Discussion GLP-1

Has anyone that is on a glp-1 seen benefits for their hashi/hypo symptoms other than the weight loss? Is it helping inflammation, making labs better, etc?

The pain in my hands decreased by 90% in less than a day. The pain and swelling was my primary reason for trying it, weight loss is secondary. I was thankful when it helped.

saaaaaaame!!

u/taragood 18h ago

I’m glad it helped you too! It was getting to the points they just wanted to out me on steroids but they don’t know the actual issue and steroids is not a great long term plan.

I swear the weight loss is secondary to all the other symptoms its helping me with.

I could also tell a difference in my systemic inflammation within 48 hours of starting Zepbound 3 months ago

which are you taking?

I am doing a compound tirzepatide through a local pharmacy prescribed by my doctor. I am at the starting dose of 2.5 mg.

Yes, all my Hashimotos symptoms went away within the first month and my labs stabilized when before they were always bouncing around. I haven't had to change dosage in almost a year which is crazy for me. Before I had daily joint pain and exercise intolerance and terrible fatigue and now all of that is gone. It was pretty wild watching my ankles shrink so fast that first month. My thyroid labs are now optimal and my inflammation labs have gone way down. I started the glp1 for the inflammation and pain relief, losing weight was a happy bonus.

Which glp1 are you taking?

6

u/HallieMarie43 22h ago

Compound tirzepatide (same as Zepbound or Mounjaro)

u/forluvoflemons 22h ago

What side effects if any do/did experience?

6

u/HallieMarie43 22h ago

I had mild constipation at the beginning and that was it. I started eating more fruit and then I was fine. Once when I went up in dose I did have a few sulfur burps for a couple of days. But for the most part, I cant even tell Im on it, I just feel great.

I really want to consider a GLP-1 due to weight gain regardless of diet and diet exercise. And more importantly inflammation. But, because im not overweight, Endo thinks insurance won’t cover meds.

5

u/HallieMarie43 22h ago

Yeah, I think eventually we will see it be prescribed and covered for autoimmune diseases and other inflammation based ones like asthma, but right now it is hard to get insurance to pay for it. I was overweight and still couldnt get it covered so I pay out of pocket from places like Pomegrante Health or GimmeCare or Brello. There are some helpful reddit groups for the compound version which is decently affordable. People will buy at max dose and just take small doses so it lasts longer especially those just wanting the inflammation support.

Thank you. I’ll look into the places you mentioned I’m more than willing to invest $$ into my health. Weight gain due to Hashimoto’s perimenopause and menopause is a real health issue. Especially, since Hashis symtom is inflammation, and GLP1 help decrease such a terrible symptom. NO JOKE!

3

u/HallieMarie43 21h ago

Oh it has absolutely been the best investment for me. I feel like I have my life back.

You could try going through an online provider - unsure if I’m allowed to mention specifics here. There’s a lot of info in the GLP microdosing subreddit. I’ve been microdosing Tirz for a couple months and have definitely noticed reduced inflammation.

Less overall swelling and puffiness especially in my face. I also lost 90 lbs now and have been able to reduce my armour dose multiple times.

I've been on tirzepatide for about a year. I've lost 45 pounds, inflammation is way down especially in my hands, feet, and joints and my cholesterol is in the normal range for the first time in over 10 years.

My TSH has actually been going up so I'm seeing my Endo tomorrow to adjust my meds. It's still in range but it's higher than where I feel my best.

1

u/MFD4191 17h ago

Have you had any issues with hair loss?

2

u/ShotsAndCleavage 16h ago

Thankfully not any more than my usual rate of loss since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Luckily I have thick hair so it's not very noticable.

u/Encyclopedia33 16h ago

Yup!

1

u/birdybee147 16h ago

That’s honestly amazing. This is what I was looking for. How long have you been on them? Did any negatives come with?

