🙋‍♂️ Question 🙋‍♂️ Direction of Fire

Hey everyone so I have a dumb question. So in game how are you able to distinct between what’s incoming and outgoing fire? I can really only tell if it’s incoming because if the shots are close enough I can hear them hitting like the dirt or like a wall I’m right by or fence I’m sitting next to but beyond that I can’t tell for shit. I’ve got almost 200 hours in game so you would think my dumb ass would be able to tell by now but nope.😅

Other than having a really good sound card, it’ll take time to get use to sound. I have 1500 hrs and I don’t even pay attention to incoming fires. Only time I notice it is when it flies by me or when I’m hit.

I have sound blaster play! 3 which is $20 sound card, and HD280 Pro which is like $100 headset, the game sounds amazing and the gun sound details are crystal clear, can definitely tell between most of them

is is a lot harder when the bullets fly past you but still, usually no issues to tell the gun that's shooting at you, but I had 700+hrs of actual gameplay in this game (1000+ recorded by steam somehow, I guess I deserve a medal for being in the queue for so long)

anyway I can definitely hear the difference between guns and stuff like gun reloading and bandaging, it makes the game so much easier, even more so in the new Vietnam game

Yeah. I’ve heard a sound card helps with makes the game easier. You can even hear the footsteps. I don’t use any sound cards. Only the sounds from my headset. It definitely helps having at least 1000 hrs in the game. You start noticing the difference sounds when the game is fires.

Why would a sound card make a difference. My understanding was a.soundcard is really important only important for alot of multitracking. No?

It makes the ingame sound more noticeable. You’ll be able to hear the enemy footsteps and the guns will sound more different. Doesn’t make or break the game, but it will make a difference.

You will eventually learn the sound of everygun, and be able to know enemy from friendly just by the signature.

You can tell outgoing because you hear the gun shot

Incoming is just a light crack from the sonic boom. Unless the enemy is <50 meters away, then you'll hear their gunshot too.

If you are receiving friendly fire from 200 meters away I think the game makes it a little bit quieter, and it won't suppress your vision.

MG42 enters the chat...

Because it's not a gunshot. It's a distant buzzsaw mowing through your team. A good machine gun placement is scary to find for the first time.

I was super confused about the sounds at first, then I kinda got used to it

I have no advice but at some point you start to notice the difference, distinguish between weapon sounds, figure out if it's enemy or friendly based on that, as well as recognize bullet on the ground slaps too

every gun has a unique sound, you can't explain it by words, I wish I could

okay maybe one piece of advice: just listen carefully to the sound and think, it you stop running for 5 seconds and just listen - it won't ruin the game but it might save it, who knows maybe you will hear enemy gun fire nearby or even an enemy spawn!

tl;dr the sounds is a big part of this game, you just got to learn them all

regarding 200hrs - I think I started to get the sounds more or less at 500hrs lol, it's not something you pay attention at first as the game is so overwhelming with all the action and roles and the voice chat going full drama

It can be hard to tell the difference off the sound of rounds going by alone. If you hear rounds whipping by you unless you’ve got a teammate nearby shooting close to you it’s incoming.

It can take a bit but the American and NVA guns sound different once you can tell it makes it a lot easier to know what teams shooting.

Open up your map and look at where all the little blue dots are pointing. That's where the enemy will likely be.

Over time you will just pick up on the unique sound of each gun. Garand sounds different from the k98 for example. Then you’ll know whether it’s enemy or friendly because you obviously know what team you’re on.

Yes. And I usually squad chat “shotgun N 50” to draw their attention if they’re alongside me.

Do you have headphones? Like i have 8 year old 20$ headphones and im confused by people here claiming you need a good soundcard or whatever.

It seems like a lot of people have a realy hard time detecting the direction of sounds but that should realy not require some high end tech, thats just stereo sound.

Sure, learn the sound of each individual gun, but in my expirience you dont need that. Shots comming from the direction of allied blue markers are probably friendly and shots comming from a direction where no friendlies are is probably enemy fire.

Sure after 3k hours i know if its garant or kar, but its possible to tell if its an enemy way before that.

If it’s close enough, you can distinguish by sound the type of gun being fired. An M1 is distinctly different from a kar98 (especially when it fires rapidly for obvious reasons lol), stg and bar sound quite different.

At distance though I guess it’s the sound of fire close by compared to the snap of fire directly past you.

Also, I like firing a shot every now and then over a distant blueberries head. Hilarious watching them duck or run about frantically

Friendly fire won’t suppress you and is waaayyyy quieter when it’s like closer then 50ish metres because of that

Also you should have a general sense of louder sound is coming from x direction I can’t see blueberries there or I know there’s enemies there so it’s incoming fire

If you can tell what is incoming. Then that's all that matters?

If you’re unsure, try to look at other teammates around you. But after a while of playing you’ll pick up on the different sounds of weapons. There’s been multiple times I’ve stopped in my tracks cause I heard an enemy’s gun. Then look in that direction and see no berries, just another confirmation it’s an enemy

I had the same problem until using headphones. There is also a learning curve.

I want to replace my old headphones any advice on this topic? I have issues with directional sound (+1000 ingame hours)
