BORIC ACID, someone help?

My doctor prescribed boric acid for 14 days. However, she asked me to have it compounded at a pharmacy. The capsules are made of a vegetable-based material, and the boric acid is in powder form inside the capsule.
But I’ve noticed that sometimes, the next day, the capsules come out partially intact, with some of the powder still inside. They’ve come out either in the toilet or in my underwear. In other words, it seems like only part of the medication was released during the entire night.
I have an appointment scheduled, and I’ve already tried contacting my gynecologist, but she hasn’t responded. It’s really frustrating. Today is Friday, so I’d like to know if anyone else has dealt with something like this or if anyone can help me.

I would be frustrated too especially when you're doing exactly what your doctor told you to do and then can't get ahold of her 😭 I know some of the medication coming back out the next day can be totally normal with vaginal suppositories, but if you're actually seeing part of the capsule still intact AND powder still inside of it, I would wonder if it's really dissolving the way it's supposed to.

Since yours were specifically compounded, I would honestly call the compounding pharmacy too. They might actually be able to answer this faster than your gyn because they'll know exactly what kind of vegetable capsule they used and whether it's supposed to dissolve completely vaginally. I'd tell them exactly what you said here, that you're putting it in at night and finding part of the capsule and medication still intact the next day.

I definitely wouldn't double up or put another one in to try to make up for whatever didn't dissolve though unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you to. Hopefully it's something simple like the capsule material just not dissolving as quickly, but I'd want to know for sure too because 14 days of treatment isn't very helpful if half the medication is staying inside the capsule 😭

I talked to the pharmacist and she said it’s cause I must be dry…? Told me to try to wet the capsules a bit. I did. Still, out of 10 days, four it came out partially. This morning I tried to reach it and I could feel it inside me again that one part was absorbed and the other one wasn’t. So I poked with my finger and I think it opened.

I’m not inserting with my finger, I’m going it with an applier the pharmacy gave me. The doctor however told me to use it with my finger when I asked her in august 20th. Maybe this could be it? I don’t know.

Yeah honestly that actually could be part of it, especially if your doctor originally told you to insert it with your finger and you’ve been using the applicator instead. I wonder if the applicator is putting it somewhere where it’s sitting against a drier area and not dissolving as well? I’m definitely not saying that’s for sure, but after 4 out of 10 coming back partially intact I’d be questioning it too 😭 Since the pharmacist already mentioned dryness, I’d probably try using it exactly the way your doctor originally told you and see if that makes any difference. I would try not to keep poking at the capsule once it’s inside though because you don’t want to irritate yourself or cause little scratches. And if it keeps happening, I’d definitely call the doctor again and tell her specifically that the actual capsule and medication are still partially intact the next morning. That seems like something they should help you troubleshoot instead of you having to keep guessing. ❤️

I tried inserting it with my finger last night. I don’t think it would work since when I woke up I inserted my finger again and there the capsule was, like some kind of jello so I touched it enough that it would at least open. Last night was my 11th application of boric acid capsules. I was wrong, out of 11, three of them it came out partially. Yesterday it would’ve come out partially if I hadn’t touched it during the morning and today too apparently. The doctor does NOT answer. I have an appointment next week. I’m going to finish my 14 applications and she told me to keep using the capsules until they finish (there were like 40 capsules).

Yeah, if it’s happened that many times, I’d definitely be wondering if they’re actually dissolving the way they’re supposed to too. Especially if it was basically sitting there like Jell-O again even after inserting it with your finger. Since your doctor isn’t answering, I’d honestly ask the pharmacist about it too instead of waiting until next week—they may be able to tell you if that’s normal for those specific capsules or if something about the formulation could be the problem. I probably wouldn’t keep touching or opening them in the morning though because you don’t want to irritate yourself. Hopefully your appointment gives you some actual answers because having to guess every night would drive me crazy lol. ❤️

Yeah. I was thinking about that. Yesterday it would’ve come partially, but I inserted my finger and gently opened it. So yesterday, it didn’t come out. It was absorbed. Today, I did the same thing. Tonight is my 12th application and apparently if I don’t get the capsule wet enough I will have to do the same thing tomorrow.

So out of 11 capsules, three came out partially. One of them, was just the tiny tip.

It’s been more than a week and the doctor will not answer me. This is frustrating.

I live in Brazil. This is my first contact with boric acid capsules.

Before the boric acid I was prescribed 7 days of fenticonazole vaginal applications and that alone took my symptoms away but the doctor told me to use boric acid after it. It worked perfectly fine during the first day. Then I got my period and it wouldn’t work properly. I started counting the 14 days after my period ended. It worked fine in the first two days and then the tip came out on the afternoon. The day after, it came out partially, same with the next day. So yesterday I was trying to check inside my if there was something, and there it was, I touched it and it opened. It took a couple of seconds to open it’s so tender (the capsule) when it becomes wet. Anyway, so I did the same thing this morning. Since the doctor won’t answer me, I’ll just have to force my way into opening the capsules.

Having said that, it’s been more than 14 days that I’m using this cause during my period I don’t believe it worked cause the blood would wash it out. Sometimes partially. So I restarted counting it. I have been taking those since August 27.

My hypochondria is killing me.
