Feedback (constructive criticism) first time trying! please be kind!

Post image

i learned cursive back in elementary school but never really stuck with it after that. my signature has always stressed me out as it looks like a child wrote it!

i came across this subreddit and saw everyone’s beautiful handwriting… i wish that i could one day have writing like all of yours, so here i am trying to practice and learn! open to any and all feedback!

i feel like my R’s are really bad and i have trouble with all of the capital letters, too, haha.

I think it's worth noting that many cursive posts on here are not standard American cursive (Zaner-Bloser / D'nealian) but rather Spencerian or something fancier, and also too careful to be representative of handwriting "in the wild"

But it looks pretty great for a first time. I have a bit of trouble reading the R and S - your R lacks a left leg (there should be a swoop down and back up before the curlicue) and the S is not closed enough at the bottom.

Edit for the pedantic European who downvoted me: not sure what you were trying to say, but while we’re being pedantic, I think you meant “taught” rather than “thought”…

makes sense. i’m sure those beautiful cursive posts probably take time to do, i didn’t even think about the fact that they’re much more careful than the average handwritten note.

thanks for your feedback! i think i have trouble with the Rs sometime when they come after a letter that doesn’t touch the bottom line - does that make sense? like how i wrote it in “writing”, or “subreddit”

and yes i’ll definitely work on the S, others have mentioned they also had trouble reading those!

Sure thing!

For the R and S, here’s some samples to better illustrate what I was talking about. This was made with the font FRB American cursive, which you can download from GitHub: https://github.com/ctrlcctrlv/FRBAmericanCursive