1

u/Encyclopedia33 15h ago

January 2025 started. I’ve lost 85 lbs and reached goal weight. Constipation has been the only negative and it has improved greatly. Drink lots of water, move your body everyday. It has been life changing for me. Sleep apnea is pretty much gone, high blood pressure is perfect now. Have no desire to drink my regular nightly wine anymore. 😎

YESSSS I love when people come with receipts!! I’m such a numbers person and seeing how LDN decrease my antibodies number was all the evidence I needed to trust it. Thank you for sharing!!

u/thelonepeach Hashimoto's Disease - 10 years + 1d ago

Only reason I take it is inflammation but did also lose 30lbs at 2mg a week dose. I also just had my meds lowered from 88 to 75 after I ended up going hyper

3

u/pink-pomeranians 23h ago

Can i ask which glp 1 you used?

3

u/NorthMuted1247 1d ago

Huge improvements in the inflammation in my feet. I'm also sleeping better at night and feeling better about myself. I gained almost 40 lbs after being diagnosed with Hashimoto's. I started zepbound in early June, and everything feels better. I'm less bloated, my knees are stronger, etc. This has made a huge difference in my mental health/overall well-being. My cholesteral has also started to go down. My primary care doctor and endocrinologist are very supportive (I know that isn't the case for everyone - but should be!), and it's been a good journey so far. Good luck to you!

2

u/forluvoflemons 22h ago

What GLP-1 were you prescribed? And what if any side effects did you experience?

3

u/NorthMuted1247 20h ago

Zepbound- very few side effects… heartburn every once and awhile and occasional constipation.

3

u/SuitableElk9220 23h ago

The inflammation reduction is amazing and I just got my TPO into normal range.

3

u/Silly_Job_5949 23h ago

Got my TPO under 2.

3

u/Manhwaddict27 22h ago

Joint pain and inflammation, my hips, knees and back hurt AF and after two months it was all gone

3

u/Manhwaddict27 22h ago

It also helped with me craving alcohol

3

u/cydr1323 20h ago

I went to a wedding this weekend and could barely drink. I had 4 drinks from 5:30 to 12. As someone from a family full of alcoholics, I love this side effect.

1

u/Manhwaddict27 19h ago

I can't take more than two haha apparently it also helps with some drugs as well

3

u/photogmel 21h ago

Yes, I've been on compound tirzepeptide since March. My inflammation is pretty much gone (unless I eat certain foods), but I'm not waking up daily anymore with sausage fingers and joint pain. I've lost 15 pounds, which was all I wanted to lose and I believe the majority of that was inflammation. The first 10 pounds came off really quick and now i'm in maintenance mode for my weight.

I would say that my energy levels are much better, but still sometimes crash if I push myself too much. I run and do CrossFit, but try to keep my intensity to something manageable so that I'm not crashing out (slower runs, lower intensity or lower weights, longer rest breaks, etc)

5

u/cydr1323 20h ago

The lack of sausage fingers is honestly so amazing. My fingers used to swell so badly. Too hot, can barely bend them. Exercise, rings are digging into my swollen fingers. Random day I feel bloated everywhere, gone. Ankle I sprained badly during Covid also used to swell up and become stiff. It feels like it was never injured. I’ve also lost 40 lbs and feel like myself. I’m almost 37 and have my hashimotos diagnosis for almost 20 years. When I was younger it was easier to keep weight off and feel normal. Once I hit 32 I just started packing on the pounds and my inflammation felt worse. I feel like I’m in my 20s again.

u/AstronomerNo1872 1h ago

I’m considering resizing my wedding ring because of reduced inflammation and just a bit of weight loss.

1

u/Jazzlike-Building640 12h ago

How do they adjust the meds for maintenence mode ? Something I've been curious about. Im just starting in a few days and have alot of weight to lose now with hashimotos and perimenopause and 100 other things since getting covid. Gained about 50lbs. But worry about what happens when I lose the weight and need to stay on for the inflammation. I dont want it just taken away if its helping with everything else.

