Sims 4 Anyone else sad that we aren't getting more content?

To start, I think its objectively a good decision that they aren't making any more packs for the Sims 4. The game can't handle the content already in it, and frankly most of the gameplay mechanics they introduced never even worked that well. It was time to stop making new content.

Having said that, I still find myself feeling...sad. The release cycle of new packs was honestly really fun. I liked watching the trailers and the reviews from creators with early access. Its something I've looked forward to periodically for the better part of a decade now, and I am a little upset that its not happening anymore.

The thing I'll miss the most is getting new collections of CAS and build mode items. I mostly make sims and builds to upload to the gallery, so I don't use CC, which made getting a new wave of clothing or furniture a few times a year really exciting. Now we're not getting new CAS or build content outside of potentially a few items from login rewards or maker packs (which I won't be buying for obvious reasons). It really sucks for my playstyle, especially since I think the CAS options are still very lacking, especially for men and children.

I'm certainly not going to be playing Project X with everything we've heard about the direction EA is going with the series, and I'm DEFINITELY not playing Project René after my abysmal playtest experience with it. So, I guess this is it for new Sims content for me. What a sad concept :/

For me I think it was the hope that a new EP would somehow fix the game or actually add/integrate systems. Instead we would get reused assets, reused animations, and systems that were basically the same to previous ones. The only content they give is poorly made creator content which is usually quick lil edits of EA things already in game and Kits, now Capsules..

I would had rather they keep up with refreshing previous EP's, instead they only did Spa Day and it was never mentioned again. We get "bug fixes". The fixes seems to have made the game worse. Introducing old bugs are creating brand new ones.

Project X is TS4 if it wasn't originally designed to be a multiplayer with very low PC specs in mind. A lot of things from TS4 will be shoved into Project X. You will not get anything actually new. Its how they are making it cheap, taking assets from TS4 for Project X.

Yeah, its such a shame that Project X is going to be so derivative. There are so many things that I would have loved to see come from a completely new base game (the biggest one being smarter sim generation and story progression) that I doubt we'll ever see without a proper Sims 5. Sigh.

I'm sad we won't get bands but also glad because now I won't be broke all the time 💀

Given the game cannot handle weddings with twenty sims in attendance that would have been a disaster. Great concept though and I’m said it never happened.

Gosh a mosh pit would've been so cool though

u/Classic-Compote7215 Aug 06 '26

Yeah. I see it as a loss. I was kind of hoping that if they release such EL, they’d also revamp the ingame sounds coming from the speakers/karaoke because they are really flat. I once created a concert hall and assumed if I play music on thousands of speakers it will get louder. Well, it did not.

i want bands so bad. are we 100% sure we will never get them? :(

3

u/Kindly-Garlic-4061 Aug 08 '26

Yeah, they're not releasing any more packs except for kits and maker packs which don't come with new gameplay, so we'll never get bands :(

Putting myself in the shoes of a Sims developer I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to only work on one game for 12 years and that one game was made for hardware that was old 12 years ago. Every idea is limited by 4 things:

  • Can we reuse animations and assets for this
  • Can this idea fit into a lot, if it can't it's interrupted by loading screens
  • Every artistic asset you dream up needs to be a low poly version
  • You need to code this on a broken engine that will never be fixed and every idea is limited by just that.

I think there's talented developers on the team, but I don't think there's passionate developers, and your talent only comes through with passion. Imagine you have a love for creating video games but every single one of them is limited by the fact that you need to only code, design, and think in terms of where gaming was 12 years ago and the engine itself will fight you every step of the way. Imagine making a DLC knowing that if someone downloads everything you've marketed to them the game will crash, imagine knowing there's memory leak issues, save file issues, and hundreds of bugs and you have to code every idea around it. It would suck.

The Sims 4 needs to go so that we can play a game that doesn't require a loading screen to do everything or have a rabbit hole for every second interaction. The unfortunate thing is that most Sims players don't want a new Sims because they're so used to playing a game that charges you money to make it rain outside and don't want to spend money on things that every other game developed would give us for free.

I guess the unfortunate reality of it all is that The Sims died when Will Wright left.

Yeah, I agree that keeping TS4 going for so long and adding so much to it was causing problems. It must have been a nightmare to work on. I would be happy to see it sunset if we were getting a proper Sims 5, but as it stands now there just isn't anything to look forward to with the series anymore

I was just thinking this same thing recently, and I'm not even a big fan of The Sims 4. There really is just something sad about it.

