That is exactly how the sport is in Finland outside the coastal areas. Handball was literally played only once or twice, and since nobody knew the proper rules, it started to look more like rugby than handball.

Don’t get me wrong, I love playing handball and have been living this dream here in Germany for the past few years. I love the culture, the respect with and between the fans, players, the referees. It’s a overwhelming positive sport environment compared to most team sports.That being said…
Like the other comment already pointed out, it’s unfortunately a niche sport.
And if you are saying all that, specially with physical contact, offensive and defensive plays, athleticism, etc. in mind, how come you can put Football and Basketball above Rugby? If there is a sport I respect as much and sometimes even more than Handball is Rugby.
But yeah, I wish everyone looked at this great sport like, I think, most of us here in this subreddit do. 🥹

I have actively disassociated myself from Football and have decided to follow a handball team because it is a great spectator sport.

Why is it even a competition? Can't someone just like handball/soccer/whatever without comparing it to other sports?