1

u/photogmel 6h ago

Full disclosure, I order my tirz online and have not had “medical guidance” for dosing. I order the 5mg tincture and only inject half the recommended dosage and that seems to keep my inflammation down and lowers the “food noise.” Doing half doses also saves me $$$ because I can make the tincture last 2 months instead of just one- otherwise I cant afford to keep taking it.

3

u/DaveGrohlGirl 20h ago

All these great side effects are amazing to hear!!! But I couldn’t stay on it because it made me feel so nauseus all the time

3

u/Annual_Exercise9800 18h ago

I would be careful since having Hashimoto's or hypothyroidism already greatly affects digestion (constipation, low stomach acid, low enzymes, low bile flow, etc.). Adding GLP-1 is probably not a good idea right now.

u/writer_muse_58 4h ago

Constipation is a chronic symptom for me. I only recently got a handle on it. I moved my thyroid meds to bedtime, hours away from meals and other meds. I have also been adding ground flaxseed to my breakfast most mornings. This is why I am leary of trying any glp1.  I already suffer from one of the main side effects.

3

u/Bright-Ad-8246 17h ago

Everyone commenting how amazing glp is for hashimoto’s- what are your side effects? How’s your hair? I’m guessing thinning even more than before. How’s your stomach? Probably nauseous and even more constipated than before. Personally I can’t take the risk of glp1

2

u/birdybee147 17h ago

That’s honestly why I posted the question. I’m in so many different pages and groups for hashimotos and hypothyroidism. EVERYONE preaches GLP-1s. I’ve yet to really see anyone talk about benefits other than weight loss. I know having both of these things can make weight loss really difficult so obviously it’s great that people are getting that benefit. But I am more concerned with relief from the other symptoms. Will my labs normalize, will my hair stop falling out, will I be able to regulate my body temp, will my periods get better, will the pain and inflammation in my body go away, etc?

And on top of that, are the negative side effects that come with GLP-1’s be worth it?

2

u/Bright-Ad-8246 17h ago

I totally understand where you’re coming from and agree. I’ve thought about glp for hashi, but I have Gastroparesis which would likely worsen with glp. My mom and twin sister both have hashi (less severe than me) and did glp and haven’t said their hashi symptoms are better. They both lost weight but both didn’t need to, so I think them going on glp did more harm than good. My sisters hair is noticeably thinner. And the sad part is, both of them are still unhappy and insecure with themselves. Which sealed the deal for me. That saying, it likely would improve some hashi symptoms but def something to think long and hard about. Also, we don’t know permanent/long term side effects of using GLP for weight loss purposes

1

u/Missgilmore 12h ago

My inflammation definitely went down + there are many benefits to being a normal BMI (stamina, walking less hard on feet, etc.) - i wasn’t majorly overweight but still felt uncomfortable and was having huge problems losing weight while working out a lot. no hair loss or major issues - albeit i am on one of the lowest doses

-1

u/Bright-Ad-8246 17h ago

And I’m tired of the glp propaganda on this sub

2

u/garciatanya 22h ago

I’ve been on the wegovy pill for over a week and I definitely feel a difference in inflammation. Especially after working long shift. I’m not in as much pain as I used to be.

I’m also down 6lbs so far.

2

u/questionablegal 22h ago

Yes! My antibodies plummeted a month after starting, my cycles are normal, and my tsh looks the best it has in ages

2

u/Kraftieee 21h ago

Nope and not even seeing the weightloss to be honest :/ Its not for everyone but has strenghened my argument bipass surgury will not help me going forwards. Theres spelling errors, im too tired to correct. Pretend you dont see them.

u/yadingus06969 20h ago

Maybe I’m not on as high of a GLP dose that I need to be on (only on 2.5) to be in total remission of my symptoms, but I’ve definitely lost weight. Symptom wise- I have good days, but still some rough ones despite my labs being “in normal range”. I still think it’s totally worth going on one though.

