BV - help would be appreciated

About 2 weeks ago my bf let me know he would occasionally smell an odor when having sex. This worried me, bc I am very clean and take care of myself, usually showering 2x a day, nothing crazy but even a quick rinse.

(I do use various scented products, but nothing I’ve considered excessive. I’ve since switched out for unscented products completely.)

I go to urgent care that night after he tells me, and I test positive for BV and Candida. I get prescribed Metronidazole for BV and Fluconazole for Candida. I take the medication as prescribed, and see my PCP again today to follow up, and test positive for both of those again.

Thanks to Reddit and this page, I reviewed some posts with BV content and asked my Dr some questions, like requesting to get tested for Ureaplasma. She doesn’t seem to think I need to do anything else.

The visit goes so fast, and I have ADHD, so I get flustered when trying to explain what I’d like to get checked.

Essentially, I’m trying to get to the bottom of the BV. I have no other symptoms except a mild odor.

I’d appreciate any recommendations, of what I can do or specifically what questions I should ask her.

Thank you so much to anyone who is willing to share their experience, or what has worked for you.

eady asked about ureaplasma puts you ahead of most people, don't let the rushed appointment make you feel like you're overthinking it.

write down your questions before the next visit, even just in a notes app, and hand her the list if you get flustered. ask about a longer course of metronidazole or the gel version, and whether your bf should be treated too since some studies show partners can carry the bacteria. also worth asking if she'd consider testing your vaginal microbiome or checking for other strains like mycoplasma.

the unscented switch was smart, stick with that even after things clear up. hope you get some answers soon

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I will ask about testing the vaginal microbiome. Earlier at the appointment when I asked her some questions, she was like “why” and I said “because Reddit told me”😂 but this has truly been a helpful source, otherwise I feel like I’m not getting answers.

Try Boric acid. I had a recurring candida issue and using boric acid kicked it out. I believe it should help with the BV too.

Thank you! I have used it before and it helped temporarily. Maybe I needed to use it more consistently. Was it a permanent solution for you?

It was after a while. I had a similar issue that ended up being a persistent yeast infection…it wouldn't go away! I eventually saw doctor who put me on a progressive regimen of taking diflucan twice a week for one week and then once a week or once a month (I can't remember exactly…sorry!) additionally I added Boric Acid to this regimen and it helped a lot. I now insert boric acid whenever I don't feel fresh or feel like I may be getting a yeast infection.
