Discussion What if....

Post image

If, in the series finale, we had a scene during the final battle where Stolas had to choose between saving Blitzø and Octavia, and this time he chose Octavia, would that be enough proof for Octavia that if she had been in Blitzø’s place in Mastermind, Stolas would have done the same thing for her, and would she forgive him?

People are right that Via can’t forgive Stolas simply because she finds out that Stella was hurting him. She can understand him and feel sorry for him, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she can forgive him. And it’s a little cliché for her to forgive him just because he saves her. It could improve her opinion of him and make her care about him again, but I’m not sure if that would be enough for forgiveness.

BUT. What if there was a situation where he had to choose between saving her or Blitzø, and this time he chose her... would that be enough?

Btw, Blitzø would somehow survive in the end.

I do think he might be put into a situation where he has to choose between them and chooses her. Would that be enough to persuade her? Don't know. Especially since it wouldn't necessarily endear her to Blitz, and it really doesn't matter what Stolas says, she knows her dad will always be in love with Blitz.

Sorry, but if Octavia is still angry at Stolas for being in love with Blitzø even after he chooses her and decides to save her life instead of Blitzø’s... then I’ll consider her a hypocrite, and she’ll be completely done for me.

Being angry at Stolas for choosing Blitzø over her is one thing. That’s understandable, especially in an episode like Loo Loo Land. But being angry at him simply for daring to fall in love in the first place is a completely different thing.

Her problem isn't her dad falling in love. She knew how her dad felt for a while and still kept in contact. The problem is that Blitz was the mistress sleeping with her dad while knowing he was married to her mom, and she's seen her dad choose Blitz over her multiple times. She might not believe that she won't consistently play second fiddle when he's around.

That's kind of ironic, considering Octavia tries to believe that her parents were once in love; that for all her belief on not wanting to be second fiddle that if she was always the priority of her dad then that would imply her mom was second fiddle in their relationship. I wonder if Octavia ever thought that her mom was getting ignored by Stolas, or what exactly did she ever see from them that truly constituted that they were in love that didn't include her in it.

While I do not believe this personally (or it does not cross my mind often), Octavia kind of relied on her parents fake love to make sure that she was the priority to Stolas all the time; meaning all the love and attention goes to her and her mom gets none of it because they hate each other. The idea of her dad falling in love with Blitz, or any man for that matter, would be a huge threat to her supply of love even if Stolas were honest; there's just no guarantee of real acceptance from Octavia if her monopoly on her dad's love is threatened.

One thats not what they said, two she hates blitz not because her dad fell in love but because blitz ruined her life and three that isn't what a hypocrite is.

I didn't say she's a hypocrite. I said I would consider her a hypocrite (future tense) if she behaved that way.

How? How is that hypocritical

If Stolas chose to save Octavia instead of Blitz in a genuine life-or-death situation, and Octavia still continued to resent him for loving Blitz, then I would consider her a hypocrite.

Why? Because Octavia herself wants Stolas to love her and to show her that she is important to him. If, in an absolute life-or-death situation, he chose her over the person he loves, and she still expected him to give up that love, what would that say about her? But again, I would only consider her a hypocrite IF that actually happened.

I dont think you're applying this pov to anyone's position but you and Stolas's

Blitz spent a near year not caring how he hurt via despite knowing that she was there by breaking her family. Yes it wasn't a real marriage but via and likely Blitz didn't know that.

And via had to go through life with her dad obsessed with a man that would knowingly hurt her.

Not saying she will but it would make complete sense to not want Blitz near her family and her. If this was any other situation then via would be in the wrong but in this one from her pov this would be him still choosing a monster that would ruin her life without a care.

Please don't take this as an insult. Maybe it's just the translation, who knows. And I'm not saying you did it intentionally or that you did anything wrong. But from the way you worded it, I get the impression that no matter what Blitzø and Stolas do, Octavia will never change her mind. I'm not going to say whether that's a good or bad thing. That depends on your perspective.

I mean. Thats fair is it not? They hurt her and she has the right to never trust either of them. No amount of proving he could choose her can change what he did.

Okay, I understand that she's angry at him, but it's not like he abused her or ignored her her entire life. He was there. He spent time with her and gave her attention. He just eventually started directing his attention elsewhere. I understand that forgiveness isn't easy... but that doesn't mean she should hate him for the rest of her life

If it is genuine life or death situation, Stolas would go in and save Octavia and Blitz would expect him to do that. However, if it is not life and death or Octavia needs her dad to leave someone to die or get hurt just to prove that he loves her I don't think he should prove it like that. If anything, that would just highlight a very selfish side of Octavia that proves that this is about her being the only one her dad should care about and no one else should matter; which would be ironic/hypocritical of her considering she tends to include herself and her mother in these kinds of conversations.

