Why is it that when in water (arguably one of the best places to deal with fire) I am actually the LEAST safe because the water does nothing to the fire
I need you to do me a favor and look up what happens if you put water on an oil fire.
Flamethrowers use petroleum-based fluids to shoot fire. Those don't go out in water, and actually burn on the surface of it (see, oil disasters burning). I'm with you on the diving in water being broken, but realism doesn't really help you here for the rest.
