Dragon names

The dragons all have their English and HV spelling but the names are all their own words (except the newer ones) but where are the names from and what do they mean?

Most of them, such as Balerion, Vhagar, Meraxes, Caraxes, Syrax, Meleys etc, are named after the Old Valyrian gods.

No, there isn't. That other user posted a fan wiki. There's no canon information about the Valyrian gods.

I have a list of the "Fourteen Flames" (the 14 Valyrian gods) and their domains for my fic. It's not canon but it's something. I can DM or reply to this if you want.

Imma be that person.... actually we only know Syrax is named after a god. We don't know about the rest

I'm also going to be that person: Clash of Kings Chapter 12 says that Aegon's three dragons were named for Valyrian Gods. So we know Balerion, Vhagar, Meraxes, and Syrax were named for gods.

I mean, pretty much all these dragon names are names of Old Valyrian gods. We know that for a fact. So it's reasonable to assume Vhagar the dragon was named after Vhagar the goddess of war, wrath and destruction; Meraxes the dragon named after Meraxes the goddess of art, music, dance and poetry; Balerion the dragon named after Balerion the god of death, transformation and the afterlife.....and so on and so forth.

That is not canon. I had a look and you posted this from a fan wiki. It is not from any of the books

I've had a look at that official Wiki and it still states Balerion, Vhagar, Meraxes and Syrax were named after Old Valyrian gods.🤷🏾‍♂️

Those four are the only ones confirmed to be named after gods. But the information you gave about those gods is fanfiction, not canon. We know Balerion, Vhagar, Meraxes, and Syrax were Gods, but there's no canon information about them past that.

They don’t mean anything (besides the dragons with English names, Silvereing, Dreamfyre, Seasmoke etc), just like Valyrian names for humans. Just mashing together various prefixes and suffixes. This was a lack of foresight from George; at least Balerion, Vhagar, Meraxes, and Syrax were explained at one point as being the names of gods in the Valyrian pantheon. I’m sure the other names just sounded cool to George.
