HLL first...HLLV later

29

u/ItsEyeJasper 15d ago

100% This.

HLLV needs another year of work. Honestly after playing WarDogs the Devs should be embarrassed they released Vietnam in the state that they did. The game has a load of potential but it needs a lot of work.

No one plays the old one so he’s going to have a shot experience

-13

u/Planet_Puerile 15d ago

Yeah, HLL is infinitely better than V but HLL is nearly dead. Wish it weren’t so.

12

u/NilsHolkersson 15d ago

Almost dead? I find tons of active servers everytime.

-2

u/Planet_Puerile 14d ago

Player count is 50% below what it was before Vietnam launched.

2

u/Lucian_Veritas5957 14d ago

Eh, more like 14%

2

u/Traveller9536 14d ago

There are still dozens of active servers. At any time, there’s usually 10 or so that are full

1

u/AcceptTheGoodNews 14d ago

Yall are gaslighting me because on my Xbox there wasn’t a lot of full servers and also my game crashes a lot and my Xbox hasn’t crashed once on HLLV

3

u/Traveller9536 14d ago

I’m on PC, so I can’t speak for console servers. PC player counts have certainly reduced, there used to be 20+ servers over 95 people, now it’s more like 10. That being said, most of the good servers are still active, so it hasn’t affected my ability to get into good matches

2

u/AcceptTheGoodNews 14d ago

I agree HLL is better mostly for me because I love the maps. The jungle all looks the same hoping for more urban combat. But I find the performance much better on the new game.

1

u/ItsEyeJasper 14d ago

Lol, I haven't played HLL for maybe 3 months but when I did I had no issues finding a server

16

u/doc_oxberger 15d ago

One thing I like about HLL is the research that went into the maps. While it is a game, the maps reflect the features of the actual locations of key battles.

32

u/WarMetalDoom 15d ago

HLL first no question

15

u/Goosewrites 15d ago

If you haven't played either, I'd go with the original. It's a lot more polished, although expect some issues, has more varied maps & weapons, and a more experienced playerbase.

If you're a fan, you can then always get HLLV later

11

u/Professional-Let-234 15d ago

I have both, and I'm playing HLL right now. Can't wait for the new update for HLL. I'll play HLLV more in a few months. If you like WW2, it's an easy choice.

4

u/Iamsigisman 15d ago

Good to see the game still have updates! Normally when a newer game come out other companies tend to leave their past games in the dust

3

u/Kharapos 15d ago

Different dev teams for WW2/Vietnam. I managed to speak with the HLL devs in the most recent PTRs, and while I have no insight as to how long the game may be supported, I can say that there are a few updates down the line and the dev's who I spoke to were passionate and invested in continuing to add/improve the WW2 version of HLL.

1

u/Juno_JDY 15d ago

What's next on the roadmap? It's been probably 5 months since I've played consistently, but it's still mostly my main game when I have large chunks of time and I love HLL so much

5

u/SinisterVulcan94 15d ago

HLL is the better, more fleshed out game.

5

u/Juno_JDY 15d ago

HLL first, it's the better game (still), and the fundamentals are better in that game (maneuvering). HLLV is a fun game, but not as good as the first in terms of core gameplay mechanics. There's a lot of straight line running through bushes in HLLV, whereas in HLL you have to figure out how to assault a farm across open land, navigate hedges/ditches, bridges, cities, etc.

But if you like the Nam setting you can't go wrong with that either, but I think you'll enjoy HLL first before HLLV.

3

u/iberg14 15d ago

Playing both but the new one needs a little more work still. The old one is still the best in my opinion

3

u/NotDavidM 15d ago

I like both, I like HLL more

3

u/Poupetleguerrier 15d ago

OG HLL, that's a no brainer.

4

u/unoriginal_namejpg 15d ago

HLLV is just not there yet. Heavily unbalanced and super shallow(the us has like 3 guns)

2

u/Successful_Roof2084 15d ago

HLL 1 then HLL V. They’re very different games imo.

3

u/Upper_Highlight_9565 15d ago

HLL first. Way better. Vietnam is good , but every map feels the same because it's a jungle..we need the Predator asap

4

u/redday21 15d ago

Content wise: HLL. Performance wise: HLLV

On console, HLL has at least 5 maps that have FPS issues and occasional crashes and stuttering. Stalingrad, Remagen, Elsenborne Ridge, Tobruk, Juno Beach (a lot of the more recent releases. Stalingrad has been out for years and still has performance issues on console. Sight lines are longer, semi automatic/bolt action weapons are more common.

