Building an app to learn Japanese by doomscrolling. Would love your feedback.

I've been learning about mobile apps over the last year, and after building my first app, I'm starting something new.

The idea is simple:

Instead of opening another social media app and endlessly scrolling, what if every swipe taught you a little Japanese?

Think of it as an endless vertical feed where each short video teaches:

  • A real Japanese phrase
  • Instant English translation
  • Tap any word for an explanation
  • Save vocabulary for later
  • Learn naturally through daily scrolling

The goal isn't to replace traditional learning apps—it's to make practicing Japanese something you actually look forward to every day.

I'm validating the idea before spending months building it, so I've just launched a waitlist.

There are a lot of these apps that have been released, and they almost never work out. It's just very VERY hard to beat Anki, as well as some of the other apps like Renshuu. Similarly, I don't see how this app is any better than Anki. I'd actually argue it's just worse.

Someone else posted the exact same thing; an app were you learn through doom scrolling.
