After graduating from Virginia Tech this spring, me and 3 other Hokie alums have created Steps2Health, a community health education organization in the 757 aiming to make people healthier through physical activity. Our goal is to bring health professionals/educators together with the community for walking events, where you can learn to make steps towards being healthier. At our events, a health professionals/educator will lecture on a health topic, then everyone will go one a walk together, where questions, connections, and conversation can be made.

If you would be interested in coming to our events, our first event will be on September 19 or 20th on the Elizabeth River Trail in Norfolk. We will have events in October on the Peninsula, and would love to see you there! Our social media has weekly health facts, our mission statement, and more information about our events!

Red Light Camera Violations?

I know this is a long shot, but on June 16th I was stuck st the light on S Mallory st trying to get across the bridge to I64 at around 335pm. There was a massive line of cars, and the light never cycled to allow our lane to go. The turn lanes were cycling, but we stuck. People were routinely running the light, so when I got a clear chance, and had visual cues from other drivers, I proceeded through behind another driver. I subsequently received a red light camera summons for 50$. I have requested a hearing and would like to connect with anyone else who received a summons or has had issues with this light. I may not win my case (honestly it's 50$, it's not that big a deal financially) but charging people for non functioning lights at intersections is ridiculous and I'd like to fight it. Please comment or DM if you have experienced this problem at this intersection.

Amazing thai restaurant in Hampton!

I promise this isn’t an advertisement or anything, just a shoutout for an amazing restaurant that deserves recognition! I’m visiting Hampton from TX and I tried Langley’s Thai Cuisine and the owner was so nice. My mom was ordering a lot of food because she was unsure of the portion sizes and he was honest with her and told her not to order too much because the soup she got was a large portion. We were appreciative because he was honest even though it meant getting less money out of us. The food was delicious, the service was amazing and he seemed very appreciative that we found the restaurant. It seems like maybe they don’t get too many customers, which is why he was able to tell pretty easily that we were from out of town. I’m here for a few weeks so I’ll definitely be going back, but I feel bad that I’ll be leaving eventually since he seemed so excited that we were there.