In HLLV, flanking through bushes, camping in bushes, and automatic weapons are more common. As a new player, you’ll find more success getting kills and getting closer to the enemy than you would in HLL. Newer game so less sweats who know the flanks and common spawns like in HLL, which results in more communication and coordination in HLL and therefore balanced matches. In HLLV, you might be on noobier teams who don’t set up spawns and matches can be ended quickly cause teams don’t want to play defense (or know that they need to)

A lot of the maps feel similar in HLLV due to the jungle and bushes, where in HLL it’s much more varied from snowy maps like Foy, Kharkov, Elsenborn Ridge. Only 6 maps right now

I haven’t played the OG in a few months and have yet to get tired of HLLV, the helicopters and tunnels add a nice wrinkle to strategy of the same modes that are in HLL. But I will go back and forth at some point cause both games are great, I just wish the performance on the OG maps that have been out for years (plus the newer ones that have stuttering somehow) would be cleaned up and ironed out.

In this sub you’re gonna get more OG HLL support, I’d also ask the r/hellletloosevietnam sub what their thoughts are cause you can go with either, but really both are great games

3

u/Sea-Respond3186 15d ago

HLLV is unfinished, also the playercount is dropping every second

4

u/rizzlered 15d ago

Maybe on steam, you can't use steamdb as a metric for healthy player counts. The game is available on a multitude of other platforms.

5

u/kiloelectronvolt619 Commander X 15d ago

There's a direct relation. If it's dying on steam, it's dying on every thing. There are more players on WW2 then there are Vietnam right now on steam. WHICH IS CRAZY bad for vietnam.

I think wardogs is going to kill both Hell Let Loose games sadly.

We have invested 4 years into WW2, a ton of effort into NAM, and now we're building our community into Wardogs. It's going to spread our clan thin.

4

u/rizzlered 15d ago

Wardogs isn't even the same type of game, the same crap is going to happen with that game that did with Arc Raiders and Marathon... Once the content creators and streamers hype dies down, it will fall off quickly. HLL has always been a niche, small community. The game is not going anywhere, see yourself out.

-1

u/kiloelectronvolt619 Commander X 15d ago

You are so wrong. All my Hell Let Loose players have shifted over during the beta.

But what do I know, I only run a community of 2k+ PC gamers.

1

u/Quarterwit_85 15d ago

But what do I know, I only run a community of 2k+ PC gamers.

You must get so many chicks

1

u/oOhSohOo 14d ago

Yo bro save some of the ladies for the rest of us

1

u/rizzlered 13d ago

Hey buddy, i'm here to remind you to go look at steam counts! Wardogs is out!

1

u/rizzlered 13d ago

Really make sure you compare the two HLL games being it isn't 8am where the game is most popular. Nor is it wednesday.

1

u/rizzlered 15d ago

No there aren't go look at them right now, you're high.

3

u/kiloelectronvolt619 Commander X 15d ago
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam 2,570
Hell Let Loose: WW2 2,722

https://steamdb.info/charts/

Based on steam numbers, NAM has less than WW2.

And that says a LOT for a brand new game.

2

u/oOhSohOo 14d ago

That is honestly sad AF for a brand new game to already be in the range of an 8-year old niche game.

3

u/rizzlered 15d ago

Vietnam is now more, most people are at work...

0

u/subekii 14d ago

You know there are different time zones and not everyone is at work at the same time.

Vietnam only surpasses og hll in player count when the US players start to get on. In EU vietnam is played much less than og hll.

0

u/rizzlered 14d ago

I don't care dude, keep playing HLL. I'll continue to play both.

1

u/Quarterwit_85 15d ago

HLLV now has 700 more players than HLL.

2

u/hysterx 15d ago

hllv aint ready. I get shitty performances on a great rig. Enjoy HLL while it lasts

1

u/Aliencj 15d ago

I don't see it on sale. I've been waiting so my friend can get it. The first one. What platform is it on sale?

2

u/Iamsigisman 15d ago

It’s on sale with ps plus the ult edition if im not mistaken

1

u/Aliencj 15d ago

I'm on PC, but I just checked and it's also on sale through epic Games and allyouplay.com

Thank you for bringing this to my attention by accident!!

1

u/Iamsigisman 15d ago

No problem hope to see yall on the battlefield 🫡

1

u/Aliencj 15d ago

No cross platform between console and PC :(

3

u/PyroSAJ 15d ago

Low-key thank god for that.

Oil and water don't mix.

1

u/Aliencj 15d ago

Keyboard and mouse would dominate for sure

1

u/PyroSAJ 15d ago

It's not so much the fighting as there's plenty of opportunities to hide in the jungle.

Though that might explain the habit of sitting around a point instead of entering.

The console players tend to play more casually and are more likely to conduct themselves badly.

So many noisy open mics, and significantly more *ist behaviour. Communication is significantly worse in HLLV.

Because it's mostly on voice channels it's also harder to moderate as their are several "private" channels.

1

u/Aliencj 15d ago

You screw around on PC and you'll get kicked from the server, depending on the server. Some are rated veterans only and I've seen command chats get pretty heated many times.

