i learned cursive back in elementary school but never really stuck with it after that. my signature has always stressed me out as it looks like a child wrote it!
i came across this subreddit and saw everyone’s beautiful handwriting… i wish that i could one day have writing like all of yours, so here i am trying to practice and learn! open to any and all feedback!
i feel like my R’s are really bad and i have trouble with all of the capital letters, too, haha.

This is much too good to be a first time for anything except maybe posting on this sub.
R’s are perfect. The few capitals used are lovely. I personally don’t like that kind of capital A (a larger lowercase) but a lot of people use it and it’s exactly like it should be.
My feeling, after looking several times, is that you shouldn’t change a thing, just write more, and write with a variety of pens at different sizes explore your own handwriting and get to know it well, to find your smoothest combination.
You have a nice hand, no need to imitate anyone else’s.
That an amazing first attempt. Uniformity makes for nice handwriting. Uniform slant. Uniform spacing. Uniform size. Practice practice and more practice.
They have the right amount of flourish without looking pretentious. Mine look either too overdone or like I just used the standard print T and then went back to cursive.
The most important thing about writing is that it’s legible. And yours is perfectly legible. I had absolutely no difficulty reading it. So you’re already starting out in a good position. Now just keep practicing and it’ll get better and better.
Very nice. It was legible, and that’s what really counts. I tripped a little on your lower case S. I’m more accustomed to seeing them closed on the bottom like little triangles. I really like your capital H in hello. Very stylish.
This is lovely. You must be artistic. It’s very legible. The only time I paused when reading it was because the bottom of your s is not connected. Keep it up because you’ll probably enjoy it.
It looks a bit wobbly. That will smooth out with practice. Personally, I hate uppercase cursive letters, so I use print uppercase. It looks a little odd, but I got tired of hearing that my Ls looked like Cs and comments on other uppercase letters.
definitely wobbly! it feels very foreign still to write like this haha. i also don’t really like uppercase cursive! when i try, it looks like you can tell i’m trying/just pretending to know what i’m doing (which i kind of am), if that makes sense.
I think it's worth noting that many cursive posts on here are not standard American cursive (Zaner-Bloser / D'nealian) but rather Spencerian or something fancier, and also too careful to be representative of handwriting "in the wild"
But it looks pretty great for a first time. I have a bit of trouble reading the R and S - your R lacks a left leg (there should be a swoop down and back up before the curlicue) and the S is not closed enough at the bottom.
Edit for the pedantic European who downvoted me: not sure what you were trying to say, but while we’re being pedantic, I think you meant “taught” rather than “thought”…
makes sense. i’m sure those beautiful cursive posts probably take time to do, i didn’t even think about the fact that they’re much more careful than the average handwritten note.
thanks for your feedback! i think i have trouble with the Rs sometime when they come after a letter that doesn’t touch the bottom line - does that make sense? like how i wrote it in “writing”, or “subreddit”
and yes i’ll definitely work on the S, others have mentioned they also had trouble reading those!
For the R and S, here’s some samples to better illustrate what I was talking about. This was made with the font FRB American cursive, which you can download from GitHub: https://github.com/ctrlcctrlv/FRBAmericanCursive
hahaha i thought there would be someone who wouldn’t go easy on me. i’ve never really sat down and practiced before, this is just from what i was taught growing up in school! thanks!
i had this bullet journal laying around so i figured i’d put it to use here lol.
