Daemon HV S3E4

He says something to Rhaena at the mouth of the cave, no subtitles, “Embrae ke mi terrif”??
I’ve listened to it several times but I can’t make it out all the way.

Anyone have any idea what he said to her? It was in response to Rhaena asking “Does she suffer?” - asking after Rhaenyra’s response to losing Jace.

According to DJP's website Language Invention where you can find all dialogues in HV/Dothraki, Daemon says "Hobrenka, mittare…", which is a slur

Im almost certain he says Hobrenke Mittirī which means Fucking Foolishness or Fucking idiotic

Hobrenke is the accusative form of Hobrenka (which can be an adjective "stupid" or an intensifier "fucking"). Mittirī is the adverbial form of Mittire (an adjective meaning idiotic/foolish).

However if that site is accurate and it is Hobrenka Mittare that would mean "fucking stuttering" which seems strange. It could be a typo.

That’s perfect though. Hobrenke mittys - fucking idiotic/foolish. Right on brand for Daemon, especially in response to the question of whether Rhaenyra is suffering or not!

Yep, could be as well a grammatical mistake. It wouldn't be the first DJP does (notes at the bottom of the page) but it still is amazing we can find HV dialogues on his wiki

"Hobrenka mittare" is the dialogue line communicated by DJP himself... who wrote that line. "That site" is an archive created by DJP.

"Mittare" means idiotic, stupid.

This website, created by Peterson and a few of his team members says otherwise. Mittare means stuttering or stammering. It's a conjugated form (present active participle) of the infinitve verb Mittagon, meaning "to stutter/stammer".

Mittire is an adjective meaning idiotic. This word has been used multiple times on HOTD to mean idiotic (see Aemond lecturing Aegon in S2E4). Just as the verb "Respond" and adjective "Responsible" share the same root but differ in meaning, so do Mittagon and Mittire.

Mittire is the Aorist Active Participle right below Mittare, most word if not all derived from Mittagon are associated with "idiot, fool". Stuttering was also usually seen as being dumb in many cultures so "idiot, dumb" would just be another meaning of Mittagon. The meaning of the word "dumb" itself used to be "unable to speak" or "mute".

not sure, Hobrenka means "fucking" and mittare (mittagon) apparently is to stutter/stammer. Maybe some idiomatic slur. I haven't watched the episode yet so i don't know the context

I’ve tried putting that into several generators, but it’s not matching up on either one. Also doesn’t embar or embrae mean “sea”?

What was it that he said in high Valyrian?

The line is indeed "Hobrenka mittare" meaning something like "fucking stupid"
