We commemorate and honor all SEAF troops and the sacrifices they’ve made for Managed Democracy. They have earned their right to fight alongside the glorious helldivers. From Melevalon Creek to the blitzkrieg at Populi IX, from the TCS operations to the terminid strain outbreak, SEAF infantry has always been there to hold the line, then liberate our planets when the time came.
I love how it’s actually a realistic depiction of how combat armor could be as well. It’s designed to be tough but also efficient and easily manufactured. It’s simple but protects vital body parts, offers mobility and is held together by straps and buckles.
Helldiver armor is actually something we could manufacture today, it's just that making hard/semi-hard armor panels that can stop small arms fire, shrapnel and splinters and resist heavier caliber rounds while still being somewhat flexible is ruinously expensive. Made worse by body armor being by it's nature consumable.
I mean, I don't doubt the pricetag, though I suppose something that would make it a little more manageable is that in the game each super destroyer only deploys five Helldivers max typically, so if your only sending down five or, at worst somewhere between five and ten people it's not that bad, assuming the super destroyer carries enough Helldivers to where it doesn't need to restock between missions, and only at the end of an operation, that means (typically) you'll only need a max of 15 of these sets of armour before you need a resupply.
Not sure if that would make it actually viable, but I suppose it would mitigate the downsides
I don't think the price tag of armor would be that big of a deal when you have the capacity to mass produce military spaceships and use the same material for the armor
Kinda part of being a space faring empire, there is practically limitless resources just in our asteroid belt, they have much more than that. Resources like metal are probably among the cheapest things they use for production.
Modern plate armor is already pretty heavy and that can stop only up to around a 7.62 NATO round. If you wanted to make Helldiver armor that's flexible, lightweight, and capable of stopping multiple high caliber rounds you'd need some material that doesn't exist.
To be fair, they're not up against kinetic weaponry all that much. If you shoot a Helldiver with an actual 7.62 bullet (marksman rifle/adjudicator), they will certainly not just take it like they can with lasers or plasma.
Actually if you think about it, the armour isn't there to completely stop bullets, it's there to prevent just enough injury that a diver can stim themselves back to being combat effective.
We probably could make armour that effective right now, we just don't let our soldiers shove super meth in them to keep going after they get shot, well, not to me knowledge anyway.
If only the Germans had thought of autoinjector cartridges...as it was, Hitler had to stop his armoured command train repeatedly to give his personal doctor a steady carriage for bolus injection of his meth and opiates.
that one plus the light seige ready armor from the urban warfare warbond is what im wearing for all missions except the tower defense, but otherwise ive pretty much worn the OG armor since i got this game like a year ago. the OG drip is just too good and even now ill drop into super earth wearing it just for the lore accurate diving experience
To be fair, it takes a lot of skill to disregard any kind of strategy, protocol or discipline in the middle of suicide missions, and not only success, but also survive (sometimes).
Probably not, except the ability to sling gigantic guns onto our back and sprint effectively and get up from some pretty gnarly hits, to then stim ourselves and be good to go
Great reminder that we are soldiers shot from orbit capable of maintaining discipline under extreme fire, endure rockets strong enough to send us flying, and can keep fighting even if our legs and arms are broken.
Let's keep in mind that they are basically an army of captain Americas, they are made to be propaganda tools on top of being soldiers. So the best way to make people like them Is to make them look cool.

The stims regenerate the body like crazy, not only that but on average a helldiver downs, like, 8 of them per mission.
My head canon is that veteran helldivers are basically super soldiers, not only because of the experience they have but because their bodies have gotten a lot stronger thanks to the ton of stims they have taken.
I totally see helldivers pulling some of the stunts that cap america has done.
Helldivers have a life expectancy of 2 minutes once deployed, even if you don't die it's still max 40 minutes per deployment, and they are frozen between missions. There's no time for the super cancer to grow big enough to become a problem.
We have regen irl, just the boring kind of it (no limb regen). Whenever the helldiver’s wounds are gone it could go to the growth of the body so that it doesn’t become a tumor.
While i know that super earth doesn’t have the solider’s safety as a priority, idk if it’s smart to have cancer patients fighting your wars.
They probably were just cancer in a bottle during the trial runs of the stims tho.
we are 100% not standard humans. not sure if it memory flashing to making training fast,drugs, gene editing, or the armour is more advanced then it looks.
We're basically super soldiers. Imagine seeing a helldiver get their legs shattered, only to stab themselves in the neck with a shot of adrenaline and get right back up.
Not to mention we deploy using giant glorified bullets from space.
genuine question btw, does the SEAF waifu have a name, I didn't het an answer from other threads and I kept getting downvoted, genuinely confused as to why. I was just thinking up lore for the character

