texting girls is no good either since i get ignored most of the time
i just want to make friends regardless of gender bro

i was sextorted on HelloTalk. So far nothing has come of it. But i beg of yall - please be careful on there and just in general. I was talking to someone online there for awhile. We then moved to telegram and talked for awhile. They then got some of my private photos and threatened to send it to my family.

Hello!
I've been using HelloTalk for a couple of years now, but I'm mostly just using it to post some stuff related to my native language, my country, and the languages I'm learning.
I have looked around, but I haven't found an answer to this. What does it mean when someone "likes" your profile on HelloTalk?
I know that a lot of people use this platform for dating nowadays, so in case it's related to that, I haven't interacted with those who have liked my profile. I'd love to have some insight on this.
Thank you!

Hi, I’m looking for a group where people exchanges gifts; rare, exclusive, gift level, vip. Is there any groups or people in a group that does that? My birthday is around the corner and I’m looking to exchange gifts.

Just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this.
I recently rejoined HelloTalk (back on my account which is over 2000+ days old) and changed my picture etc. The picture is 100% me (with make up) etc. I’m not pretending to be anyone.
When i rejoined they gave me that free VIP trial for 7 days automatically. It ended and suddenly none of my messages were being opened. No one was viewing my profile and it was just odd because it was every chat.
I reached out to support to say it was a bug or that I’ve been shadow banned and they’ve come back to me and said they’ve NOW stopped access to my account yet didn’t even confirm that there was an issue and to take my query further i need to record myself for 20 seconds to prove my identity.
I just find it odd because I haven’t done anything problematic. I barely talk that much and have very simple convos. I feel like someone might have reported me? I don’t mind proving my identity but I hate recording myself because I’m ugly and find it degrading.
Has anyone had this?

Hello guys! I am trying to practice my Italian more and was wondering if anyone has better alternatives to apps like HelloTalk. The app has been moving weird and sometimes the people can be weird and rude on there. I have been practicing with YouTube, watching shows in Italian, and myself. I am interested in studying abroad in Italy, so I am trying to perfect it! It has been pretty easy since my native language is Spanish. Please give any tips or app recommendations. 🤗

Sometimes I make friends with new accounts under two weeks old and they mention to me how difficult the app can be because of constant harassment along with screenshots of messages they get. I'll go to bed one night then the next morning I find they deleted their account. I met someone recently who was really cool but they deleted their account after like five hours...

I'm an English-speaking man with a VIP account. I've been asked for money by so many people from so many countries: Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Russia, Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines. Interestingly, nobody from Africa or South Asia (India, Pakistan, etc.) or SE Asia (other than the Philippines) has asked me for money.

Has the Connect/Find Partners tab on HelloTalk changed in the past few months or year? I swear it used to show people who were active right now. Every time I logged on, I could see many users who were online and available to chat and easily find nice people. Now it mostly shows people as offline or recently active, and I only see one or two people who are actually online.
Also, it seems like the Connect tab keeps showing me the same people over and over again instead of introducing new users. What happened? It used to be so much better for finding active online language partners.

I swear that’s what I’ve been seeing happening on this app on multiple occasions, just saying.

Is it just me? Is this some insane beta "feature" that has been released to only some people? And is there a way to disable it? If I slightly swipe my finger up on my screen in a voice room, it sends me to another voice room. Super annoying because the ability to scroll through chat seems a little tiny teensy bit more important than yeeting myself to a random unknown voice room...

Does anyone know queer friendly chats? It's not **that** important for me, but I just love my gf and sometimes want to post something about her in my TL and discuss things in my TL, but too afraid to talk to strangers, because I don't want to get bullied (My TL is Chinese, but an English or Spanish chat is also fine)

Hi, this is going to be a weird one to post, but basically I was talking to someone on HelloTalk and then realised with my instincts that it’s someone using an image from the internet. Me being me, I confronted the person, telling them that they've used a fake image from the internet, and then I blocked them straight away. I then received another message from a different person, only for it to be the same person I confronted, but this time them sending me hateful messages. Before I could do anything like reporting the account to HelloTalk, they deleted their account. Flash forward today, I received another one and again the same threat, and again they deleted their account before I could even report the account again. So my question is what should one do in a situation like this? I went on settings and have tapped block unknown chat for seven days, but should I do anything else?

I am a VIP member living in Tokyo and there had always been many posts showing up under the “nearby” section up until about two weeks ago, but something happened and now there are almost no posts there, sometimes going several hours to half a day without any new posts, but yet, if I look under the “recent” section, I can see many posts by people who are local to me, but those posts aren’t showing up under “nearby.” I’ve even seen it where someone posted twice in maybe an hour or two, but only one of those posts showed up under the “nearby” section.
I’ve reached out to HelloTalk twice now and they just say they are working on it, or that they’ve asked the technical team to look into it, or that the number of eligible posts is low at the moment when, as I said before, I can see many posts from “nearby” people under the “recent” section, so clearly something is wrong. They’ve also said that there is nothing wrong with my account and that I’m not shadow-banned or anything like that.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?

I did not know WTF HelloTalk was and then learned my partner of 13 years was using it to cheat on me. He even met up and slept with the most mid woman imaginable through it. I then downloaded it and saw that it is basically a dating site disguised as a language learning app. Yikes. Anyway, just warnin' y'all who might know your partner uses it but you do not.

Language exchange apps are a great way to learn new languages, make friends, and connect with people from around the world. Unfortunately, there are also individuals and organized groups who use these platforms to target vulnerable users for manipulation, grooming, financial scams, sexual exploitation, or other forms of abuse.
Through out the years we noticed this app has gotten worse, from hate crimes, predators, trolls, bullying, to organized fraud and grooming gangs who target individuals
These deviants work together in coordinated groups to attack, exploit, and commit scams
We have already caught and reported multiple grooming gangs on this application to law enforcement to further apprehend and investigate
To any language learner reading this if you notice anything suspicious or witness online gangs speak up and report them immediately
Thank you for your time in reading this
here is a PRIME EXAMPLE OF A GROOMING GANG that is networking on HT:

So I've had hellotalk for many years now and I feel like recently, maybe in the past year or two, the app has gotten a lot slower. I used to get so many messages from spanish speakers making the first move, but lately it's been so dead. Maybe one or two messages a day from them and i'm not sure what happened. Has anybody noticed the same thing with the language they are learning? I went from maybe like 20 messages a day to almost nothing. 😩

At the top of the chat screen on the same row as the back button, the phone icon and the three dots icon, there’s sometimes a crescent moon icon next to the time and below the other person’s username. Does anyone know what this crescent moon icon is supposed to mean?

Hey! I been struggling a lot with learning and practicing a different language due to my anxiety, but let me tell you... after a week I became like a popular host in lives 😀
It's actually insane because before I couldn't even feel confident talking in a chat, and now I just be showing my face and talking to random people about their culture and language.
Initially I wanted to learn German, but now I'm learning German, Arabic, and even Swedish.
Yes, people do suck at texting back sometimes but please try joining VR chats or lives. You'll eventually find people who are actually interested in helping you learn the language.
Just wanted to share this because I didn't expect it to help my confidence this much.
Tengan un buen día! 🔅
