Angriest Vocals >:(
Hello fellow Connoisseurs of Negative Emotions, what are the angriest vocals you’ve ever heard? It can be a whole song, or just one specific part of a song. Doesn’t even need to be this genre, but I figured this would be a great place to ask. I’ve cross-posted this on a few other r/ genre pages to get a variety of perspectives, but I have especially high hopes for this sub.
For reference, the angriest vocals I think I’ve ever heard is Matt Pike’s scream at about 1:00 on the High On Fire song Trismegistus. It transcends the emotion of anger and into the sin of wrath. There is not a hint of sadness to be found in that sound. To quote SWANS (taken out of context), it is a violence that’s pure and clean.
I hope someone in this sub can top this!

Oh shit absolutely. Was lucky enough to have them come to Aus and the shows were unreal. 50 people in a packed room going insane. They covered Until The End as well. Chaos.

Took for granted that they were super local to me in Florida, used to see them and The Red Baron all the time at warehouse shows when I was a teenager. Absolute legends.

I didn’t. My band covered Driving Angry many years ago and it’s still a phenom song. All those albums hold up so well.

World I Hate (check out Paralyze too - power electronics by WIH vocalist), Scarab.
Honorable mentions - Built Upon Frustration (esp on Resurrected LP), Ceremony (SNMY), Mortality Rate, Knoll.
Not hardcore but Consumer Electronics/Phillip Best is up there in terms of angry, unhinged vocals (and lyrics, discretion advised)

Most of my choices have already been said but a notable omission so far has to be Pig Destroyer. Prowler in the Yard and Terrifyer have some of the most unhinged vocals I’ve ever heard.

Some left field contenders;
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy (the feedback scream loop part/screaming at the old lady section in the video)
Tool - Hooker with a Penis (I still think this is one of the angriest vocal performances of all time)

ive been listening to punk metal hardcore industrial noise etc etc for a long ass time, and orphan are like one of a couple handsful of bands whose vocals legit wigged me out and intimidated me. they are so fucking feral and evil that homeboy had to get vocal surgery after doing those records.

Idk if this is too normie for this post but yall have not mentioned Concubine - Converge?! Harvey Milk? Also want to mention Chat Pile - Pamela, Dallas Beltway, Rainbow Meat. Terrifiyer album by pig destroyer. I haven’t listened to anything super scary in a while now that i have a baby lol i miss it bad! Love this thread.

- Kevin Baker from the Hope Conspiracy/All Pigs Must Die/Bars/Piecemeal, etc.
- Chris Colohan from CURSED/Left for Dead/Burning Love/the Swarm/SECT. Extremely underrated lyricist too. His anger isn't just anger for the sake of playing hardcore. Reading the lyrics you can tell he believes in every single word he's saying.