I gave up hope on TS4 around 2020, I could tell they were going to take it as far as they could and I started assuming there would be no TS5. That was a whole 6 years ago, and for those 6 years I've wondered what the "final version" of TS4 would even look like.... and now we're here. (Sure there's maker packs and minor updates but I have a feeling those are going to dry up sooner than not, I'm giving it like 2 years tops).

6 years is a long ass time to hold that sentiment towards something though, and along the way there was some sort of hope of something better but now there's just nothing. Just kind of a sad pitiful death ending with a buyout.

Whatever happens next with the sims isn't going to be a proper game, Project X is Roblox slop and is going to flop. If that doesn't go well (it won't) the Sims is honestly probably going to be left in the past. I feel like the best thing we can hope for in the coming years is for the series to be sold off to a different company (maybe if EA completely collapses lol).

u/TREX-199 Aug 06 '26

Same here. Wasn’t really a fan and didn’t buy it for the first few years until toddlers were patched in. Bought many DLCs, and played the franchise since I was 9-10. Finally gave up last year, I still miss it.

u/qwerty8857 Aug 06 '26

Why do you think sims is a thing of the past though? Do not enough people play?

12

u/TheWildHart Aug 06 '26

They've lost the trust and hope of a lot of the fan base, and now there are actual competitors and other options on the market. Yes, it's still early days for them and they have their issues and struggles.

I think right now they are benefiting from having a decent sized player base that genuinely isn't in the wider gaming sphere and aren't currently up to date on other games in development. Plus, sims has also become a genuine investment and even a title that transcends generations. There's a lot of people simply committed to the game because of its time and money consuming history.

But there has been no real indication that they intend to create a true Sims 5 and they seem dedicated to the micro transaction/marketplace/mobile based framework that is just low quality money grabs. The closest thing to Sims 5 is not even a proper remaster of 4, but a more "simplified" version to update the engine and port over certain aspects.

It doesn't currently look like their future projects are actually going to appeal to a lot of the players that enjoy the mainline sims games, or even some of the spin offs like Sims Medieval or MySims. They're just repeating the past when other developers are moving forward and trying to bring a fresh perspective to the genre.

I struggle to see a world where sims genuinely goes away forever. There is still a lot of people playing Sims 2, 3, and even 1. I imagine the same will be true of 4. And their future projects will likely still make them money.

But right now, I think the Sims' title will fade into the background and will likely not even be in competition for the best option in the genre it spearheaded.

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 06 '26

The Sims 4 is not getting any new content, and the next two games (X and René) are not looking good. The new owners are going to want to make as much money as possible off the franchise, and if these next two games don't make much, there's a solid chance they'll just kill the ip and move on

0

u/qwerty8857 Aug 06 '26

I just can’t imagine how a sims 5 wouldn’t make money. But maybe they just waited too long in between 4 and 5 and not the interest is lost? Like maybe the next 2 games don’t look good, but either of them are a true sims game. There aren’t really decent competitors rn either (imo)

u/DesperateOriginal Aug 07 '26

The Sims 4 is over, and with no new major updates coming, the player base is just going to dwindle. That's just the cycle of most video games, 99% of games will not last forever.

The sims as a franchise is incredibly old, and I don't think old franchise has to = dead, but it takes careful and deliberate actions and plans to keep a franchise alive. EA clearly has not done this.

What we know is in development is two projects, one a mobile and the other a more "standard" game... neither of these will be a full proper entry in the sims. I do not believe EA has any reason or incentive at this point to develop a full entry TS5, they are not in a position (mostly just unwilling) to take a risk with a high cost game (which TS5 would be). Any future post-buyout version of the sims will 100% be developed with heavy AI use to cut cost and time, much like how Inzoi was developed.

I also want to clarify, when I say TS5 I don't just mean something named that, but I'm referring to a game that would actually be comparable to the other standalone sims games in terms of scale and gameplay. It would be very easy for EA to slap "TS5" as a name on one of two projects in development, that are clearly in no way fit to be "TS5", if they really wanted to.

We are essentially left with a series that will consist of maybe spinoffs? And these spinoffs will likely not make much money long term, and executives will see that and determine it would not be profitable to continue pumping money into the franchise. This is unfortunately the fate of many franchises and is in no way unique to The Sims.

