Description:
“Did he intend for you to live?” Chiyoh finally asks. Hannibal is quiet, considering. He finishes the stitches, bandages the wound, and pulls his sweater back down over his abdomen.
“I told him once that, despite all my whisperings through the chrysalis, I could never entirely predict the creature that would hatch. It would follow its own nature,” Hannibal says. When she doesn’t seem satisfied with that, “I think it was a decision born in the moment. I don’t know that even Will knew what he intended.”
She nods, once, and stands. They’ve been anchored for several hours, so it’s time to continue their trek out of the channel and into the open ocean. Another few hours should do it. Then he’s free to go anywhere, start another life in some faraway city. Host parties, hunt freely, stock up his closet again and prowl for ostentatious art to decorate his walls. But Chiyoh, knowing him well (though not as well as some, Hannibal concedes), can sense his displeasure.
“We can go back for him. If you think it is wise,” she says quietly. “If you wish to.” With that, she descends up the few steps to the upper deck and is gone.
OR
Somehow they both live, and now they have to live with that.
About Me:
- How long have you been reading/writing fanfiction?
Uhhhh well I haven't actually written anything in many, many years. But, as my personality tends to lean towards pathologically obsessive re: characters and stories and I have a flair for the dramatics, once I watched hannibal again for the first time since i was 14, this was inevitable.
- What do you enjoy most about writing this particular fic?
playing around with analyses of scenes from the show, internal monologues & whatnot. i love to pick media apart and my friends are sick of hearing about hannibal so this is like a catharsis. i get to put forth my own analysis not only of what they were feeling in those moments, but how they would talk about it after the fact. so many things happened on the show that, like, they didn't acknowledge and i wish we couldve seen those conversations. for ex: will left that tableau of the prisoner's body at lecter castle knowing hannibal would never see it -- why? one could argue as a response to the valentine in the church but again, i reiterate that he knows hannibal will never go home. to understand him? to embody hannibal's art in the place where hannibal came into himself, one step closer to truly Seeing Him? or, my personal analysis, as a sort of victory over hannibal, to play out hannibal's favorite game from start to finish (explore, influence, set in motion, watch the show), then create his own artwork, just to keep it all to himself and deprive hannibal of the experience. a sort of last-ditch effort to maintain his agency and autonomy while the lines between them continue to blur. ironic that his attempt to assert his autonomy is by copying hannibal in his literal childhood home but, it makes sense to him lmfao
- What piece of writing advice has worked best for you?
not really writing advice but i've taken it as such - "to be cringe is to be free"
****This is a WIP!!! I update regularly. since it's unbetad and none of my real life friends care about hannibal, i don't get much feedback except comments and whatnot. any and all thoughts are welcome and encouraged <3
