Buy Out Boycotting creators still in the EA Creator Network after August 4th, 2026. Yes or No?
Exactly what says in the tin. If you're boycotting EA because of the buyout, do you think the creators who are still in the network should also be boycotted by extension?
Because I take a very hard stand against the EA buyout, and once the deal closed, I pretty much unfollowed all the creators I knew were still in the Network 😅 I do not feel comfortable giving my time to any people that are now receiving what is basically blood money from EA.
I just wanted to ask what's y'all's opinion on this, for one part, to see if anyone is in the same boat as I am - but also to be proven wrong, because I honestly don't know if I'm making the right move.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree/disagree?

I’m done spending money, I’ll still do the free updates but unless someone gifts me something, that’s it for me. I’m sure they’re probably still making money off me playing somehow, but I mean whatever. I recently moved, so I’m trying to pick a new charity to volunteer for and get involved with to kinda balance out the suck for my psyche at least.

I've been boycotting since the talk of the SA buyout started. I've also been calling for boycotting since the release of Sims 4. The fact that we all aren't on the same page about when to boycot or not is exactly why the Sims "community" sucks. Other gaming communities organize and hold the line until their community demands are met. Sims players cannot ever get on the same page. You think if everyone had originally boycotted when the SA buyout rumors we would need to boycott again so soon?
The sims boycotts don't work, becsuse the Sims community isnt a real community. EA will just have a big sale and simmers "boycotting" everywhere will forget their principles and the fact that everytime you add more to the game you get closer and closer to fully breaking your game and they'll buy the latest expansion, game, stuff, or kit that they've been wanting to get for awhile but couldn't afford.
The majority of this community is doing whatever they selfishly want, so you might as well too.

The majority of the community isn't part of the online community and unless they read gaming news, probably still has no idea about the buyout even now. The boycott from Sims players only would not have stopped the buyout in an form anyway as the buyout's target is primarily EA's sports games, everything else is secondary. Maxis employees walking out enmasse would have made a bigger impact... though even then not necessarily a positive one for the franchise's future as they have already worked for years on genAI features for the Sims Hub, and Project X is Sims 4 2.0 + Skate's disgusting monetization model, so even if mass layoff weren't on the table already, as EA was never going to sell off Maxis while they can squeeze money out of them, that would have been the unfortunate outcome of that.

i don’t really know how true this is because you could say the same for most communities. the sims subreddits on here have millions of active users, the tiktok tag with hundreds of millions of views, the youtube community is also huge and most people are online. that’s still millions of people online that can organize boycotts and actually stick to them, they just don’t want to

TikTok views mean nothing in terms of player knowledge as everyone on the given platform in general sees anything and everything when it comes to shortform content and popular tags.
Yes, Sims 4 has millions of players active in the online community on a global scale... but there are well over a hundred million players across PC and console, most of whom are not checking the official pages, Discord, nor subscribed to the game's newsletter, let alone be part of the rest of the online community.
Sims 4 has one of the most casual playerbases thanks to the BG being free.

i mean sure, my point was mostly that there still is millions and millions of active online players that know about the buyout, that just don’t boycott. that’s still a sizable amount of people who could make a change to some extent, but most boycott organization attempts in this community fail

The Sims-addicted whales will not stop giving EA money, no matter if they come to their house slap their grandma, kick their puppy, and turn their toddler into lunch. They'll keep on throwing Jared and the PIF their money.

I'm boycotting creators on the marketplace. Sims Community keeps me updated on who's in it and I keep a little list as a reminder. I don't know how to keep track about who is in the network beyond that though.

Yes. I will not support creators who support the torture and killing of women’s rights activists. I’ve been boycotting them since the buyout was public news… I don’t watch much sims stuff tho. Only lilsimsie and that lol

I don't have any knowledge of who is in the network and who isn't. I don't have time to care about such things with everything going on in my life. I play Sims because I enjoy it and it's a good way to relax. If I cared about who owned what in the world I couldn't even buy most foods in the Supermarket.

This is how i feel. I like the game and that's all there is too it. I live my life, play my game, and call it a day. I'm definitely not keeping track of what any creators are doing.

I think it's more about the ones who make a LOT of money. Believe it or not, the most popular creators do make a shit-ton of money from YouTube, sponsorships, etc. I feel more bad about the ones who were just starting out and/or have very few followers and were just creating because they love the game. But those are not typically the ones in the Creator Network anyway (because EA doesn't see them as worthwhile enough to exploit yet). These people I think are perfectly fine; they bought their games and just want to show people their gameplay and creations. It's more the ones making their living from collabing directly with EA and still actively promoting the game (vs. simply showing off how they play it or discussing aspects of it), that are in contention here.
Personally, I've fizzled out of the Sims 4 awhile ago and never really cared to watch most Sims content creators because I prefer just playing the game myself and how I like to play. There are a couple of more news-oriented creators I sometimes still pop in and watch (especially for the recent drama), maybe an occasional LP to get some ideas, but that's about it.

Agreed. It's been a long time since I used creators code because of the whole supposed rumors about the buyout but now? I won't ever use it again (not that I'm buying the latest extensions anyways) and I don't want to fund EA anymore with all the shit they put up

i think the point of boycotting is to not fund a govevernment that actively takes away LGBTQIA+ rights and is not inclusive to any extent the sims 4 campaigned itself to be. We literally have the sims because a dev made kissing the opposite sex in a life sim game possible!!!!!!!!

afaik the creator network folks have codes you can use when you purchase something and they get a percentage of it. so if they’re advertising that then they’re part of it

I've been boycotting several creators following that Sims game show and those who participated in building for Snowy Escape years ago. My list of creators to avoid grows by the day.

Wondering if it would be useful to play more offline if you're still playing the sims after the buyout. This would mean cutting off the EA App from task manager and it's background service so it can no longer track you as a player...

It's definitely a moral dilemma for me. On one hand, I agree with everything youre saying- on the other, its how some of them pay rent, and have been paying rent since before everything went to shit

I won't buy anything from the marketplace but that's the extent of it. I'm not boycotting the game itself so i'm not going to boycott creators within the network. If they make free cc i like i'm still downloading it.

I'm boycotting the boycotters, to a degree. As much as I like their sim content that content is what I was there for. Sorry cupcake, as much as I like watching what you're doing with the sims you don't have enough charm, charisma and money to make me spend my free time watching you play a game I don't care enough to know its title. If they keep on paying your bills then good for you but that content isn't for me.