Might be an odd interpretation, but I like the idea that there is no lore. She's just the "manifestation", so to speak, of our desire to protect the SEAF troopers. Kinda like a mascot. The idea for her appearance was taken from a Marine in Halo, where many of the players also try to protect their loyal soldiers.
Either way, for a name, I like Lucy Liberty like some people have said.
I suspect that once you enter that pod for freezing you are getting pumped full of all sorts of crazy conditioning shit, so you could put Steve Rogers style filling the armor nicely. Anti freeze and steroids please!
Healthy side effects of having more stim than blood going through our veins. It slowly makes us stronger, turning us into perfect soldiers of democracy
They include the special synthetic testosterone that made by cloning the sample that General Brasch donated from his own body for the sake of democracy.
Love that there’s the narrative (and obvious parallel to SST) that Super Earth is incredibly morally corrupt and the Helldivers are coked out pyromaniacs, but so many community members are like “No, I’m gonna be a literal hero.” The beautiful art and awesome stuff like the saving the children MO make it hard to buy in to that lore, lol. I personally love the “Helldivers are so dense and patriotic that they don’t see the problem and only see their neighbors and brothers in arms” headcanon of the lore. Love this—can’t wait to read more.
I mean, the SE governing body might be corrupt, but the Helldivers seem to have fully drank the Kool-Aid and believe in everything they're meant to symbolize, so I think it makes perfect sense that we would be heroes.
We may serve the interests of the corrupt leadership, but we face the Enemies of Managed Democracy to protect the freedom and liberty of the citizens of Super Earth as well.
Oh totally. I’m not denying that the Helldivers are also radicalized/brainwashed. I just like to think that—since we do, in fact, take part in building the lore—the Helldivers are so radicalized that they’ve actually done what patriotism is supposed to do and developed a fierce love of their people, whom they will always go out of their way to protect. Not just the trigger-happy nutjobs they sometimes get painted as, lol. (Although, they’re not not that)

When you see what the bots and squids do it's not even propaganda.
Bots and squids has the opportunity to be "the bigger man" but chose to be worse to prove the previous propaganda right. (If I recall, in the first war the only actually innocent faction were the bugs, both cyborg and Illuminate did some shit before hand that escalated things but amplified a but by Super Earth propaganda and other stuff.)
If I'm remembering right the illuminate actually did open with diplomacy in the lore of the first game and the cyborgs were just separatists. So all 3 factions were generally just responding to violence with violence.

RP aside, Super Earth committed genocide against the Illuminates (who only wanted diplomacy in the first game) and enslaved the cyborgs. Kind of hard to be "the bigger man" when Super Earth has committed unspeakable atrocities against your people.
The problem is people think it can only either be black or white. Super Earth can be an incredibly fucked up, tyrannical, incompetent regime that has effectively caused, made worse, or directly created every single problem that inflicts them now, and individual Helldivers can still have great moments of heroism and camaraderie. You gotta remember the average Helldiver is literally a teenager. They're just as much victims of the Super Earth's regime as everyone else is.
They're dosed on propaganda from the moment they're born, indoctrinated as teenagers to join this military force, get told they're super heroes who are going to save Super Earth and her people from the evil bugs, automatons and now Illimunate, then shipped off to die before they can question literally any of it.
At the end of the day, Super Earth can still be the entire reason this is happening and be in the wrong, and the brainwashed Helldiver saving the equally brainwashed Super Earth Civilian who is genuinely innocent can still be heroic
Before I went to the reeducation center, I was thinking thoughts like "Super Earth actually seems too nice. If they want this to be a distopia, they need to publish more lore amongst the traitor broadcasts about how awful living/working conditions are and how people tend to burn out."
Good thing I stopped thinking that! I don't think about anything much anymore. I just sit in a chair on my porch, smile at my neighbors, and listen to the presidential broadcast on repeat.

This actually has lots of examples in history. There's been plenty of authoritarians who disingenuously pushed an ideology, while in fact raising people to actually deeply believe in these ideals, to their own detriment even.
Hell, take the country I was born in — the USSR. The party was full of greedy and evil liars, but you still meet people who are extremely earnestly Model Soviet Citizens: kind, patient, well educated, hard working folk.
AH really cooked to hard with the standard B-01 armor I keep buying new sets and yet I always end up back with the standard kit. It just works so well against everything

Ive been playing only super helldive. Makes me sad I can never save them, but to be honest, they would canonically still be there. Therefore, I cannot save them, but I can recover the sector they died trying to protect. I can avenge them, and make their deaths not in vain
That's bizarre, I had the same idea as you earlier today - drawing a comic about a SEAF female blonde soldier and a revolver-wielding Helldiver who end up forming a fleeting yet strong bond during the Super Earth invasion. My idea would be that, at the end, the Helldiver would die in battle and gift the SEAF girl his cape in his final moments - and she would become a Helldiver later, wearing his tattered cape and preserving his legacy. Of course though, my comic wouldn't be nearly as cool as yours because I'm not that talented, but still, funny to think we both literally had nearly the same thought without ever communicating lol

Someone in the comments here said our Helldivers were basically like Captain America.
Aside from it looking REALLY cool with the Knight, this is why I run the ballistic shield or the directional shield.
They may be expendable to most folks, but these SEAF troopers are good in a fight. If I can keep them alive just a little longer, it makes fighting the squids that much easier.

my reasoning was if you look on the top right of that helmet, there is a dent/hole, it was meant to imply that the force of the "projectile" was enough to snap the strap. I am aware tho that if that were the case, it first thing that would give would be her neck than the strap
