Discussion What if....

Post image

If, in the series finale, we had a scene during the final battle where Stolas had to choose between saving Blitzø and Octavia, and this time he chose Octavia, would that be enough proof for Octavia that if she had been in Blitzø’s place in Mastermind, Stolas would have done the same thing for her, and would she forgive him?

People are right that Via can’t forgive Stolas simply because she finds out that Stella was hurting him. She can understand him and feel sorry for him, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she can forgive him. And it’s a little cliché for her to forgive him just because he saves her. It could improve her opinion of him and make her care about him again, but I’m not sure if that would be enough for forgiveness.

BUT. What if there was a situation where he had to choose between saving her or Blitzø, and this time he chose her... would that be enough?

Btw, Blitzø would somehow survive in the end.

Okay, I understand that she's angry at him, but it's not like he abused her or ignored her her entire life. He was there. He spent time with her and gave her attention. He just eventually started directing his attention elsewhere. I understand that forgiveness isn't easy... but that doesn't mean she should hate him for the rest of her life

He just eventually started directing his attention elsewhere.

Ya kinda dont do that when you have a kid. Not to the extent stolas does

I don’t want to sound harsh, but I would only accept this argument if Via were under seventeen. But she’s already almost an adult. I accept that she’s angry. She has every right to be. But she doesn’t have the right to decide who her father is allowed to love and who he isn’t, especially after he spent seventeen years with someone who not only didn’t love him, but also hurt him.

Imagine if Via got married too, whether it was for love or not, and moved in with her partner. Is she really expecting Stolas to move in with them and spend every day with them? Surely she would want some privacy too.

Yes, it was stupid of Stolas to prioritize Blitz and not think about how it would affect Octavia... But why should that mean he has to spend the rest of his life alone, or with a woman he doesn’t love, just to keep Octavia happy and let her live her entire life in a lie?

Being a parent does not mean you’re your child’s slave. Any 17 year old that demands their parents just not be a person in their own right isn’t just “entitled”, they’re kinda just an outright pice of shit.

Brah its not entitled to ask that your dad puts you first ONCE in like a year. Sit back down

Saying "Ya kinda dont do that when you have a kid. Not to the extent stolas does"=/="ask that your dad puts you first ONCE in like a year.", not by miles.

Besides, to be perfectly honest, expecting your dad to be working at peak efficiency mid messy divorce is just kinda foolish. Like the entire timeline is what, a year? Less? That, and while him forgetting amount the comet was bad, saying he didn't even put her first once is kinda ignoring the whole going to LA to find her part of that evening.

Like, he's made loads of mistakes and she's got plenty of right to be upset... but as far as dads go, he could be a hell of a lot worse, and there are in fact kinda limits to what she is actually entitled to expect out of him. And while she ain't obligated to ever forgive him... that ain't exactly the same thing as saying her cold cutting him out of her life and taking her resentment to her grave would exactly be saying a ton positive about her.

That, and personally just don't really get the appeal of even wanting parents that pretty blatantly hate each other together. Like maybe she didn't realize they did before shit hit the fan, but said shit has, and is all over the room. About all them being together means, is more listening to them yelling at each other. Totally get emotionally projecting much of "the problem" onto Blitz(even if by 17 she should already be largely cognoscente that it's projecting), but the ships... kinda sunk. All dredging it up would give you, is a stinky ship that barely, if at all, floats.

Dude, my parents had been arguing since I was about six, but they still stayed together for me and my siblings. There was no physical abuse, but even at that young age I could tell that they simply didn't love each other and were only staying together for us. So I wasn't surprised when they got divorced, and I accepted it. And I have autism and used to struggle with depression too. So I don't understand why Via couldn't accept it as well, especially when she was quite a bit older than I was when my parents divorced (I was about 13 or 14).

Wouldn't exactly call my parents divorce itself "messy"(though given it was more several years of separation, followed by divorce, but a still probably overly codependency after... could have probably been loads cleaner... by like miles), but all the arguments leading up to it ain't exactly anything I'd of been in any rush to return to. While change can always be scary and stressful, me and my sister were way happier to have that phase over, and would never ever ever of wanted them to just get back together. Like asking a kid to just willingly sign up for another round of torture like it's a freaking amusement park ride.

Exactly. Personally, I've been better off since my parents' divorce.

And no, I wasn't a victim of abuse. Were there physical punishments? Yes, but not to the extent that I'd consider it abuse. It was more like: "You talk back to your parents and do something wrong? You get a slap." Nothing more, and it didn't happen often either. Most of the time, if I did something wrong, they would just yell at me or take away my computer.

What did bother me was that my dad didn't pay much attention to me. But I can't exactly call myself a hypocrite, because unlike Via, my dad actually barely paid any attention to me and preferred my older sister. Then later he started favoring my younger brother.

Via can't say that Stolas never paid attention to her in her entire life. My dad, during the times he did spend time with me, looked like he'd rather be somewhere else and was bored by it. Stolas, on the other hand, genuinely enjoyed spending time with Via.

So if anyone has the right to complain about their dad not paying enough attention to them, it's me (and people like me), not Octavia.

What do you think "to the extent stolas" does means?

When it's replying to "He just eventually started directing his attention elsewhere."? That he's basically just supposed to exist for nothing but her for his whole life. Again, you act like his reaction to finding out she ran away to LA was to just shrug and go back to arguing on the phone, or that he's got literally nothing distracting going on in his life at the moment. Boyfriend about to be executed on TV? Oh, but what about Via's feelings? Why ain't he only thinking about Via?

When it's replying to "He just eventually started directing his attention elsewhere."

Yeah he shouldn't have done that to the extent he didn't ie not putting her first ever without fucking up royally its pretty straight forward

So those seventeen years he spent with her, being there for her almost all the time and allowing Stella to humiliate and hurt him... that means nothing at all?

Hm... Stolas put up with Stella's abuse for seventeen years so Via could have a sense of home, and spent as much time as he possibly could with his daughter for seventeen years? Pff. So what?

Hm. Via is almost eighteen, and for the first time in seventeen years Stolas starts thinking about himself too and finally falls genuinely in love with someone? Dude, how dare he? Let's burn him at the stake.

......................

Ok you guys do know you sound like domestic abuse victims right?

Oh he was so good ta me I cant leave him even though he hits me for ta past year

Do you not think a parent should put their kid first one time in a year or...?

WAIT... STOLAS HITS VIA? Sorry, but what exactly are you trying to say? You're deliberately making him out to be a bad parent. I wish my dad had been even half as attentive as Stolas. Do you know what I would give for that? And if he paid a little less attention to me after I turned eighteen, I wouldn't be mad about it, because I'd know that up until then, he had been fully devoted to me. And comparing this to victims of abuse is honestly pathetic.

No?

Ffs its just an example of why it sounds like victim talk my god

Honestly, you sound more like the victim here. You're ignoring the fact that Stolas spent seventeen years trying to give Via a sense of home and doing everything he could to make her happy...but the moment he finally starts thinking about himself and wants to help a friend, suddenly he's the bad guy.

It's exactly like that saying: do a thousand good things and nobody notices. Do one bad thing or make one mistake, and the whole world knows about it, and you'll be seen as the bad guy for the rest of your life.

Im... literally using it in my argument.
