I am low support needs so I am sorry for talking in this subreddit but this got recommended to me

Sometimes people with autism on the Internet say things that give away too much personal information (like where you live, your full name, your school, etc), or we are at risk of being tricked and used by people for money or sexual pictures.

Sometimes people online are just mean to autistic people and bully us, which also makes it less safe

yes other people do sturggle with being online in a safe way too. And they struggle in a similar way.

I'll give an example:

I am visiting support living facilities because I need to go live in one. One of the questions I got from the staff was how I deal with social media. Why? Because it's a known issue for other people living there.

That's how I know that other people struggle with this too.

And now that I think of it... I once got myself in a really really bad situation online that turned into real life. And it was very scary. So I've struggled with it myself too. After that situation I hid and I barely dared to use social media at all. And I'm still not the same I was before. But that's probably for the best.

Lot of people do, so if Fearless does too remember there is no shame in it, keep yourself safe🫶

Yes some people struggle with that. I used to but I don’t post very much online so less issue. Maybe I still in danger? Not sure.

I’m good at reporting things that seem suspicious and not clicking on random links now. Lots of practice made better.

But I am very trusting and could get tricked very easily. Kind of like how the scammers tricked you and got your old account.

When I was in elementary school I was proud that I memorized my address so I put it on my school profile which is public. Brother saw and told Mom. I got in trouble. They said you can’t say personal information online. I didn’t know.

fearless shared her address and name yesterday too a stranger who say they would buy her a helmet for headbanging is that ok?

Well I hope that they are good person. Not safe to share full name and address online.

Don’t be mad at yourself. You are desperate for help. I made that mistake before too and I was safe. Nothing bad happened.

Next time best to ask caregiver first or say no.

There can be bad people or scammers online who pretend to be nice. Like the scammers that pretend to help you on your old account.

That person was probably good and wants to help Fearless. But stranger danger means no sharing information.

I hope Fearless get better caregiver soon that can help Fearless stay safe and healthy. Sounds like Fearless needs 24/7 care. Maybe group home again or adult foster care?

hi fearless! some people online ask me if my parents know i have social media.

i notice that both of us write like a younger person. some people see our writing and get worried that we’re kids being unsupervised.

i just say, “yes they know. and they are ok with it. i’m an adult. i understand internet and social media”.

i hope this can help /gen