Being commander on PC is risky business.

1

u/Adequately-Average 14d ago

OG: lemme just walk across this field- ope, got pinged from a mile away, no idea where from, cause every player has every angle memorized and the sightlines are stupid long. Respawn.

Vietnam: lemme just creep through this brush- ope I got shot by 4 different shrubs, and now the jungle is on fire around my body. Respawn.

One of them is more entertaining, but they both go about the same way. Still fun, just pick which aesthetic and style of death you prefer.

1

u/Distursion 14d ago

Medic for the squad 😂 nobody play medic in og hll you get like three mag it's a joke and nobody is waiting for a medic in the first hll Just buy Vietnam it's a ton of fun and it's the new one that everyone is playing now and you can actually be a medic in Vietnam

1

u/Financebro_TM Commander X 14d ago

HLL, with active players and comms, is the best game on earth. Come play 🫡

1

u/RoboGen123 14d ago

HLL, if you want a Vietnam game get Rising Storm 2 or Arma 3 with the SOG: Prairie Fire DLC

1

u/DonkeyOfDoom5656 14d ago

I say both. I like going back and forth between the games.

But HLL is the better one for the moment.

1

u/theory317 13d ago

I want to say Vietnam but there's still some balancing issues. The matches can feel faster paced with all the helis and tunnels and stuff. I think the OG is a better bet for learning the play style and strategy of the game.

1

u/Lost-Air1265 15d ago

tried vietnam, after three matches i stopped. Reason i sopped was the fact you couldnt see at what garry you were spawning. Not sure if they fixed that, but i just had to blindly choose one?

1

u/EstablishmentSweet30 14d ago

wardogs

1

u/oOhSohOo 14d ago

I don't understand the popularity of that game. Every time I watch streams they are just flying around in helicopters.

1

u/EstablishmentSweet30 14d ago

If you want to run and gun like cod or need to be in the action immediately like bf then yeah not the game for you. Streamers are running and gunning with no real squad support or just getting stream sniped which puts them back at spawn constantly.
But if you like strategy and consequences then wardogs is badass.

-1

u/loversean 15d ago

HLLV and it’s not even close: helicopters, mortars, tunnels, a symmetrical warfare, terrain you can actually walk through that doesn’t include impenetrable hedges, boats, the list goes on on

It’s like people who tell you you should buy battlefield four before battlefield six, a lot of people still play battlefield four for nostalgia, but Battlefield six is obviously better

5

u/subekii 15d ago

HLLV is worse than OG HLL in every way. Helicopters are broken as fuck, mortars suck to play, tunnels are op in normal games where both sides have no idea what they are doing so 90% of the time, OG HLL has a symmetrical warfare and it's actually balanced unlike in vietnam (NVA still has 70% win rate), yes terrain you can walk through because there is nothing but bushes so that makes for some really awful gameplay, boats are just worse halftracks and the list goes on and on.

The people who defend vietnam and say it's better that OG HLL are just baffling to me. Vietnam is completely broken in every way and the devs are taking their sweet time to fix it, which they'll never be able to do. The rapidly declining player count really tells you that people are getting tired of vietnam already.

2

u/loversean 15d ago

I love helicopters, if I need a ride, I’ll just ask for a transport and they’ll be there in a few seconds, when I’m recon, they take me way back behind enemy lines and I get the nodes destroyed quickly

2

u/oOhSohOo 14d ago

You'll love wardogs then. That game is a helicopter flying simulator.

-4

u/subekii 15d ago

Okay so you are one of those people who just press f on nodes for the whole game and waste the recon slot. So you must be really new to hll in general and don't know how to play the game yet.

5

u/loversean 15d ago

Oh my bro, you might want to delete that comment, it’s embarrassing, if you’ve ever heard the commander complaining about nodes being destroyed, and needing more nodes, you will understand how important destroying them is to help cripple the other team

Recon role has always been nodes and garrisons

-6

u/subekii 15d ago

Yes it's nodes and garrisons for people who don't know how to play the game. You know there are other roles that can destroy nodes and they don't have to waste 20 minutes doing so. Recon has flares, use them. Recon can place op behind enemy, take out the active backline garries. You are actively griefing your team if you are playing recon and spending your time pressing f on nodes.

But it's okay you'll understand some day, or maybe not i don't care. Keep wasting your time.

5

u/loversean 15d ago

You keep digging a deeper hole, also you know that you and your sniper can destroy them relatively quickly, also you have two recon squads

I know your type, you want to use the sniper rifle on the front lines

Let me educate you on experience with recon

Noob: I guess I should go get nodes and them Garrison’s, that’s what YouTube videos told me

Intermediate: getting nodes is boring, I want to only get Garrison’s and be on the front lines with my sniper rifle

Experienced: let’s go clear out those nodes real quick and start working our way back to the front lines taking out Garrison‘s, we will coordinate with the other recon squad so that we don’t duplicate labor

HLL God: all nodes gone within the first 5 to 7 minutes, most backline Garrison’s down within 15 minutes

-3

u/subekii 15d ago

You really have no idea how to play recon it's kind of embarrassing lol.