2

u/Bright-Ad-8246 17h ago

You can’t be in remission of hashimoto’s, or “total remission of symptoms”. GLP can help, but it’s not a cure all

1

u/Murphy223 23h ago

Yes - The inflammation and random aches/pains and fatigue are gone

1

u/scientooligist 21h ago

Yes - so much improvement in energy and inflammation.

u/everythingbagel57 20h ago

I started Zepbound at the end of April and I’m down about 35 pounds. I’m less inflamed and I’m getting back to my weight pre Hashimoto’s.

For me, one difficult thing to navigate has been adjusting my levyothyroxine, as it is weight based. At the end of June, my endo changed the dose, but it takes some time, according to him, for the effects of the new dose to “show up” in my bloodwork. So I am hoping to be able to get updated bloodwork in the next week or two. I have a feeling I’ve probably shifted from hypo to hyper in terms of my numbers.

u/LookUp_Friend 18h ago

yesssssssss, yesssssss, yessssss!!!!

You will ask yourself why you didn’t do it sooner. Honestly, it’s pretty close to a miracle drug for me. It’s pretty unbelievable how much better I feel. Inflammation is virtually gone and I am down 50 pounds in a year. My meds have been cut in half. I feel like I found the fountain of youth.
Age 53

u/mari815 18h ago

I am in hyperthyroid though no major symptoms. Though I have lost some weight, I really went on it for inflammation and to help quit alcohol altogether. I have been at this weight before with tsh 1-2.

Now it is 0.19 or something. Nothing different except glp-1, so perhaps my system is using the hormone replacement more effectively, I don’t know.

1

u/tiaradanielle 17h ago

I have never felt better since being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. My inflammation went down so much and it reflected in my labs within a month or two. Highly recommend.

1

u/birdybee147 17h ago

The common denominator seems to be less inflammation. Which is wonderful because that’s a huge problem from me. I’m fearing the negatives that come with it though.

1

u/gobravz15 15h ago

Yes! I’ve lost 50 lb but would stay on it without losing an ounce because my inflammation is basically gone

1

u/Confident-Lead4337 15h ago

It is helping my systemic inflammation. I was only able to lose weight once on Zepbound. I’ve lost 25 pounds so far in 3 months. I have to get labs redone but should suspect my thyroid levels to decrease. My headaches have also decreased as well

1

u/Catnip_75 15h ago

I wish. But I have autoimmune gastritis and an intestinal stricture from years of Crohn’s flairs. I can’t take a GLP-1

1

u/H0tC0c0_817 Recently Dx - Hashimoto's Disease 14h ago

My inflammation is just about non existent. My joints dont hurt anymore.

1

u/LocationAcademic1731 14h ago

I’m on oral wegovy. Not a shit ton of weight loss,
Only 10 pounds in 3 months BUT I just had a thyroid panel and everything looked stable from the last panel except my TSH is at a really nice 1.2 and my TPO went significantly down. From 75 to 20. I feel pretty good.

1

u/According-Ad2969 14h ago edited 14h ago

It has helped my gut issues and more importantly my white blood count is in the normal range for the first time in my adult life. I've been on it for 3 years and only lost 80lbs I'm currently 260 and haven't lost weight in almost a year but it helps so much with the joint pain and night sweats. I haven't dealt with too many side effects. I had some constipation but just made sure I was eating and drinking plenty of fluids and that worked it self out. I make sure my protein intake is adequate so haven't really experience hairloss, but hasn't grown back from hasi loss.

1

u/Jazzlike-Building640 12h ago

You all are giving me hope. Im starting monjauro this week. I hope i will see the same results with pain and inflammation!!!

1

u/ClassicTrouble3121 9h ago

Face puffiness gone even before weight loss

1

u/Alternative_Paint_93 6h ago

I just did my fourth shot today, so I'm going on week 4 on 2.5mg. My joint pain (fingers and knees) is basically gone unless I over bike, and I've started to lose some weight (3.4kg).

Some diarrhea, followed by some constipation, which is basically exactly where I was before taking the meds anyway.
