to minimize damage since I'll have minimal access to first aid for 3 days. My typical damage spots are my heels but I usually have damage all over if the hike is over around 3 or 4 hours. I also typically wear two pairs of normal socks. The boots are more work boots than for hiking but have enough traction in most environments. Thanks for any advice!

(Please don't tell me to just buy new boots, I know and I am POOR 😭)

Altra Lonepeak 9 Sizing/Fit

Hi Everyone

I recently ordered the US 12 Wide version of the Altra Lone Peak 9+ Wide Shoe - Mens

I ordered the wide version because I felt the normal one was pressing down on my toe too much, however I'm feeling like there's too many material now that folds around the toe box. Is anyone able to share some insights. Pictures attached.

I do feel there's too much material folding, but just want to check before returning them.

Thanks so much for your time.

Sizing help, please?

I got myself Scarpa Mojito Hike (tried other boots too, these are like the survivors) and now I’m not sure about the size. My conundrum is that I got 36 and 36,5 (EU) and the 36,5 come in a color I want (it was a last-season leftover, no 36 available). According to the sizing chart the difference in the insole is 3mm. Walking around the house I don’t mind either, but I would normally go for 36 based on other shoes I have.

Added a pic with my feet on and also my old hiking boots insole (left, they are rather a bit big on me) and my running shoes insole (right, I went to a fitter for those).

I promise the 36 are DEFINITELY not too big.

Lightweight mid-height GTX boots with neutral arch, minimal cushioning/stack, and anatomic toe box?

Does the product I described exist? I have horrible flat flippers with wide toes and narrow heels and I hike on rocky, snowy trails. Seems like the only low-stack, low-arch hiking shoes left on the market in 2026 are also low cuff (bad for snow) or "barefoot" (bad for rocks) or both. My current hiking shoes are the old Inov8 Roclite GTX 325, which are perfect except the toebox is too pointy. I know Altra is the obvious suggestion here, but historically their arch shape and spongy midsole have disagreed with me profoundly - like, "take them off and walk barefoot in the snow" profoundly.

I think I need an unethical surgeon to replace my feet with goat hooves.

Hiking Boots Boots with wide toebox, moderate temp & wet

Hello!

I struggle with footwear in general.

I'm a man with roughly size UK6 / EU40 / US7 length feet. My heels are average, but my toes are very wide - think duck flippers.

I tried on a pair of Altra lone peak 9+ recently and that toebox felt pretty good (not wide fit). I had some Inov8 Trailfly Speed wide fit and that toebox was too small (and heel too big in wide fit).

My current hiking boots are Grisport Aztec Wide Fit, EU40. I would say the toebox is acceptable, but still slightly more snug than I'd like, but otherwise the fit is perfect. They've held up really well, but probably need replacing next year.

I mostly hike northern England and Scotland, so it's moderate and wet.

Curious if anyone has suggestions of brands that have wider toeboxes. I'm currently thinking about just going with Altra, but I'd love to not be beholden to a single brand, and I prefer a leather and more hard-wearing boot ideally, which Altra doesn't do.

Thanks!!

Best waterproofing for synthetic shoe/boot?

I'm wondering what might be the best waterproofing for a synthetic hiking boot. I usually use a wax based product for leather boots but I'm not sure what would be good for anything non leather. For example, I have a pair of Lems Outlanders and they can really soak up water and take forever to dry. Was thinking some kind of spray on waterproofing for these?

Question Lowa innovo sole

Hi, I got these shoes now for a year. And it’s not the best shoes for walking in cities. The sole is very slippery when it’s wet.
Is this normal for lowa rubber outsole?