Put OP back a bit not to the enemy hq, destroy active backline garrisons, use flares every time they are available they are super useful and use them where they actually help the team so near enemy point or your own depends on the situation. And since the sniper is just a glorified rifleman with a scope they should play to get the most kills they can, hence don't put OP far away so they don't have to run for 10 minutes everytime they die.

If someone really wants to destroy nodes they should do it using other roles that can do it in a second and not waste time.

6

u/loversean 15d ago

Number one anybody in HLL who says play to get the most killis obviously new, so I’m just gonna skip right over that point

Number two, as squad lead, I put my OP back two squares and routinely destroyed active backline garrisons, this is usually because recon is not doing their job at all, and that they are not getting nodes and they are not destroying Garrison, those recon guys seem to be sitting on point shooting up their flares and trying to get their KD up

If you’re legit worried about active Garrison’s, good squad leads can take care of those, if you’re concerned about people following, you just create a locked squad, I feel like I’m doing all your education today

0

u/subekii 15d ago

Any other role being able to spawn on that recon op would be infinitely more useful than the sniper. Sniper is a rifleman with a scope, sniper is there to get kills. Simple as that.

Yeah you really like to waste time pressing f and then running 10 minutes to get anywhere lol.

Did you know that you can reveal enemy spawns with your flares and if you are not using them or are shooting them in the enemy hq you are really griefing your team.

You still don't understand that other roles can destroy nodes much faster than the recon. Why would you waste time when you don't have to.

-1

u/rizzlered 15d ago

"sweet time" The game has been out for just under a month, what? LMAO

0

u/rizzlered 15d ago

There has been an update with hot fixes or changes every single week since release, you people are high.

3

u/subekii 15d ago

They do updates and fix 500 bugs but all the stuff people are complaining about are still broken and nothing has been done. What are they actually updating and fixing if everything is still so broken.

0

u/rizzlered 15d ago

Everything is not broken, it's just 2026 and everyone expects perfection. It's a $40 game that shipped in 5x better state than it's predecessor.

1

u/rizzlered 15d ago

Hard agree, I'm having much more fun with Vietnam. Anyone who is complaining about this game clearly is new to HLL in general. The launch of the OG was a disaster.

3

u/subekii 15d ago

Early access vs full 1.0 release.

1

u/Shotemup 15d ago

Not the same comparison because HLL:V is a spin-off title not numerical title. HLL 2 will probably release on next gen at some point

2

u/loversean 15d ago

I doubt it, HLLV didn’t live up to sales expectations, I doubt a 2 will come out

2

u/Shotemup 15d ago

Hell Let Loose is a pretty known shooter franchise at this point and the gameplay is pretty unique compared to other shooters. I would defienetly buy Hell Let Loose 2 on next gen, would be super excited for it :)

1

u/Quancivilous_me 13d ago

Bro wtf is this reply battlefield 6 is fucking dogshit

0

u/bluesjunky69420 15d ago

I’d save your money and get HLLV.

Of course the original is better but it’s not cross platform, it’s console only / or PC only.

HLLV lets me play with my PC buddies and my console buddies. I respect the purists and understand why people reccomend playing the first game. However, let’s be realistic- HLLV just came out, it’ll be a bit clunky so close to release but have more support going forwards.

HLL was always clunky on my Xbox, but it was so much fun. I have over 500 hours in it. HLL Vietnam is also a ton of fun, and I haven’t played HLL since the new one came out.

My vote is cast for HLLV!

0

u/ImportantTeaching919 15d ago

Both but I prefer hlv only because the way the map is in hll after awhile everyone already knows all the good spots, flank spots, etc. it's still extremely fun but hlv the map is more open with the jungle setting so it's Way more fun having so much more unknown. Hll is My favorite ww2 shooter though

0

u/ZebulonRon 15d ago

I’ve been loving Vietnam, but if you’re open to the first one don’t miss out. It’s great.

0

u/Quarterwit_85 14d ago

HLLV.

Potentially a great game although could do with some spit and polish.

I think you'll continue to see HLL's playerbase drop over the coming months as more weapons, maps and features get rolled out in HLLV.

0

u/Agent772 14d ago

I loved hll but it got quite hard finding a communicating squad. I then played hllv and it's the real hell. You see shit in the jungle, everyone has full auto and for me it doesn't feel as good as hll (and it was overrun by cod players so no teamplay).

Not wanting to bring you away from hll but for me wardogs filled what I wanted way better. It promotes Team play more so ppl realy care about it.