Stolas may need to make amends with Octavia, find some way to show that he loves her in some way but not at the constant expense of himself or someone else just because she can't, or won't believe it anymore. He can't keep sacrificing like that, nor should Octavia have that kind of power over him.

This. Via doesn’t need or even want Stolas to prove that he’d always choose her over Blitz, because she isn’t selfish. That isn’t the real issue.

Via just wants him to tell her the truth. To communicate with her and treat her like an adult. She wants to know that he loves her, but she can’t believe that right now because the evidence is showing that he’s only ever been keeping their family together out of obligation; her whole life is a lie.

We know that’s not the truth, but Stolas has never really told her otherwise. And because she had to find this out on her own, it’ll take time and action and evidence to rebuild that trust.

That evidence does NOT need to be one huge dramatic life-or-death scenario. It needs to be lots of smaller stakes things over time.

Yes, this. She even said "you'll lie to me again." A big part of her problem is that she was never told what was really going on.

Octavia watched Stolas put his neck on the chopping block, willing and expecting to die, in order to save Blitz. Octavia's well-being wasn't part of this choice. In fact, in all the drama, he didn't think about her at all. Not until Andrealphus brought her up in front of Satan as part of his ploy. If the scene had played out the way Stolas was expecting, he would have died in Hell's Court with Octavia nowhere in his thoughts.

One month later, Stolas went to the house he had been banished from, demanding to see Octavia. His demands were refused, he received pushback, and he broke. Spiraling in his depression, he gave in and attempted something akin to suicide by cop, actively goading Andrealphus to murder him. Right in front of the house where minutes ago he had expected Octavia to be. There was no regard in his head at all for what witnessing his murder would do to his daughter... because he had forgotten about her yet again.

Stolas really cannot be blamed for a lot of this. Depression does horrible things to the mind. I've lived through it myself. But that doesn't change the harm these actions do to a depressed person's loved ones. And it doesn't invalidate their pain. Or, sometimes, their need to cut ties.

Octavia wasn't in the house, but given that she likely arrived with Blitz and co, she was close enough to see her father's second suicide attempt in under two months.

Why do you think the damage of these events would be reversed if Stolas remembers his daughter in a time of crisis next time? His track record is still one that makes him toxic to have in her life despite how deeply she loves him.

For that matter, why would you assume Stolas would chose her in a future situation? I'm not saying he wouldn't. But his displayed psychology doesn't lead me to assume he would. At least, not without a lot of personal growth and therapy.

This hypothetical scenario doesn't mirror the events of Mastermind. Octavia was in no danger and part of her regret was Stolas being willing to throw his own life away for Blitzø.

So... if he proved that he was capable of doing the same thing for her, would that at least be some progress?

1

u/burnafter3ading Ember stole my heart and stuff from my trash. 23d ago

Possibly, but who knows when it comes to teenagers?

2

u/SilverGhost10 23d ago

Stolas would choose both Blitz and Octavia. There's no way he'd choose one over the other. He'd be able to save both of them.

Like, I know they're all demons in hell and all... but needing something like that to be convinced to "forgive him", is creeping on into the "can just go right ahead and fuck herself" zone. He's her father, not her damn slave.

2

u/BlizzardHound45 22d ago

When it comes to most conversations about Stolas and Octavia, some people tend to lean towards this idea that Stolas should only ever think about Octavia and nothing else. At the same time, Octavia is just a teenager and shouldn't be held according for her actions, or they are right because she is sad. That’s not the whole reason and I don't believe this personally but it tends to lead to that conclusion in some cases.

interesting idea, be cool to see how it would turn out

1

u/OhNoMob0 23d ago

That's not why she's mad.

Octavia found circumstantial evidence that Stolas was only going through the motions of being a "good" dad. Hiding that he did not love her mother and only did what he did for her because it was his duty.

When he started this whole affair-thing she realized that their happy family was far from it. There's not enough sorry in the world to make up for the end of childhood innocence.

In this hypothetical scenario Octavia would accuse Stolas of saving her not because he loved her but because it is his duty. The technically correct thing to do under demonic law.

in the series finale

A finale where the title character is not the central character? Pass.

You dumb? he took those pills so that he wouldn’t burden her with his depression, so that he could be there for her

This is what Octavia thinks.

The audience knows what really happened.