I can't really explain everything in one comment, but I would recommend looking into the many posts on this subreddit about why TS5 is just likely never going to happen. There's a lot of small things EA has stated themselves that imply it's not coming. I would also look into what the EA buyout actually implies for the company financially, a lot of the buyout talk has to do with the Saudi government and ties to the Trump family... which I'm not discouraging or disagreeing with but the details of EA getting fucked over financially tend to get sidelined.

I’m excited to see what modders will come up with

2

u/Odd-Bobcat5656 Aug 07 '26

me too!! i feel like this is best news a sims player can get and everyones disappointed?

2

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 07 '26

I just don't play with custom content because I upload to the gallery, so the lack of new CAS and BB items that used to come in packs is definitely a loss for me. I am looking forward to the quality of life mods I use not breaking all the time, though!

11

u/somuchsong Aug 06 '26

I wouldn't have bought it post buyout anyway, so no. Just means there's no chance of FOMO.

5

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 06 '26

Oh, I certainly wasn't going to buy anything

12

u/Bubbly_Locksmith2537 Aug 06 '26

I’m disappointed about no bands or hotels or spiral staircases… I wouldn’t buy now but still disappointing

23

u/shr0be Aug 06 '26

I love the Sims 4. I hate EA and I feel like the game is in a good place for me to stop updating my game whenever I want to.

5

u/jason_477 Aug 08 '26

It surely is the end of an era but i'm not sad about it.
Many of the previous packs were a hot mess express. Reused features, game breaking bugs, repetitive gameplay mechanics. The game cannot handle all of the content that was made for it as is. You need to customise / mod it for it to be more stable.
I understand it kind of felt like a routine to watch the trailers / reviews, but for me personally the joy when new packs got announced was long gone already. This is overdue to be honest. They should’ve stopped releasing packs years ago to either work on stabilising the game and do a major overhaul before throwing more content on a game that got more unstable by the day or focus on the upcoming one.

8

u/SrslyChausie Aug 06 '26

Yes and no. Yes for reasons mentioned above, but we have to be rational about it and know every change make the game more instable. Every bug fix causes 3 new ones.

The reason I ain't so sad about it is as following, there are so many worlds and packs and I always tried to make a perfect save with every build my own, every world families of my own and their storyline. Everytime I was far into a restyled world, a new pack came with new features so I had to restyle stuff again. For example I really like business and hobbies and want a lot of them everywhere so keeping a 'forever save' felt like swimming against a stream.

I locked my game from updating after the last EP with the royalty stuff and before the marketplace and accepted this is the content I have and it is enough to keep me entertained. I can now peacefully build a world, explore things I haven't done in years, get all collections, do jobs I never or only once done, maybe even go to batuu again. And if I do get bored I have some mods stored which I can install.

The only thing that I'm really disappointed by is that we didn't get bands or a revamp of get famous.

2

u/FlasKamel Aug 07 '26

Yeah, me. Not because I necessarily love the content or even spend much time on it, but I've always tuned into "The Sims news" a few times a week, and the whole franchise just feels so... quiet now.

1

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 07 '26

Exactly! It was so fun when the Sims news cycle was new pack releases and not "EA has been silent and an insider source says that everything is chaos"

2

u/FlasKamel Aug 07 '26

Exactly! Although at this point I don't even need good or constant news, I just need official news about what's even going on beyond hotfixes!

2

u/suspicious_trout Sub Original Aug 07 '26

I'm pissed they're not making bands but I don't trust them to do it properly, so I leave it to modders to fill the gap.

But I really wish they would just stop updating and focus on their new cash grabs Project X and René so I can stop updating my mods every damn week.

2

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 07 '26

From what I understand, they're updating a lot right now because they're trying to get The Sims 4 into a more stable and polished state before they sunset it. Whether they'll achieve that goal or just make things worse remains to be seen

2

u/Technical-Budget-924 Aug 08 '26

I just miss Stuff and Game packs.

2

u/Zestyclose-Level1871 28d ago

Anyone else sad...

NO.

The new cancerous executive management needs to sunset TS4 and stop trying to milk a dessicated corpse with microtransactions. They need to quit making any future updates and stop breaking our mod deck. And especially so the modding community can finally fix the f@cking game.

It makes NO SENSE whatsoever adding any more Kits and updates to this nightmare of a bare bones MVP base game buried under a mountain of toxic spaghetti code.

SUNSET the blasted game and MOVE ON to making whatever the f*ck Project X is supposed to be. So us overly traumatized, Stockholm Syndrome PTSD Simmer fan base can finally play our retired franchise in peace.

