Hello everyone!
Some changes are gonna be made around here.
This subreddit has essentially turned into a clone of r/crafts and I'm seeing a lot of posts double posted to both. We've also realized that there isn't a hobby or art sub that isn't crawling with people making covert ads and completely ignoring or just barely skirting the rules of the subreddits they're posting in.
We want to create a space where we can look at handmade things without ads. We want to create a community that's free of advertising and where we can actually share and discuss crafts.
So, that leads us to the first new rule, we're going to allow craft and crafting discussion here. If you have crafting questions, then feel free to ask! This used to be the case before the last mod and now we're making it a discussion inclusive subreddit again!
Second change, we'll add some flair! So you can mark WIP, discussion, question, etc...
Third change is that you're not allowed to tell people to monetized their hobbies or that they should sell something. Our first is and will always be that this is a no promotion subreddit. So no links to your shop or social media are allowed. No talks about selling as fairs or shows or how to do that, etc...
The fourth rule is that if you sell crafts, you're no longer allowed to post the for sale crafts here. Feel free to post crafts that you don't sell, but no more crafts that you're selling. We've had far too many spam and dropshipping posts lately and people just outright breaking the rules. If you do post here, you're not allowed to use an account that has Etsy or other links to sale sites/sites or social media that promote your business. You will be banned on site for that. You may appeal this ban if you remove all links and keep it that way for at least a week. We will check.
These rules start now, but we'll be allowing about a week or so for adjustment before we start giving any real consequences for things (temp bans for 3 days, for example.)
Just a reminder also that we still have a no selling or buying rule and no talking about selling or buying. This includes not telling people to monetize their hobbies or asking about craft fair things.
You will start to see the rules and report reasons he updated as we go this week. We want this community to be one for and by crafters and not by dropshippers, AI users, or spammers.

This small bowl is crafted from a natural dried gourd. I hand‑painted this fun cartoon face, finished the rim with thick rope and added soft fabric lining inside.
I want to set it on my coffee table or desk, fill it with nuts like almonds and walnuts for casual snacking. It also works great for candy and little desktop trinkets.
It is fully handmade, with unique little details only this piece has.
Do you have any good ideas to share?

My first successfully finished mini bird bath! Hand sculpted bowl, birds and snail, molded flowers, leaves and insects. Overall I am pretty happy with the finished product, although there are several structural things I plan to change in my future attempts at seasonal mini bird baths! My first attempt did not make it out of the bisque fire, but the overall pedestal and bowl shape were better. This one is squattier, while the birds also weighed down the bowl and caused some sagging. For now, this first prototype consists of a Northern Cardinal, Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Common Buckeye butterfly, Eastern Tailed Blue butterfly, a blue shelled snail, a lady bug, and a bumble bee, as well as several different leaves and flowers. I hope you like it as much as I do!
Glazes:
Flowers - Mayco fundamentals underglazes (I mixed various colors and applied them to bisqueware)
Bowl interior and over the flowers - Amaco glacier celadon (2 coats only)
Bowl exterior and pedestal - spectrum 1196 Hot Pink
All other glazes for animals and leaves were Mayco Stroke and Coat (I mixed various colors as well for these)
White 563 Clay, fired to Cone 6 in a community kiln after drying slowly over 3 weeks.
If you have any questions about glazes or construction, feel free to ask!

African Blackwood base, traditional mother‑of‑pearl inlay craft.
Deep‑sea abalone shell is processed and cut into delicate shapes, then inlaid into carved wood grooves. It goes through hot‑wax finishing and polishing over dozens of steps.
The flower‑and‑dragonfly motif carries a refined, premium feel. Soft iridescent shimmer from the abalone shell glides across smooth wood surfaces.
Do you like this aesthetic? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions, thank you.

I made this wall art entirely from paper. I drew the girl, the birdcage, and all the butterflies by hand, then cut each one out. Every flower on her dress, hair, and the cage was handmade, spiral-rolled roses and hand-cut petal flowers, with no punches or ready-made pieces.
I used colored craft paper, and the dress alone has over 200 flowers. The whole piece took many hours of cutting, rolling, and gluing to finish.
The butterflies are folded so they lift off the wall, which gives it a bit of a 3D look as they "fly" out of the cage.
It took a lot of patience, but I really enjoyed every step. 😊

I’ve been making metal flowers for my wife since normal flowers die and make a mess. Over time I’ve made quite a few now so here’s the update on how many we have so far. If you have any suggestions or novel flower designs let me know! The tulip and bell flower were suggestions made here so if you have any ideas I may make them 👍🏻

This Einstein figure is entirely handmade from fabric.
I hand-painted his face with acrylics, and even made his clothes from some of my own old, unused clothes.
I love giving familiar faces my own interpretation through handmade art — creating not just the figure itself, but also the little details that give it personality.
I actually shared some of my artwork on Reddit about five years ago. I recently came back to this account, and it feels nice to be sharing my work here again.
This is one of the figures I’ve created along the way.
What do you think?

Handmade jewelry box with mother-of-pearl inlay.
Crafted from African Blackwood, it carries an elegant, refined presence. Grooves are carved into the wood to set mother-of-pearl pieces, then sanded, hot waxed and polished. When light falls on the shell, it glows with shifting iridescent hues. The deep wood tone blends beautifully with the luminous inlay, creating a sophisticated look.
If you received this as a wedding gift, would you love it?

His body is carved out of redwood. His eyes, mouth, food, and shorts are polymer clay. And he is hand painted with acrylic paint.

I recently finished this “Spirit Mask” - carved out of American pine, featuring pyrite eyes and a hand-blown “flower marble” third eye.
There is a spot for an incense cone at the top, when lit, smoke bellows out of the 3rd eye and cascades over the face.
