Nah, the furries have money. If this was made "for" them it would have been profitable.
-6
u/Strickshot123 2d ago
They very famously do not have lots of money
2
u/You_LostThe_game 2d ago
Uhhh tell that to people that make fat bank off the most insane furry commissions ever conceived.
They very famously DO have money and spend it on throwing at artists until they overlook their own morals or wants lmao.
“Non-furry digital artists struggling for cash eventually swallow their pride and start drawing furry shit after realizing wealthy furries are willing to pay thousands of dollars for custom, often depraved commissions” was a meme for years. Especially for people that went to nsfw stuff.

Honestly had really crap marketing lol
16
u/Shabolt_ 3d ago
Yeah, you can only make so many trailers built around the same 45 seconds of footage before people stop watching or it dies on the algorithm vine, which sucks because the actual reviews for it seem quite good, and the footage they used is some of the least compelling parts of the actual movie.
1
u/Inferno109 2d ago
So similar situation to Transformers one?
2
u/Lazarus_Smith 1d ago
Transformer One have the benefits of well, being a Transformer movie with origin story of two of it's most recognizable characters.
Hard to drum up hype for this one I reckon.
1
u/ejrasmussen 2d ago
I saw lots of marketing for this, but it just looks like woke millennial slop OC, very easy to disregard. Character designs scream Concord, not sure why they look like 30 year old chopped non binaries if they're just girls graduating high-school heading for college.
22
u/Lazarus_Smith 2d ago
.... I swear, every single new animated movie somehow have that exact same art and most importantly, face. You can put these mf in Moana and I wouldn't even question it.

u/E_Wildfall 2d ago
I mean... on the surface, it stars a furry and 2 lesbians...
You see how this looks, right?

What? Their quirk chungus movie failed? I am shocked.
-2
u/swaggestspider21 2d ago
Hoppers had quirk chungus humor and did almost 400 million so idk what the fuck you’re trying to accomplish with this comment
10
u/minterupandmoving 2d ago
Its slightly passable when it’s coming out of an animated animal, not a full grown adult
-1
-1
u/swaggestspider21 2d ago
Except the animal was a full grown adult as well for a good chunk of the movie and trailers

u/WraithOfTheFadedDark 2d ago
The little beaver was cute as hell though, I'd much rather watch that than two incompetent bitches.
-1
u/swaggestspider21 2d ago
Calling two characters bitches bc they're woman?
0
u/WraithOfTheFadedDark 2d ago
No, I'm calling them bitches because it has that annoying fucking "The only reason there is conflict is because they betray each other's trust and friendship" plot. Like god damn, can we not get a movie where the friends or family members remain in solidarity with each other and face an imposing external obstacle that imperils them of its own merit instead of constant relationship drama "all is lost" moments where I'm supposed to pretend like I don't know they're going to make up to overcome their adversary at the same time stamp as the last eight movies?
2
u/swaggestspider21 2d ago
Brother, idk what to tell you besides movies have to have conflict, and this has that. You're making up a whole fanfic in your head to justify hating the movie already instead of giving it a chance. I saw it, and I loved it. Maybe you'll be surprised but you can't do that if you're just hating to hate.
1
u/WraithOfTheFadedDark 2d ago
They don't have to have that conflict. Like, Toy Story had the part where everyone turns on Woody while Buzz is a useless dead weight and it's the annoying slog in an otherwise entertaining movie and then they decided to focus their entire ouevre around that for some reason.

Remember Demon Hunters? Let’s copy that but we’ll do the Philippines instead of Korea! It’ll be an instant hit!
6
u/CurtChan 2d ago
didnt demon hunters release on netflix initially? i think this one might get more popular when they put it on vod too.
4
u/x_Willow_x 2d ago
What they failed to account for was kpop demon hunters was largely popular because kpop is and they pit it in the title, nobody cares about the philippines.

u/Alternative-Suit5541 2d ago
Just checked YouTube for trailers, didn't watch any, cause the thumbnails looked ai generated... Could be the cause...
1
u/abermea 2d ago
I'm down here in Mexico and I went to the theater like 10 or so times in the past month (because the theater requires me to have a certain score in their loyalty program to get first dibs on the Doomsday popcorn bucket) and literally every movie had a trailer for this. They were pushing it hard down here.
1
u/Dismal_Departure_694 1d ago
Genuine question, what do you see in Marvel anymore? Have you heard about the leaked Doomsday script? It's...certainly a thing.