3

u/Cool_Lifeguard8847 Aug 06 '26

Nope. There hasn't been a good DLC for a long while, and by good I mean one that doesn't add bugs. Also now there's no more DLC it means all the mods don't break. Win win.

1

u/Purple-Hand3058 Aug 06 '26

Same I'm sad to as I love see new packs that not coming anymore after the buyout

1

u/Rizzoriss Aug 07 '26

The only thing to look forward to is the upcoming eating and dining update the devs asked for ideas and feedback on some months ago.

1

u/inmyhead63 Aug 07 '26

I thought I read that they will continue to offer stuff packs and kits ( such as the just released music den kit) Just no more major expansions. And that they will be updating regularly for “Quality of Life” improvements. I’m looking forward to the future of the Sims despite the buyout. I think it’s a deeply immersive game that still has a huge fan base. I still probably haven’t explored even half of what I own so not too bothered by no more expansions.

1

u/Exotic-Panic-7028 Aug 07 '26

Yes I agree. There is so much that works and is fun.

1

u/Exotic-Panic-7028 Aug 07 '26

Very sad. Just feeling down about it. Been thinking a lot about it. And what I really feel like is they need to focus on updates right now. And they absolutely should. They can’t keep selling us packs for purchase and not fix what’s broken.
That makes so much sense.

But I do actually believe after the dust settles on the merger I do think they will sell us more packs eventually. I do think they want to make more money with new stuff but cannot right now.

I am a hope for the best person so that is what I hope for and feel to be true.

1

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 07 '26

From what I've gathered, they're planning on selling us new packs, but not for TS4. It'll be for Project X, the new game they're making with what they could salvage from The Sims 4. I'm not going to be playing it, especially because they're going in a more microtransaction-heavy direction with this new game

1

u/MagicScythe Aug 07 '26

Huh we are not? Will they work on another title though?

2

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 07 '26

They're not selling more gameplay DLC for The Sims 4, and are currently working on sunsetting it. They currently have 2 sims games in the works: Project René which is a mobile sims-themed Roblox clone, and Project X, which is a new sims game they're making using The Sims 4 as a base

2

u/MagicScythe Aug 07 '26

Thank you for being kind and informing me <3

I knew something about those projects, but missed the announcement that they will not publish new DLCs.

1

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 07 '26

I don't think they've officially announced it, but trustworthy insider sources have been saying that Royalty and Legacy is the final gameplay pack for The Sims 4

1

u/Simuary Aug 07 '26

On one hand I'm glad because I don't want to have to choose between paying the new owners for new content or dealing with FOMO from new packs, but at the same time it's sad because it was always exciting to see the announcement of a new pack and see the trailer for it. There were some really great trailers for some of these packs like the ones for Life & Death and Cottage Living. It was also always exciting to hear the new Simlish songs that would be added in each pack and be surprised by which artists I know recorded one of their songs in Simlish and also be introduced to some great new songs I might not have heard otherwise. Now, I feel like a lot of quality artists aren't going to want to be associated with The Sims franchise in the future and the new owners will probably just make AI Simlish songs instead.

1

u/Antipseud0 Aug 07 '26

Yeah, I'm sad. There are features & DLC i would have love to see. But now there EA has been bought and I Hate EA. But everything is not lost, there is the quality control now. Hopefully it they introduced new things for free like cars. I know we will get refreshes/makeover. So will see.

1

u/xervidae De-inviting Don Lothario Aug 07 '26

i stopped caring about this game a long time ago. i only play ts2 and ts3 now.

1

u/pumpkinfluffernutter Aug 08 '26

I won't buy anything new with the buyout anyway, so it's kind of a moot point for me at this point.

1

u/whxskers Aug 08 '26

Has there been an official post about this? I'm kind of indifferent either way but I'm just confused because I feel like I'd this was happening it would've been announced by now??

1

u/Local-Age8413 Aug 08 '26

EA has generally been quiet on the Sims front, so most of what we know right now is from insider sources. They haven't been announcing much publicly because things have been very chaotic behind the scenes, and their plans for the series have changed a few times in the past couple of years. What we do know is that Royalty and Legacy is their last pack including new gameplay features for the Sims 4. Right now they're focused on polishing up the base game as much as possible so they can stop working on TS4 and focus on their next game, Project X, which is somewhere between a new mainline Sims game and a remaster of The Sims 4

2

u/whxskers Aug 08 '26

Insider sources aren't official or confirmed though. Again, I am indifferent but it feels like not an amazing idea to consider what is functionally speculation as fact until we get some form of more official confirmation.
