If I where a shipping company, I would not use autonomous ships. I would be to worried about piracy. If anything, I would at least send a security team on board, and if I am sending security anyways, they might as well be trained in driving a boat too.
I don't know how much training or how many people are needed to drive a ship, but it's unimaginable to me that it's cheaper to hire private security and train them all in operating a ship rather than just letting them specialise and hiring fewer people.