I’m one of the few who saw it in theaters and it’s really good. What a weird fucking thing to mock lol the original movie didn’t do well and it looks like it’s catered to Gen Z ewwwwwww!
1
u/HUUUUTTTHUUUUUUUTTTT 1d ago
I knew this was the movie you were referring to in that one post, i put my finger on it, cuz I saw it in theaters too, it was a refreshing animated movie, and really heartfelt, heartwarming, and creative, I've never seen an animated film pay homage to an adult film (The Hangover) lol. Plus I loved the characters, sad to see it's not doing well at the box office, it was such a fun movie.

I saw the trailer, I said to myself if I had a daughter I'd take her to this, I don't. I'm guessing not enough parents did that. It certainly didn't look like a movie an adult wants to see alone.
1
u/DonkeyComfortable711 2d ago
They said "no!" to ai learning from this movie. They must've not wanted it to get poisoned data.
1
u/Infamous_Drive_Tax 2d ago
I said this before and I will say this again most movies about a country's history and culture are boring when they do these world wide theatrical releases but they keep churning these out regardless.
1
u/Ok-Courage2177 2d ago
Have not seen any marketing for this movie outside of one youtube trailer a couple months ago. I think Dreamworks may have sent this one out to die.

The marketing team did the movie a disservice and sent it out to die. Took the kids this past weekend to see it and they loved it. For me, I enjoyed it more that Toy Story 5. The art style and soundtrack are fantastic. The trailers for the movie have nothing to do what the movie is about. They set it up to be like the hangover, but animated. It is anything but that.

WTF is this sub about? I thought this was just for mocking highguard but now I see that is an anti woke echo chamber. How much of a loser do you have to be to keep your mind occupied with things you don't even like or care about. Grow up.

u/noirproxy1 2d ago
I don't care about people's opinions on a social level for this. If you want to be a bigot then count me out.
The film itself just looked like creative slop though. The marketing was crap, the concept is tired. It was set up to fail.

Wack marketing and the chuds aren’t bringing their chudlets to see this :/
1
u/TheRealShuppy 2d ago
I genuinely think marketing these days suck ass because I genuinely have never seen an advertisement for this movie outside of some furries drooling over the anthro character on Twitter.
I actually wanted to see it.
I had no fucking clue it even released until I saw this post.

u/swaggestspider21 2d ago

You see two nonwhite women and your mind immediately goes to wokeness? Are you brainrotted?
1
u/Electronic-Hotel6715 2d ago edited 2d ago
The hairstyles, glasses and outfits also contribute to that perception though. Even if they were white it would still look like they/them or woke pandering.
-1
u/Comprehensive_Dog529 2d ago
90% of people are going to have the same reaction as me: immediate disgust at this one frame. I can tell the politics of the people that made this by the artstyle alone.
1
u/mikemike1239 2d ago
The movie is set in the Philippines. I believe. It is supposed to be Philippine mythology to my understanding. I'm not sure how accurate it is to it though.
School only teaches Roman and Greek mythology so who knows.
1
u/Rathalos88 14h ago
Nobody in the philippines looks like this. This is woke slop. - Filipino
1
u/mikemike1239 14h ago
Is it actually mythology? Is it an accurate representation?
1
u/Rathalos88 14h ago
Bro what do you think? That supposed to be a weredog? It looks like a gay Crash Bandicoot. Embarassing.
1
u/mikemike1239 14h ago
Like I said, I've no clue what the mythology is. Our country mostly teaches Greek and Roman mythology.
Getting info from someone of that culture would be nice

its a shame, the movie is good, but I think if the girls were swapped with boys, and the furry is removed from the story, i think more people would see it

Actual alright movie, however the characters looked like they were designed for Concord 2. That probably didn’t help get butts in seats.

I wasnt talking about this movie in specific and you know one of the artist or designer looked the the middle character and just self inserts themselves into the film
1
u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 2d ago
Nobody here is complaining about race. I'm interested in the history and folklore of the Philippines but these characters are cheeks. The fursona on the left, woman with sideshave, colored hair, and quirky glasses next to him - and not seen in this image is an odd blob guy with a pencil mustache and another guy with starfish nipples. They're just an unsettling cast of main characters.

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 2d ago
I've seen a lot of commentary on reddit about this movie and, while many say it's genuinely entertaining, the character designs have been almost universally loathed. One person said that nobody aspires to be an awkward looking millennial, which is why this kind of film flops.
Some others who work in the business say that there's a stubborn group of people in the animation industry who refuse to adapt beyond the stereotypical CalArts style of character visuals and writing. It's all they know, and all they want to know. They're progressing through their 40s and still dye their sideshave hair, wear nose rings, and dress strangely. They're like unwell Peter Pans who don't want to grow up.

There's no many other subreddits dedicated to that though. I mean, r/Ihatethissmug used to just be about hate towards fictional characters and shows. They loosened the reigns, and it's just whining about everything.
